A few days ago my church had a candle making class. It was so fun!!! I loved it. We made them out of soy wax because it is better than the regular stuff. (Which, by the way, is called paraffin.) The lady running the class explained that paraffin is made from petroleum so it emits harmfull vapors and needs to be mixed with chemicals to be mixed with fragrances. On the other hand, soy candles are made from soybeans, therefore no harmful vapors and they smell much better because they don't have to cover up the chemical smell. Speaking of smells those candles smell SOOOO GOOD!
We started by picking out a container for our candles. Then the lady explained that since soy candles are made from soybeans, they burn at a lower temperature, so you can scoop some melted wax up and rub it on your hands like lotion! And soy wax won't instantly dry when it touches your hands like the other stuff does. But the flame is just as hot so please, don't touch! The candles were beautiful when they were done. And as I said before, THEY SMELLED GREAT!!! If your looking for a new hobby or are making Christmas presents, try making candles! |
