Sep. 26, 2006 - Christmas cards: cast your vote! |
In my last post, I invited you to vote on our family Christmas cards this year. If you missed that post, you can read it here.
Before you view the options, please keep in mind that I kept them simple. (I just don't have it in me to tackle embossing powder with preschoolers. Or little eyelets, for that matter. Though I'm sure my son would have been mighty excited about the hammer I use for pounding those in.)
For our 2006 Christmas-card-making-venture, here's what we (me with my two-year old and four-year old) came up with:
#1 (This one I colored)
#2 (The Merry Christmas is on the inside)
#3 (Obviously very similar to #1, just with deckled edge scissors on the red paper, and the Merry Christmas and snowman have changed places. And it was colored by my daughter).
#4 (Merry Christmas is on the inside)
#5 (I tried to limit the coloring pencils to the greens and reds, but my son got ahold of the orange pencil for this card! :))
Okay, cast your vote for card #1, #2, #3, #4 or #5. I'll give it one week, tally up the votes and proceed! :)
Have a wonderful day!
~Stacy

| Is #3! But I like green :) And I'm thinking that if you eliminate the ribbon, it'll be one less step... |

| and you've inspired me! by the way, I like #4 because it makes Ella's handiwork the focal point, with the "important message" being the focal point inside. They all looked great! have fun! - Lisa |

| Hi Stacy...Such cute ideas for Christmas cards! I vote for the simplicity of #1 or #3, especially with your young artists "assisting". ;-) I enjoy making cards as well and have gathered a small arsenal of supplies over the years. I know you wanted to keep it simple...but another fun look that we have used would be to take a liquid glue stick and "color in" the snowman with glue...then a light sprinkling of fine clear (crystal) glitter really sets him off and makes him look like snow. It may be more "mess" than you want to deal with, however, the method I've used with young kids works fairly well: Have Mom or older child color in snowman with glue and then transfer card to a large styrofoam or paper plate. Let youngest shake glitter (you can purchase it in containers with shaker tops) onto the prepared snowman/plate and gently tap card onto plate so all the excess glitter stays in the plate (extra can be collected and used again) This is fairly painless and adds another dimension and sparkle to Mr Snowman! You could even use black glitter for his top hat. Ok...so I'm getting carried away...you wanted to keep it simple! LOL Either way, your design is cute and you are creating memories for your babies. Good Job Mom! |

| They are all cute.....keep the kid's artwork in which ever one you choose, VERY cute! I like the horizontal cards and the ribbon, any ribbon, but that's just me. |

| Hi Stacy! They are all cute, but I think I like #4 the best. Great job Ella! By the way, I tried to e-mail you last week but I guess I do not have your current e-mail address. I wanted to tell you that we received our referral for a beautiful baby girl born 9/8/06. We are off to Hannah's Hope Guatemala THIS Thursday!! Blessings, Amy Crawford |

I have a hard time picking favorites, but I think my vote would go to # 2 if I had to pick only one. My first choice would be to make several of each- they are all nice, and then I wouldn't have to pick!
This inspires me. As soon as I'm done writing thank-you cards to all the people who have been bringing us meals and help I should get started on Christmas cards. I usually make them too, but we simplified and only send them to family and very close friends; everyone else gets the email newsletter. Last year we took pictures of the kids contorted to spell out the letters J-O-Y; it was cute but a bit labor intensive. I guess that's why we start early!
Bless you, and thanks so much for your prayers and encouragement!

They are all very cute! But #3 gets my vote.
By the way...did it really take Ella 1/2 a year to color #4 (I noticed that she aged 1/2 a year between #3 and #4) ...there are child labor laws against that! =) |

Wow. I'm loving all these votes and comments... I didn't even realize I had 12 faithful readers, let alone COMMENTERS! THANKS!
Oh, Michelle... aren't you so funny!? HA HA HA. At some point I realized (apparently b/w cards 3 and 4) that by the time everyone got these, Ella would already be 5. But then, she's not 5 when we're making them... but... closer to 5 than 4. So I wrote 4 1/2 on one. And then decided, "That's dumb. She's 4 now." Sheesh. ;)

So cute! All of them are.

These all look great! I, too, love to make cards and have found less and less time to spend on them. I'm also planning on making our Christmas cards this year... I need to get moving on that! Ella did a very nice coloring job- I am impressed! My boys' favorite colors are brown and green and maybe black and their favorite coloring style is "leave no blank paper showing." Have fun! Oh and my vote is #4!
with love,
