Jan. 8, 2006 - A Restful Sunday
Eariler this week Ray made some suggestions for making our Sundays more restful and less stressful for me and the rest of the family. This week we implemented those suggestions for the first time.
Yesterday, I finished all our laundry and cooked most of today's dinner and even ironed the church clothes. The children did their chores and everyone had a bath. I even bought groceries, cut up fruit for today's breakfast and prepared last night's supper by 6:35 pm. By dark, all my work was done. I was able to take my own bath and relax without stressing out over today.
This morning we had a fresh fruit breakfast, individual quiet time, a SS lesson at home, and dressed everyone...and I still had time to devil the eggs and pop the crockpot (already filled yesterday with chicken and veggies and refrigerated) onto cook. We left for church early and I felt rested and relaxed and not stressed at all.
This afternoon when we returned home, all I had to do was heat the veggie, pop biscuits in the oven, and heat the rice in the microwave. I didn't feel rushed to get a meal on the table. And that was so wonderful! Such a freeing feeling!
This is a total contrast to how Sundays usually are at my house. I normally get up feeling behind already. I head to the kitchen to fix a big breakfast and rush everyone to finish eating so they can take a bath while I iron the church clothes. I dash around here and there, dressing everyone, trying to get a shower myself and find myself screaming and yollaring at the entire family. Forget having time for my own quiet time with the Lord.
Then we miss our family ss lesson at home because we ran out of time and dash off to church feeling stressed. After church and back at home, I hit the kitchen feeling overworked and underpaid. I try to throw together a big meal in record time because everyone is evidently starving and because my mother is coming over to eat with us. Around 2 pm I leave the kitchen and find myself fighting Ray over who gets a nap today. I usually lose. :(
This whole day has been so stress free...and I like it. This is the way Sundays are meant to be. I think Ray's suggestions are going to become a regular way of life around here. :)

This sounds wonderful. What a wonderful change for your family.
We've had way too many Sundays like the ones you *used to have*.
