Nov. 4, 2008 - My Dad Died tomorrow
I am sad. I sometimes wonder why. Maybe it's because I never knew him.... I was 11 and I didn't know my dad. But I do miss him. At the age i lost him it was about me. children are innocently selfish. I remember some stuff because it made me laugh... like stories on the scratchy couch, eating half my apple in one bite.... And I remember some stuff maybe because I thought he was too harsh... like the time he spanked my brother with a chrome car adornment.... (my brother had been told many times not to pry the car decor off the old cars) .... I don't know... I just miss him. I miss what could have been I guess. I look at his picture and feel a kinship that was never there... who knows maybe it would have never been there had he lived. I'm not ungrateful for the things God has sent me... a step-dad who was responsible and took care of us all. but I miss him... sometimes I just feel guilty about that. he was handsome, beautiful really. I want to know his potential ... I think I am like him. But I don't know.

Oct. 7, 2008 - A Friend asked me a question
Why do I want something so bad but can't grasp it? Like knowing you should drink more water everyday , hypothetically, and yet you never do.
You already know that we can have Lying thoughts.
And we are to put them to death and make our thoughts obedient to Christ. 2 Cor 10:5
I believe thats where it starts.
that's Where we are constantly at war with our flesh, in our thought-life. this includes giving ear to our emotions.
If we are angry and we start entertaining angry thoughts then we are allowing our thoughts to be disobedient to Christ.
If we are lazy and don't feel like doing something we know we're supposed to and we start making excuses to ourselves because of it.... that is also allowing our thought to be disobedient.
this is why Jesus said, "If you even look on a woman with lust you have already sinned"Matthew 5:27-28 "a man who hates his brother is a murderer" 1 John 3:15
Because Jesus knows our thought life. He knows every deed begins with a thought. or every lack of deed begins with a thought.
Maybe the first step is to become aware of our thoughts. Become aware of how we are feeling and measure them against the Fruit of the Spirit. Gal. 5:22-23
Is this feeling/thought Loving or mean spirited? Joyful or self pitying? Peaceful or vengeful? Long-sufferring or Impatient? Gentle or Wrathful? Good or Nasty? In Accordance with my Faith or disbelieving? Kind or hateful? Does it help me to have Self-control or make me more lazy?
Either way we shouldn't be the ones who decide, we need to bring all our thoughts before the Lord. We shouldn't clean up our thought life before we come to Jesus. But I think if we can bask in his prescence during any of these feelings or thoughts, good or bad, He will show us and we will realize what it is we are supposed to do. And we can only accomplish it in His strength because being good on my own is as filthy rags to God. Isa 64:4-9 Only Jesus' righteousness is acceptable to God. It is good we are covered with him.
Now I'm not saying that we shouldn't try to be good... shall I sin more so that Grace may abound? by no means! Rom 6:1
romans 6:12-14 [with notes by me]
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body [our minds and feelings are part of our mortal body]so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin [even our minds], as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
Because we have given ourselves to Christ we are made righteous. Not that we should ever feel proud of ourselves if we do anything good.
Another verse that is extremely helpful is
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
This tells us what we should think about rather than what we shouldn't think about.
This has been good study for me. I'm going to make a Big sign of the Fruits of the Spirit to put somewhere where I can read them a lot.
I hope you didn't feel like I was preaching At you... I really got excited thinking about all the resources God has given me and i began to preach to myself. I just want to be pure and I'm failing so miserably. I really haven't been doing the things I wrote here.... And I realized that God gives us everything we need for LIfe and godliness. 2 Peter 1:3 And I haven't been using them. And all these verses keep coming into my mind and I'm so glad you asked me that question.

Sep. 18, 2008 - The miracle of life
Our chicks began hatching this morning very early. We were up with the birds (4:30 am) to watch them emerge. It's really wonderful. 3 have hatched so far and I'm hoping that two more will. the rest are duds. I marvel at the way God made them, so perfectly fitted for the purpose he created them for. at 1 hour old they are already pecking and fluffing themselves up like big chickens even though they fall over from doing it. It was hard not to help them through the hatching process.... almost as bad as the first time you have to let your baby cry it out. but I look at them and think that it came out of a chickens rear approx 25 days ago and here is this perfect little life... How can anyone think that that's a cosmic accident? here's a couple pics.

Sep. 7, 2008 - funny chickens
So I was feeding the chickens friday morning and one flew out of the run.......
This one particular chicken thinks she belongs with us and thinks she's a yard chicken, not a run chicken. So I didn't bother to chase her around because when she first gets out she has no interest in being caught. pet, carried and fed by the kids is fine but as soon as an adult approaches her she is very careful to stay just out of reach. The reason she is like this is because we had her out for a few days when the other hens pecked her comb off.
Anyway, so she flaps out in a huge loud dramatic escape and all the other chickens are impressed and worried. So I just left her 'cause it would just end up in a frustrating game of tag if I tried to catch her at this point. But I had to go in, make breakfast, get started for the day etc.
about 3 hours later I remembered the chicken was out when I heard a very loud "BA TOCK, BA TOCK, TOCK!!!!" so I run out to find out what's going on and she's way over in the vacant lot with a cat crouching a metre away! so I climbed over the fence and she came running over to me and couldn't wait to get picked up!
Who says chickens are dumb?

May. 2, 2008 - Lake of Yuck!
Well late monday night, or should I say early tuesday morning, My hubby discovered that there was a lake under our house due to an Insufficiently glued sewer pipe from our toilet.... YUCK! so we have had no toilet or bath or shower at our house since then. My sis and b-i-l have kindly let us use theirs and loaned us their port-a-potty henceforth known as pap.
Since using the pap I met Sally.... a tiger salamander in the basement who greeted me cheerfully upon my first morning trotting down to visit the pap. What a cute little gaffer.... I left it alone and it returned two more times to greet me upon my morning visit. The last time was this morning when I felt sorry for it.... it was covered with dust and no longer shiny and sleek..... so I captured it in a jar and let it go in the wild.... (next to my stoop) and did not let the cats out all morning. I hope it found shelter and worms to eat.
This is like camping. An Adventure. We visit the basement (for #1 only), wash in a basin and use the kitchen sink for everything else.... fun.
And... through this we are renovating the bathroom. There was moldy soft patches of subfloor, the pipes were all put together poorly, and the drywall and vapor barriers have some mold on.... not as much as I expected but still, I don't want it there.
Advice. Don't look at too many bathroom books from the library. All the bathrooms in these books approx. 100 sq. ft.!!! how annoying. We are not designing a bathroom for Henry the fifth people! i just want a few practical ideas!
Well hubby's on the phone with the insurance adjuster right ow to see if anything is covered. so maybe they will give us a little money to help with the cost.

Apr. 25, 2008 - Score!!! Big Buckets w/ lids
I asked at 2 different grocery stores, at costco, at DQ, at another icecream place.... I began to dispair....
Today I went back around and costco had saved me some...... LARGE BUCKETS WITH AIR TIGHT LIDS!!!!! Yay!
DQ also gave me some.... they asked for a donation to the children's miracle network.... no prob!
All the places i went to said they just throw them away... what a waste... what a consumeristic throw away society we live in.
the small local icecream guy was from India so i think he was surprised that someone here in north america was going to save and reuse something so useful and taken for granted.....and was so happy that I would use them and will now save them for me to pick up on thursdays. for some reason in our town we can't recycle those type of buckets so he was just having to throw them out.... there's only so many you can keep! Anyway he was very happy to save them for me.
There are some really great nice people out there if you give them a chance!

I mixed these all together in a shallow 9x13. and every time I turned the steaks I poked them all over with a fork. It is yummy!

Sep. 24, 2007 - It's the END of September as we know it....
I can't believe it.
Well I've been feeling a mite poorly over the last few weeks. Then there's been overwhelming desire to "non-school" this year and a million parties and much company. All fun stuff.
Anyway. we started easing into school today. Just a little and also no extra curricular activities for the children... i'm going to allow them to get good and bored this week so they will be happy to get into the routine of school next week.
Today we did a little bit of Math. We are starting a new math program that is such a breeze!!!! I know it will get harder as we go but for now I just am loving the break from the rigors of our former Math program. Both children will probably get a good start on the next level of this math program before the end of our school year so that's cool.
So here's what we are all doing for School.
My Father's World: Rome to the Reformation - this comes with sooooo many good books to peruse and you do a timeline and you read corresponding Bible passages and novels that go along with the curriculum. Also there's science that sometimes fits in with the whole theme and Art. But Science and Art also have plenty (more than we ever do) of other projects and lessons that do not go along with the theme. I think this year the Science Focus is on The Universe and the Human Body.
Kate is also going to be doing some book reports on the side and some other writing assignments with lesson plans off of Writinga-z.com
Then we are doing Math-u-see with both children. And maybe Mad Minute with Kate.
PJ is having Horizons phonics and reading and spelling and vocabulary and Five in a Row Volume 1. Plus he will be involved in the readings and science projects.
So that is my plan.

Some of the traditional knowledge on the site is very good. Such as Always eat veggies with some type of oil.
Anyway... it made for interesting reading.
Ayurveda is sanscrit for "science of life"
It's amazing how the wisdom of other belief systems can always be traced back to stuff it says in the Bible. I don't mean the recipes but more the health of the Whole Person.

Aug. 10, 2007 - There's nothing more exciting
than opening your mail and seeing you have a package!!!!
yesterday the package was so big! it hardly fit in the parcel box. And it wasn't just 1 it was 3!!!!
The Math.U.See curriculum I ordered for the kids came in and a new CD (well old but I had never owned this one before) The Coldplay CD "A Rush of Blood to the Head" Sooooo good! I love Coldplay. And the Build your own Medieval Castle book for dd's school curriculum this year.
So it was a good package day.
Also my DH is the king of freebies... I think he has a problem. Yesterday he picked up free cedar siding, free garage doors and a free humongeous hot tub.... with an ozonator! that means we don't have to spend $5000 on new siding, we don't have to spend $2000 on new garage doors and since we were never going to spend money on a new hottub anyway it's just a bonus.... and the ozonator means we don't have to use any chemicals! Suh-weet!
but our poor neighbours have to live next to us red necks..... At least we are fixing everythign up though.
Today the news of the day was that my neice, the most talkative child in the world, lost her voice. She didn't feel that great yesterday so I had been garlicing, vit c-ing, and Respiractining her since I noticed a bit of a cough yesterday. And today it progressed to Laryngitis (however you spell that). So it was really weird not hearing her talk all the time.

Aug. 8, 2007 - Some days you can't stand the sight of a Puppy
This is a ranting whiney complaint.
My head hurts... I'm trying to go off coffee... I just can't stand the kids right now. I want to send them to play but then they go all destructo on something or other and my dd walks around like there's nothing to do and then I give her a job that should take 10 min and it takes her 30..... Time to make a list.
Today, I am trying to use the patience I have been given.
Today, I am trying to be nice.
Today, I am trying to be consistent.
Today, I am trying to have motivation.
Today, I am trying to make a healthy meal plan.
Today, I want to quit.
Today, I am trying and it's really difficult.

Aug. 4, 2007 - On another note....
I finally ordered all my homeschooling curriculum for the coming year.... I'm really excited about the new math I chose. there are so many out there and I've been really sold on the one I've been using all along but then with my younger child ... he just didn't seem to get it.. you know? so I looked up some stuff and switched.... I am switching my oldest too... I think she will be able to help her little brother with it better if i switch her too...
... not really my intention to have her teach my son but just that if she can some days it will help reinforce what she's learning.... AND ... she's been so great in having a craft time and being really "teacher-ish" with both my neice and son.... she really has a gentle spirit that is perfect for teaching youngers ... I think it's her gifitng.

Aug. 4, 2007 - Freaking out
Well.... I've never been worried about this in my life... but this summer I have been super sensitive to the tornado thingy. I don't know why.... I just feel like I have to be super vigilant about tornados this year. Then last night I had a very real and vivid dream about what I should do during a tornado.
Today there is a tornado watch.... that's not as close as a warning but just that conditions are favourable for tornadoes. There have been several Severe T-storm warnings and watches but not yet a tornado warning.. Maybe God is preparing me for His glory.... who knows. but if something happens I will know it was God that gave me the insight to do what I do to save my kids.
PS... if anything happens to me or my dh... my sister gets my kids.

Aug. 2, 2007 - Buffalo
I wrote a whole thing yesterday about the buffalo but lost it somehow... grr.
Anyway, we.... my sis, her dd, my 2 dc and my neice who I'm looking after for the summer went to a National Park close to us yesterday for a picnic and just a nice day outside. At this national park they have a lot of buffalo and you can drive through the Buffalo paddock. well the Bulls were rutting and they were all fired up. Charging each other and making this weird growling noise with their tongues sticking out. So Amazing. At one point one of the bulls that was being chased came straight for the truck right at the open window! Scary. These things are huge. They could tip the truck over if they wanted to.... and their heads are the size of truck tires! Massive! They were hearding their chosed female of the day around and charging any other male that would come within 100 metres of them. I have never seen them so riled up before. There were a lot of calves of all sizes too. really tiny ones only a day old or so and some several months old too. Even the babies have little stubs of horns already.
We walked by the big lake and picked saskatoons. The lake was beautiful and choppy and sparkly.
It was a really great day.

Jul. 29, 2007 - wooo hooo!
that was some storm last night. The power was off for 3-4 hours. The wind was crazy and the sky was constantly flashing for a good 2 hours. I was lying awake listening for the sound of a tornado and watching for flying debris.... I was scared. I sure prayed a lot. That's a long time to be staying up in the middle of the night to be ready run off, get the kids and run down to the crawl space. Our basement is all cement and low ceilings but I think it would be safe if there was a tornado. then I finally drifted off and the wind slammed the door shut ... BOOOMM! so loud. Scared me really bad so I jumped up and realized it was just the door. It took me a while to calm down. Then a little while later my ds woke up so scared because it was pitch black in his room ... he thought the door was closed.... poor guy. I came to get him and he was crying... "But mom, I can't see you!" So he came to bed with us . Then dd couldn't sleep so I found a flashlight for her to read with.... and then it burned out right away. and the batteries on her MP3 player were dead so she just had to lay there in the dark with nothing to do. What A Night!

Jul. 28, 2007 - I never know what to say
blogging is weird. I never know what to say or tell.
We've been very busy. I am tired a lot. Summer has been beautiful weather..... and the lake is fuller than it's been in years. the children enjoy our yard and pool. Praise God for our yard!
My sis and I went to see my mom with our children. that was nice. R (step dad) got a cool little quad for the kids to ride around on.
We are getting a side of organic beef within a month.... that's exciting. Very good price too!
dh is working this weekend. that's not very exciting.
I need a few things from the store so i guess I will borrow my sis's vehicle to go in and get milk.
