Feb. 17, 2009 - grammar
I am really disappointed in the grammar choices out there. I have tried Easy Grammar, Abeka, and Harvey's grammar. I am now back to Rod and Staff. They are so straightforward, simple in their explanation, easy to follow, and excellent in the grammar instruction, including sentence diagramming. I have my oldest backed up to do 4th grade grammar with my twins because he had no real grammar instruction in public school. I feel like I am behind the eight ball with him, but we are backing up and getting the grammar foundation in. He is also doing Classical Writing with Homer and Latin Christiana. All helps with his grammar and writing which was lacking when I pulled him this past October from public school.. Thank goodness my twins are now homeschooled before they might have ended up like their brother. They are doing Rod and Staff grammar, and Classical Writing with Aesop and latin Christiana also.
Anyone else dealing with failure of public school to do what their child really needed in properly educating them. I am so thankful I pulled him when I did or else he might have lost even more ground. I think the grammar education in today's schools is terrible. There are some good instruction in public schools, but the grammar is definitely lacking.
God Bless!
