A Tribute to My Dad… A Contest!
There is a contest going on here at HSB, called “A Tribute to My Dad”. It was started by Amanda and Paulie. This is what you do: You write an essay about your dad, then you tell the people who are running it: Paulie and Amanda. The contest ends the 15th, so if you want to enter, better do it soon! Here is mine:
I love my Dad very much. He has a lot of qualities about him I admire:
He knows a lot about the Bible.
He’s hard working.
He likes to cook and clean.
He likes to play football with the kids.
He likes building things with us.
He doesn't mind helping us with the animals.
He likes to take the little boys outside, too.
He likes to make jokes, and he smiles a lot.
He likes taking us girls to the store when he can.
He likes to take us out for our birthdays.
He likes giving gifts.
My Dad means a lot to me.
My Dad means a lot to me. I love him so much, and I wouldn’t ask for any other father in the world if I had the chance of exchanging my Dad for any other. In fact, he means the world to me. I try to honour him, getting the house cleaned up before he gets home from work, make sure dinner is done or almost ready. By making sure he has his sweet tea to drink. And then cleaning everything up from dinner, that way he can relax without having a messy kitchen.
"Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir."
I love my Dad.
I love my Dad profusely (definition: abundant; in great amount).
He is my protection (the act of protecting or the state of being protected; preservation from injury or harm), my guide (to assist (a person) to travel through, or reach a destination in, an unfamiliar area, as by accompanying or giving directions to the person), my provider (a person who supports a family or another person), and my father (to act as a father toward). He is the one God gave me, and I thank God for giving me such a forgiving, loving, hard working, playful father.
He knows a lot about the Bible.
We can ask him about something, like a verses or what he would recommend for us to use, and he can give a reference. I like that about him, and I hope I can become like him in that area. I hope to memorize at least parts of the Bible if not all. I would like to have a family Bible study with my family, that way we can learn the Bible together.
My Dad's Family.
My Dad's family lives in New Mexico, so he doesn't get to see them often. The last time he saw them was in September 2005. I wish we lived closer because his grandmother has Alzheimer's, and so the last time they went down, she didn't really remember him.
He has lots of memories of his grandmother. One of the things he said he loved best and did a lot was his grandmother would take a cot to the back yard, and they would sleep out there. His brother and him usually slept out there. (His brother lives in NM too.) Last month, he took Eric, Hannah and me outside and put a cot up. We slept outside like he did when he was younger. He showed us the stars he knew, and we saw lots of shooting stars. I wish we could do this more often. I hope that we will have many more memories like the ones he had as a kid.
He likes to cook and clean.
Another thing I like about my Dad is that he cleans to perfection! He has to have everything cleaned before he starts cooking. He tells us every time he cooks with any of us girls that if we clean as we cook, the only things that will be left are the pans and the plates we ate off if. I hope that I will learn to do this, it will be much easier to clean if I do. My Dad also likes cooking. When he's home for the day, he'll get up and make breakfast before anybody gets up. If any of us do get up while he's making it, he'll ask if we want to help. I like cooking with my Dad. I think it's fun! I don't get to very often, because he's not home a lot, so I cherish the times I do. I hope that my husband will like to cook, that way he can help teach our children to cook.
He likes to play football with the kids.
I like it when he plays ball with us. He usually does this after a day in the garden weeding, or a day of mowing. I like it because he takes us out when it just starts to cool down.
He likes building things with us.
He likes to build things. I like it when he asks us to help him do something, like wiring the electricity. We did that on his vacation. He ran out of wire, so we couldn't finish it. But when his next vacation comes, we'll be working on it again!
Thanks for reading my Tribute to My Dad! I had fun honouring my Dad, and entering the Contest! It ends on the 15th, that leaves five days left, so if you want to enter, you'd better soon!
Sincerely,
Lady Rachel
I hope you have enjoyed reading the thoughts of a thirteen-year-old girl from the country."You can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens you!" Philippians 4:13

That was a wonderful tribute to your dad. He is very blessed to have you for a daughter.
I hope you and your family are doing well. With a new baby at our house we have stayed very busy.
