The 15th Homesteading Carnival - Welcome Fall Edition
I am very honored to be hosting the THC! This is the Welcome
First up, we have how to remove honey from a beehive from Cathi-Lyn from Lazy Creek Lifestyle tells and gives pictures of the queen bee and worker bees. She says about the queen bee, "Once mated, queens are notoriously hopeless at getting back into their hives if knocked out on the ground. The only time they care to spread their wings is for their mating flight or to swarm. I suspect they’re programmed not to worry about it because their pheromone commands are supposed to attract the hive to them, rather than them having to go
to the hive." She also posted about extracting honey from a beehive. She includes pictures of getting the honey back to the Honey-House. Cathi-Lyn tells about a day of extracting the honey. Venture over to Home...Where I Long To Be... and see what happened when, on Friday they went to have their Friday Nature Walk, and they decided to go document the garden. She has beautiful pictures of their lovely, well-weeded and bountiful garden. How do you do it all Carol? She says it's All In A Summer's Work.
Then we have a couple recipes from Makayla. She said, "Now I thought these recipes sounded really good! So I thought I would share them with you!" She gives are recipe for a delicious Lemon Chicken for dinner, and after that, you can make Chocolate Caramel Bars for a desert after a delicious lemon chicken dinner! Then we go over to Scarecrow's and find out about "Expressions." Read how "Back in George Washington's days, there were no cameras. Read about how that
Take a look at Chas's "A little something giveaway..." post. "I have seen so many of you giving away such wonderful gifts, handmade dolls, aprons, books and much more... so in the spirit of giving I decided I would like to hold a giveaway as well. Check out the Pumpkin Patch she has for a very special winner! "How can she give away a pumpkin patch? They are very cute! You can see pictures of them on her post, and I'm sure you will like them! So... Hurry up and enter to win!

She made a big pot of vegetable soup in honor of the occasion. See how she makes it a family time and even makes her "Harvest Treats": What a simple recipe!
Leslie Valeska asks, "Can You Afford Healthy?" on the HSB Company Porch. Her reasons to buy organic? "Organic or not, we purchase as much of our food fresh as possible. Why? Well, it is simple, the less processing any food item needs, the more healthful it is." Stop over there and read the rest of the post! It's very good! She blogs at Raise the Cup!Barbara at Finding Contentment posted about, "My canning room". She tells about her husband turning their cellar into a canning room. Stop over to hear about her first canning experience and look at all the pictures!!

Homeschooling on the homestead can be a joy or a worry. Don't lose confidence! read at Seeking Rest Homeschool how living life and life on a farm allows you to incorporate Living Learning Moments as many of the lessons in Homeschooling, The Confidence Factor.
Amy at Simple Folk School House tells about a letter that was written by her great-great-uncle. "Here is another of my family treasures. This letter was written by my great-great uncle John (b.1843) to his mother Charlotte (b. 1816) in 1898. Uncle John was an amazing man..." She posted a picture of the letter, if you want to see it.
Do you need some Fall crafts to do? Here is one: Leaf Thank You Notes Fall craft? Go over for another Fall craft: Pressed Leaves Placemat. These were both by Lynn of Camelot Homestead Academy. She tells how to make them in her post. Amanda gives us insight from My Learning Experience in her post, Monday's Easy Meal Plan Recipes. What easy meal plan does she have this week?

I didn't expect much publicity from this post - I didn't think many people read my HSB2 blog!
I can't take any credit for that garden, as I said in my post, two of our friends and teamwork went into the garden, while I mostly stayed home and cheered from the sidelines. My kids are too little for me to do that kind of work this year...there's always next year.
Your friend,
Carol
