Riddle Me This: Riddles In The Dark
I thought I would post something fun for you to do. I’m sure you all know the answers to these riddles, if you have read The Hobbit book by J.R.R. Tolkien. He is one of my favourite authors. I thought these would do fine for a post. And since Eric and Hannah started reading The Hobbit yesterday, I thought I would share a bit of the book with you!
Taken from The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. “Riddles In The Dark”, chapter five.
Gollum’s first riddle:So, could you get any of the riddles? What did you think of the ones you haven’t heard? Tell me in a comment if you have already heard them, or know the answer to any of them. Just put a “G4” for “Gollum #4.“ Get it? There is no prize; this is just for fun, and everyone could use a little fun every now and again, right?
“What has roots that nobody sees
“Is taller than trees
“Up, up it goes,
“And yet never grows?”
Know it?
Bilbo’s first riddle:
“Thirty white horses on a red hill,
“First they champ,
“Then they stamp,
“Then they stand still.”
Got that one?
Gollum #2:
“Voiceless it cries,
“Wingless flutters,
“Toothless bites,
“Mouthless mutters.”
Yes?
Bilbo #2:
“An eye in a blue face
“Saw an eye in a green face.
“’That eye is like to this eye’
“Said the first eye,
“But in low place,
“Not in high place.”
Did I get you there?
Gollum #3:
“It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
“Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt,.
“It lies behind stars and under hills,
“And empty holes it fills.
“It comes first and follows after,
“Ends life, and kills laughter.”
Do it you know it?
Bilbo #3:
“A box without hinges, key or lid,
“Yet golden treasure inside is hid.”
“The answers not a kettle boiling over, as you seem to think with the noise your making!” Bilbo, The Hobbit.
Gollum #4:
“Alive without breath,
“As cold as death;
“Never thirsty, ever drinking,
“All in mail never clinking.”
What about this one?
Bilbo #4:
“No-legs lay on one-leg,
“Two-legs sat near on three-legs,
“Four-legs got some.”
Can you guess it, precious?! Gollum.
Gollum #5:
“This thing all things devours:
“Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
“Gnaws iron, bites steel,
“Grinds hard stones to meal;
“Slays kings, ruins towns,
“And beats high mountain down.”
It passes us everyday.
And of course, Bilbo’s last “riddle”:
“What have I got in my pocket?”
Guess what I have in mine.
Well, please stop over to my homestead blog, Rachel’s Reasoning, and read the latest.
Sincerely,
Lady Rachel

Ahhh...I have read The Hobbit, but not in a long while, and so I don't remember the answers to the riddles, except for Bilbo's last one. I think this was a great topic for a post!
I don't think it could be quite a year, because I didn't meet you right when I started blogging. I'm not sure, though. I think I visited your blog around the time I met Jocelyn, but I don't think I commented until later. However long we've known each other, though, I'm glad we have!
Did you read my post with the recipe for pumpkin chocolate chip muffins? Jocelyn thinks you should make some, LOL! I think you should too, I think they'd be really good!
That's too bad about your guitar. I really want to learn how, I just have to wait for a guitar to be provided. I have tried playing on my friend's guitar, once, and she taught me some chords, but I haven't learned anything else and plus I don't have anything to practice it on. Oh well. Do you know how to play piano? I am teaching myself.
Yes, Susan isn't my favorite, though she is nice. I like Lucy better, and wanted to stick to having her on my avatar, but I really liked how Susan's dress was gold. What do you think of this one?
Love you, too!

Thank you for you sweet comments! I'm sorry that it has taken me forever to comment you!
Hayden is doing fabulous! He's is just as sweet as cam be. The great thing is we are going to be adopting him in like January or February! We are all very excited. A couple months ago, we didn't think we were going to be able to adopt him, but God has really worked in Hayden's case. I'll share more in my next post.
Wow, those riddles really stumped me! But, I'm going to totally guessing on G3...could it be silence? That's the only thing I could think of. LOL!
Let me know when you post the answers! I'm really curious.
Jenna ; )
