Amanda's Birthday and the Novak's Stay...
WOW! These past two weeks have been very busy with trying to get everything done for Amanda’s party that was on Saturday, and for the Novak’s to stay the night. This post is going to be extremely long, so grab a cup of hot tea and take a minute to read it. I will go by the days.
Friday:
Mom, Amanda, Jocelyn, Caleb, Lucy, and I went to Wal-Mart to pick a few things for the party. We left home around 12am and didn’t get home until 1:30am, then the cooking started. We boiled water for deviled eggs, put beans in the crockpots, made apple dip. Jocelyn made raspberry bombe. It’s a Jell-O top with crushed Oreos on the bottom with Oreos on top. Amanda made a cheese ball. Ok, so it didn’t harden up to be made into a ball. She forgot to drain the pineapple first, so it was runny. But it was still good.
I had the job of blowing balloons up which took a lot of my air, and helping Jocelyn hang streamers, the fun stuff. I also had to clean the table and floor. We made sure everything was clean and ready for the party. Mom was on the computer talking to Auntie Christina about what we were doing and posting a blog post. We got to bed around 4:45-5am.
Saturday:
I was woken up by Jocelyn around 10:30-10:45am, not a very long sleep. We got right to work. They had already fed the chickens and Eric, (I think) had done the waterers, so the only thing for me to do was make sure there wasn’t any dishes to be cleaned and that the food was set out when people started to arrive. I also had to take a shower.
Amanda’s old friend, Katie, arrived first. Then the Hidleboughs. I got to meet Britta, Megan, Micah, Zara, and Abbi. I had already met Mrs. Hidlebough at a Creative Memories meeting I went to with Mom. Then the Novak’s got here around 2-something. I was so excited to meet them! I had already met Eric when he and his dad came, but I had not met Mrs. Novak, Elizabeth, and Anna. My Grandpa and his wife arrived last. Well, not last: my Daddy got home from work around 3-something. Then, the party really began!
We ate, and then talked, and then it was time for her to open her presents! She got tons of things, and lots of candy. I got something too. It was from my dear friend, Miss Ashley from homesteadblogger: Soap. She sent all three of us girls soap. She wrote each of us a card. It was very sweet of her.
Then after everyone had left, Eric got his guitar out and played us some songs. He played us a song about living in the “boondocks” and some worship ones. He even sang them for us.
The girls and Eric helped us with the animals. Elizabeth milked Heidi and Eric helped Amanda feed the horses. Eric (my brother) and Anna did the chicken waters, while Elizabeth and I fed the chickens. Then we locked everything up, and went to the house.
We talked about a lot of stuff after we came up. I talked with Elizabeth while the Littles and Anna watched the Lone Ranger show. We talked about the books she had brought, which were very interesting, and about different things like drawing, ourselves, and about what we would like to do when we grow up. She is twelve and I’m thirteen but she is taller than I am so I felt like I was talking to a sixteen-year-old. Anna is as tall as I am, and she is only eight. Whenever I was in the same room as all three of them, I felt very small.
So, we all went to bed. I had to sleep in Jocelyn and Amanda’s room so Mom could sleep in my bed. Jocelyn has a couch that comes apart so I got one cushions and she got the other. We went to bed around 1am. And that is the end of Saturday...
Sunday:
I got up because Amanda was opening her drawers. I closed my eyes and was going to go back to sleep when I remembered that the Novak’s were here. I got up and went downstairs. They had already done everything in the barn, so I didn’t have to get all dirty.
Eric and Jocelyn made breakfast. Eric had brought three goose eggs for us to eat. He made the eggs, and put a lot of cheese in them. Jocelyn made the bacon and pancakes, and Eric helped her serve. We ate and then Eric played some worship songs for us, and we read the Bible.
Jocelyn and Amanda had an idea that we could go walking in the woods on the other side of the corn field, and everyone wanted to do this. But first we had to pick peppers and tomatoes out of our garden. Eric, Elizabeth, Anna, and the rest of us went out and got a big trash can and a bucket and filled them with tomatoes and peppers. Eric and Elizabeth were eating our red tomatoes. Isaac and Caleb were squirting/throwing tomatoes at him. Eric actually started throwing peppers first, and then we were throwing little green tomatoes at each other. Then Mrs. Novak came out with Mom and helped us. She ate some tomatoes too. Then Eric and Eric wrestled because Eric (my brother) wouldn’t stop throwing peppers at Eric. So Eric swung him around by his feet and threw him on the top of our schoolhouse roof. Seriously, he did. Then we all went in.
Then Eric and Eric played like ten games of pool. After we came in, Elizabeth showed me how to crochet. I still don’t know how she does it, but I will learn sometime. Then we talked about writing. I asked her if she wanted to be pen-pals, so now she and I are pen-pals.
Then all of us kids except Caleb went walking in the field and the woods beyond the field. I didn’t go into the woods because I had a skirt on and there was poison ivy in there, and I was NOT getting poison ivy again. We walked all the way around the woods and back to the house. Then Eric, Amanda and Jocelyn went for a walk across the tracks into the woods. Elizabeth and I played pool while the adults talked in the house.
hey were supposed to leave in the afternoon, but since Mrs. Novak didn’t really want to leave, they got to stay another night! Yay!
Eric likes to draw barns, and he wanted to draw ours, so I had to give him my sketch pad. I would not let him look at any of my other drawings. I promised that I would send him and the others drawings I would draw for them. I am still working on them. I drew Eric’s first, I wanted to make sure I got his done. I sat out there with him while he drew it. He did a good job on it. He drew the lean-to, and the shed, but he wouldn’t draw the chickens around it! Ok, I guess it would’ve been hard to draw them.
We ate chili for dinner. Eric, Jocelyn and Amanda went to Dollar General and got stuff for s’mores. I did the dishes and Mrs. Novak helped me dry them. The girls and Eric got back, Eric built a fire and Amanda came in and helped dry dishes, while Eric and Jocelyn went down and got more firewood. I had to go down and see if they needed help. Then Jocelyn had to go in and do something, and Eric had to stay out there and make sure the fire “didn’t run away and do mischief”. I came back in and Mrs. Novak was doing the dishes. So I helped until I went outside again to see what Eric was doing.
Then all the kids came out and we had s’mores. Eric sang/played us some songs. We got our fireside book of songs, and he played some songs out of that. Then he sang us some Irish songs. We had to come in around 11:30. We got ready for bed and the Littles went to bed. The older kids sat down with the adults and talked with them. We went to bed around 1am.
Monday:
We had oatmeal for breakfast, and what was left of the raspberry bombe. Then Eric played us some more songs. They got everything of theirs packed and took it to the car. The kids got on the couch and Eric played “Ghost Rider” for us and we sang it, while Mom took pictures of us. Mrs. Novak told us they had to leave, so we said our goodbye’s and walked with them out to their car. Mom gave them a package of Oreos, a box of cheese crackers and a container of pretzels. Eric wouldn’t take them, and put them in the car. Instead he starts singing the “baloney” song! He’s such a weirdo! But in the end, they all piled into the car, and drove down the driveway and left. Then, Amanda, Jocelyn and I went to the library and commented!
Was the post long enough for you? LOL!
Sincerely,
Lady Rachel

I hope that you and Elizabeth really do take the time to be penpals. My MountainPrincess enjoys her penpals very much.
I felt like I could see you all at your house the way that you described it in so much detail. I'm glad that your family and the Novaks have connected together in such a real way.
Your friend,
Mrs. TLL

My name is Melanie. You may have seen me on your sister's blogs before. I've been meaning to come say howdy for a while and just hadn't gotten around to it, until now. :-)
I read your whole post about last weekend and it sounds like y'all had a fabulous time! Oh, and I hope you don't mind that I traded the tea for some hot chocolate. ;-)
You have a lovely blog and I'll try to come by more often. Have a blessed day!
Sincerely,
Mellie
