America Poem for Writing Class

This is the first poem I had to write for class. Enjoy!

America,

Splendid, sandy seashores that collect shells upon its sand.

Fantastic, fragrant forests that are filled with trees.

Mighty, majestic mountains that stand-up for our country

Rowdy, running rivers that ripple in the wind.

Perfectly pleasant plains filled with flowering meadows.

Charming churches changing people’s hearts with God’s love.

Tastefully, tantalizing towns with neighborly people.

Friendly, fruitful farms that harvest crops.

America, land of

Free people who love and worship God.

Brave people who fight for freedom.

"The free and the brave."

"God Bless America,

My Home Sweet Home."

Boston Tea Party Story for Writing Class

The Adventure of a Lifetime

On a cool evening in December along the Boston Harbor, the cobblestone streets were crowded with people bustling about. Sixteen-year-old Jon, who was a member of the ‘Sons of Liberty’, was dressing himself inside Treasure Cave for the special occasion. The ‘Sons of Liberty’ were disguising themselves as ‘Native Americans’ so they would not be recognized. The ‘Sons of Liberty’ were preparing themselves to reply to King George’s unfair tax on tea. They knew there were three ships in the harbor full of English tea. The tea would not make it ashore. They planned on ‘unloading’ it into the harbor that evening. Anxiously, Jon prepared to be a part of the activity but he was scared. His heart was racing quickly. He feared this could be a perilous adventure. He was not sure if he was just being a baby or could he be right?

At this time, the ‘Sons of Liberty’ were transfixed on no tea taxation. Jon knew that the English ordered the colonists to pay a tax on tea. Everyone thought this tax was not fair. Rebelliously, the colonists demanded the tea be sent back to England. King George, who ordered the tea to be unloaded tonight, December 16, was not aware of the plans of Jon and his friends. The colonists were appalled with the way he was dealing with them. They could not fathom King George treating them so unfairly. His decision provoked their reply. He would hear their rebel cries. No tax on tea!

The ‘Sons of Liberty’ stood in a dark alley lined up like soldiers, waiting for the signal from Samuel. Samuel Adams, who was a cousin to John Adams, took the opportunity to lead this "tea party." Suddenly, everyone heard a thunderous BOOM! That was the signal they had waited to hear. As they ran out to the sound of the signal, many people gasped fearing a raid by the Native Americans. Soon people realized they were the ‘Sons of Liberty’ in disguise. The rebels ran aboard as fast as they could. Upon boarding the first ship, they saw the one hundred fourteen chests of tea. In seconds, they dumped the entire shipment of tea into the cool Boston Harbor. When they finished with the crates on the first ship, some clung to ropes and lowered themselves into the cold sea, while others swung from ship to ship. Jon jumped into the cool water. He was swimming so quickly his moccasins filled with water and almost fell off. As Jon was swimming across to the next ship, he did not notice the danger in the water. He was swimming toward a jellyfish! Just as Jon reached the next ship he felt a hot, sharp sting. Could he have been shot? No, the pain was familiar. He was stung by a jellyfish. The piercing pain shot through his leg but he persevered and kept focused on the job at hand. Bravely, he continued his task. The ‘Sons of Liberty’ were tearing into the crates faster on each ship.

People began to chant, "Rally Indians! Bring your axes, and tell King George we’ll pay no taxes." When they finished dumping the last crates of tea, they escaped through the cheering crowd to where it all started, Treasure Cave. Jon felt proud that he had participated in this life changing adventure.

Native Americans~ a poem

This is a poem I wrote for my writing class. I will try to post more of them and my stories too. Enjoy!

Native Americans

Their raven hair wrapped tightly in braids.

Their jet black eyes reverently explore the land around them.

Their mouth waters for freshly hunted deer meat and wild berries.

Their strong hands skillfully hold their weapons.

Their quick feet creep across the forest floor fearlessly.

Their tan bodies adorned in buffalo hide.

Their faces painted in bright colors.

Their hearts break with each tumbling tree.

Their canoes carved with careful hands.

They rarely waste any portion of the game they hunt.

They always remember the traditions of their ancestors.

They dream of peace.

They are Native Americans

My Cousins

I have a lot of cousins. In fact I have eight  all together from ages 11-3. Drew is 11. He really likes sports. He likes Notre Dame football, basketball and baseball. Sarah is 11 also. She is my twin. She plays softball and the flute. Randy is 10 and going to turn 11 soon. He likes sports a lot. He knows about all kinds of sports players and stuff. Maren is 9. She plays the piano, softball, basketball and soccer. Krista is 8, almost 9. She likes to play with her cousins a lot. She is on a swim club with me and Emma. Carley is 6. She is on the swim club too. She also is taking gymnastics. She is soooooo tiny. Sam is 4. He likes football and baseball. He is really funny. Faith is 3. She just likes to play and talk a lot. Those are all my cousins. My sister and I fill in the spots between Randy and Maren and then between Krista and Carley. I am 9 almost 10. Emma is 6 almost 7. There are a lot of birthday parties in the summer. We have 10 parties between June 22 and August 25th each year.  I love having so many cousins especially in the summer time. We don't have school so we can play more often. We also see each other on a regular basis on Wednesdays during the year. My mom takes Emma, Carley, Sam and Faith to Bible School. I go to Daddy's office to do school work. It's great when I am able to see Randy and Maren because they live further away and am not able to see them as often. I like to trade cards with Randy and we like to play house or hospital with Maren.  I also like to see Drew, Carley and Sam to play. Drew and I like to ride bikes together and trade cards. With Carley we like to play dollhouse. Sam just tags along.  Sarah, Krista and Faith come over and we play dress up or outside. Every year at least one time  during the year, we have a big cousin sleep over. When they come over, we stay up late and watch movies, do crafts, eat lots of yummy food and just have fun. This year Randy and Maren got to come too. It was great to have all 10 of us together!

Sun in the sky today,

Pretty flowers and weeds,

Red bellied robins fly by,

Insects like bees;

Now there's some of my,

Green tulip trees.

Today I wanted to write about what I have been doing since last Thursday. We went shopping with Aunt ConCon and  Faith on Thursday to look at bunk beds.  On Friday we took Daddy to show him the beds we liked and then we went out to eat at Red Lobster. Then on Saturday we had dance pictures also there were some guys working on putting a new roof on our house and finished the same day !!!and then I fell off my new bike. Then on Sunday we went out with the Perkins for lunch after church.

Now an update about Monday, we took Kathleen Perkins to the doctor with us to see if I had broken my arm when I fell off my bike on Saturday. I had to get an x-ray of my elbow. It was not  broken. Yeah ! Then we came home and played with Kathleen until her mom came to get her.

Today is a regular Tuesday for me. Tonight Emma gets to go to swim club but I can't because I have dance class. Only a few more weeks and then I will be done with dance and can start swimming again.
