Thankful For My Husband
Posted in Faith

So you guys thought I just dropped off the earth I bet. (Which I do from time to time.) But this time actually my husband had unexpected heart bypass surgery. I am telling you this story, because if something like this ever happens to you I want you to do something. (Even if your husband is stubborn like mine.)
He came home from work about exactly one month ago. He came into my study and said, "I had a funny feeling today in my chest." He pointed right in the center of his chest. He said, "I had a little bit of burning right here, then I felt a little bit of pressure, and then my arms felt tired."
Well, I had heard that these could all be signs of a heart attack, so I called my mom who is a nurse. She said, "Make him go to the emergency room right now!" Well, of course he didn't want to go, because he really looked just fine right then. It seemed pretty extreme. Especially when you have a huge deductible on your insurance! Finally I typed "symptoms of a heart attack" in to google, and I printed out this page that basically said if you have any of those symptoms he had he should check it out. So we went.
They found nothing. The doctor prescribed pepcid and I looked like a big paranoid idiot. But I didn't care. I said, "I will be wrong on this deal a hundred times rather than miss it once and suffer the consequences." The ER doctor did mildly suggest that we follow up with a cardiologist soon to totally rule out the heart problem. The real miracle here is that we actually did it.
The next Thurs. we were in the cardiologist's office and he suggested a stress test before sending us on the the gastro man to fix the reflux problem.
The next morning the cardiologist called me and said, "Mrs. Khoury, I am very concerned about your husband. I am so concerned that I'm afraid something might happen before we can get him scheduled for an agiogram." (He flunked the stress test.)
So, that was about three weeks ago. Turns out he had a huge blockage in the "widow maker" artery that supplies the front of the heart and another artery on that same side. They couldn't stint there so he had to have double bypass surgery.
Miracles:
My husband is alive. He did not have a heart attack. He does not have heart damage. I am thankful God has granted us some more years. Hope all of you had a happy Thanksgiving!

But thank God, he is fine now. My father went in a year and a half ago to have a stint put in where he had an aortic aneurysm and came out with two extra stints after a second smaller aneurysm was detected and one of the stints was blocking the blood supply to the kidneys. A series of miracles got him to the point of surgery, including a study he was involved in that detected the original aneurysm (which was 8 cm.--ready to blow) and an excellent surgeon who told my father that if it weren't taken care of he would lose more blood in the first few minutes after it burst that it would be impossible to save him. It was important for him to hear that since my father was considering using "positive thinking" to shrink it.
He is still with us and in good health.
Thank God for miracles,
Cristina
P.S.-I'm waiting for that peanut brittle recipe!

I'm near NYC and we haven't seen a snowflake yet this year! Kind of weird for me. My birthday is December 4 (I'll be 38 <>) and I'm used to at least needing a winter coat by now. Today's temperatures are in the 60's!!
Keep your hubby warm and drink some cocoa for me!

I am glad to hear that your husband is okay. On January 1, 2005, I nearly lost my husband. He was a police officer and was involved in an on duty auto accident that has left him permanently disabled. But he is alive, I still have my best friend, and my children still have a father.
I found you through your comment on Lashawn Barber. I have my main blog penofjen.blogspot.com and my homeschool blog.
I'll be back to read more from a fellow veteran homeschooler/Christian.
Blessings to you and yours
