Procrastination Station

Posted in Procrastination Station

Welcome to Procrastination Station!  This is where you can list five things that you have been procrastinating about.  Why should you do this?  Because it is the first step in reversing the cycle and actually getting those things done.

So every Wednesday here in Robin's Nest, I will post the shirt (which has a signifigance, read on!) That is the cue to list your five items.  Maybe one day you will not have 5 items anymore.  At that point you can run through a mental checklist to see if there is anything else you need to list.

Perhaps you are wondering why I chose this shirt as the Procrastination Station icon. Well, I think it has to do with my dear husband and about 10 dress shirts that had been hanging in my laundry room for two or three months.  I had washed them and hung them up.  I needed to iron them.  But I didn't.  Instead, I procrastinated for a long time.  Every time I saw them they drug me down.  I hated them!  I feared and dreaded the job.  Finally one day I got SO sick of them I decided to just go ahead and iron them.

Actually, when I first started ironing, I was only going to do one.  (I have read in advice for procrastinators to break the job up into little pieces.)  But once I started I got a little bit of steam going, (no pun intended! ) and I thought, this isn't so bad!  So then I decided to iron three of them.  By the time I got to three I was feeling such victory and power that I just finished all ten of them.  I felt like Rocky Balboa. Can you picture me running up the steps with my iron?

As the currently reigning Procrastination Queen of the Universe I have been experimenting with this system.  I have conquered several longstanding procrastinations since the shirts. I want to keep going until I get them all done. So I thought it would be fun to get rid of our procrastination together.

The Lord spoke to me that day.  I have a long list of things that I have been procrastinating about.  I won't write them all down, but just the first 5.  Hopefully by next week when I roll into Procrastination Station I can cross one of them off.  What about you?  Leave me a comment with your Procrastination Station list. Be sure to share your little victories each week.

Robin's Steps To Conquering Procrastination

  1. Write down the things you have been procrastinating about
  2. Pray and ask God to help you get them done.
  3. If the task is large, divide it up into sections.
  4. Schedule a time to begin and write it on your planner.
  5. Tell someone about it.  (How about Procrastination Station?)

Robin's Five Things

What a great idea!! I am going to link to this on my blog because it's motivating and fun!! I even added to my home calendar... on Wed... "Robin's Nest" so I'll remember to come and post!

OK... here are my husband's 5....
1. Finish our staircase (by covering the holes at the bottom where they didn't put wood)
2. Oil change for Jetta
3. Start studying the bible more
4. Get the kids doing a bible study
5. Set up date nights more often with my wife!(awwww)

And here are mine:
1. Catch up kids journals (working on my oldest daughters so that is the one I need to catch up on right now)
2. Start piano lessons with my oldest son
3. Clean out our bedroom of all the toys I have minimized in the kids room (store in spare unfinished bathroom)
4. Order my new glasses!! I wear contacts and want to stop! I have my prescription from my eye appt. but keep procrastinating on getting into Walmart to get the glasses ordered that I like (cheaper than my eye doctor)
5. Completing a project in my kitchen... an idea I got from a friend to store spices and things under my cabinets in jars that the covers are screwed into the underneath of the cabinets! I am collecting jars... but need to get the size measured to have a piece of plywood cut to attach to the bottom.

Jan. 14, 2007 - Hey, thanks...how relevant

What an excellent post! Sure hits me where it hurts. I've just put some of those shirts back into his closet, knowing that if they really are too wrinkled, they'll come back out! Is that wicked, or what? I need to organize our photos. 20 years worth! I did actually bring them upstairs (this year!!!) and park them next to the dining room table, and that enabled me to put most of them into chronological order. But we got tired of the mess in the dining room. I'm going to come up with five things. I'm going to add you to my friend list so I can find this again! I'm feeling motivated!!

I homeschooled both of my boys from kindergarten through grade 12, so I am definitely an "old timer". I would like to encourage younger mothers in the Titus 2 tradition.
