I pray that you are enjoying this day that the good Lord has
given us. I am so thankful that we had bright sunshine today!
I've been reading through the book of Nehemiah lately. I was
impressed by 3 things. 1.Nehemiah prayed. Then he did something.
He asked the king for help, at the risk of his life.
2.God provided help and protection for Nehemiah. The King
listened and was touched by his request for supplies and
leave from his job as cupbearer. 3. Nehemiah led the way.
He went to the wall, examined it, and organized the workers
to fix it. When the wall was finished, he glorified God and
praised Him for strength and protection.
Our society is broken down like the old walls of Jerusalem
that Nehemiah wept over. Who will pray and weep like
Nehemiah did? Who will lead the way to fix the world view
that our young people have? We homeschoolers have an opportunity to
begin to build back the Godly foundation of our country.
God will guide, strengthen and protect us as he did Nehemiah.
"Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands."
Nehemiah 6:9b

When skies are grey and cold winds whistle outside, even the cheeriest of homeschools can get a little gloomy. Cabin fever combined with too much togetherness causes crankiness. Children whine and fuss, and you wonder whether homeschooling was really such a great idea. Before winter casts a shadow on your school, consider spending some time in the book of Philippians.
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6 God has begun His work in our lives and our children’s lives. He will complete it. We don’t have to carry the burden of making our children “turn out” a certain way. It’s His job. So there is no need to accept pressure to make our schools conform to a worldly idea of education. Relax and teach your children joyfully. Give yourself permission to plan something just for fun to break up long winter days. More on this theme next time.

So you guys thought I just dropped off the earth I bet. (Which I do from time to time.) But this time actually my husband had unexpected heart bypass surgery. I am telling you this story, because if something like this ever happens to you I want you to do something. (Even if your husband is stubborn like mine.)
He came home from work about exactly one month ago. He came into my study and said, "I had a funny feeling today in my chest." He pointed right in the center of his chest. He said, "I had a little bit of burning right here, then I felt a little bit of pressure, and then my arms felt tired."
Well, I had heard that these could all be signs of a heart attack, so I called my mom who is a nurse. She said, "Make him go to the emergency room right now!" Well, of course he didn't want to go, because he really looked just fine right then. It seemed pretty extreme. Especially when you have a huge deductible on your insurance! Finally I typed "symptoms of a heart attack" in to google, and I printed out this page that basically said if you have any of those symptoms he had he should check it out. So we went.
They found nothing. The doctor prescribed pepcid and I looked like a big paranoid idiot. But I didn't care. I said, "I will be wrong on this deal a hundred times rather than miss it once and suffer the consequences." The ER doctor did mildly suggest that we follow up with a cardiologist soon to totally rule out the heart problem. The real miracle here is that we actually did it.
The next Thurs. we were in the cardiologist's office and he suggested a stress test before sending us on the the gastro man to fix the reflux problem.
The next morning the cardiologist called me and said, "Mrs. Khoury, I am very concerned about your husband. I am so concerned that I'm afraid something might happen before we can get him scheduled for an agiogram." (He flunked the stress test.)
So, that was about three weeks ago. Turns out he had a huge blockage in the "widow maker" artery that supplies the front of the heart and another artery on that same side. They couldn't stint there so he had to have double bypass surgery.
Miracles:
My husband is alive. He did not have a heart attack. He does not have heart damage. I am thankful God has granted us some more years. Hope all of you had a happy Thanksgiving!
