And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap if we faint not. Galatians 6:9

Jan. 10, 2009 - Favorite Books on Parenting

Posted in Book Lists

Here is my favorite book list for teaching and training our children:

The Bible

Shepherding a Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp

Don't Make Me Count to Three by Ginger Plowman

The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartian

Proverbs for Parenting by Barbara Decker

Any books and studies by Doorposts

Biblical Parenting by Don Gilchrist

Homemaking by J. R. Miller

The Duties of Parents by J. C. Ryle (free pdf file)

This list is certainly not exhaustive but these are the ones I have piled on my desk right now.
They have all blessed us and given us vision and insight in our parenting.  With any book on this subject always go to scripture and see that it aligns with God's word.

Jan. 7, 2009 - Favorite Books for Women, Wives and Mothers

Posted in Book Lists

One of my favorite lines from a movie is from The Human Comedy.  The little nerdy neighbor boy and Ulysses go to the library and the neighbor boy says:

"See all them books, Ulysses, they're all saying something; and someday I'm gonna read all them books"

Walking into the library or a homeschool convention just gives my a heart a thrill.  All those books, stories and information, oh my.  They are all saying something, we just need to pray for discernment.

Over the next few days I am going to list some of my favorite books in several different areas. Of course, these lists will not be an exhaustive list, just what I have read and liked.

Books to encourage and inspire women, wives and mothers:

Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss (my all time favorite book)

The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace

Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney

Seasons of a Mother's Heart by Sally Clarkson

Passionate Housewives Desperate for God by Jennie Chancey and Stacy McDonald

The Fruit of Her Hands by Nancy Wilson

Created to Be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl

Home-making by J. R. Miller

Marriage to a Difficult Man, The Uncommon Union of Jonathan & Sarah Edwards by Elisabeth Dodds

The Hidden Art of Homemaking by Edith Schaeffer

I heard it said that you are the same person a year from now except for the people you meet and the books your read.
