Robots Galore!

• May. 24, 2007 - Today...

Today is the second day my Grandpa and Grandma are here. This morning mom and dad left for florida for a holiday. And I have been playing Dragonfable ( www.dragonfable.com ) A LOT! It is cool... I am level 9, and what is REALLY wierd is... (are you ready???) DAD WANTS A FILE!!!  *FAINT* So yeah... SEE YA'!

• May. 21, 2007 - More of, "Da' Lowdown"...

This version of "Da' Lowdown" is centered on my robotics history. Okay, so I think the last robot you saw was Alfred 1.0. Well, since then, I have made Alfred 2.0, 3.0, and Alfred 3.5. And that's just my object avoider line. I have also made a light following/avoiding robot, Crabcakes (because it looks like a crab), a light seeking/avoiding headbot (a headbot is basically a robot that looks left and right for light, and locks on to the brightest light it can see. And vise versa for the light avoiding setting) named Hal Ninethousandth, because it has a single red eye in the middle of it that looks like Hal's, and is much simpler (hence, Hal Nine-thousandth!), a mini sumo robot (still under construction, as in, electrical failure and mechanical falure... ), and I am currently working on a small object avoiding robot named, uhh... I don't know yet, (and no, that's not its name). And I will have information on all of them shortly. Please stand by...

• May. 21, 2007 - Today...

Okay, well, today nothing really cool happened... I went over to one of my friends houses while mom and Madison went somewhere. And, I just got home, we were trying to get the bolts off the back left wheel on the bug, and no matter what we do, THEY WON'T COME OFF! We tryed attaching a long 2x4 to the lugwrench and turning it for more leverage, AND IT WOULDN'T BUDGE! It turned about 90 degrees and didn't move! So now we are looking at finding an impact wrench. So, that's about it... See ya!

• May. 20, 2007 - Da' lowdown...

Okay, I'm going to tell you all that has happened this year since I stopped using my blog... So, I am still into robotics, we are homeschooled, I now have longer hair (some might consider it a "skater cut"), I played acoustic guitar for about half a year, and recently started playing bass guitar (as in, a month ago. And it's electric!), had an extreme case of pnemonia and have fully recovered, recently turned 13 in March, we bought a bug (the car kind) and we are fixing it up, and today we took the front fenders off, drained out the old oil, and I think dad flushed it out, and started using my blog again! TADA! Phew... Bye!

• May. 19, 2007 - I'M BACK!!!

HELLO EVERYONE! I IS BACK! Hi. After about a year, I am now using my blog again! And I have made many more robots. So, yay... See ya' around! (oh, yeah. I'M 13 NOW!)

• May. 7, 2006 - Robots Here...Robots There!

Hi! My name is Austin (I'm 12 years old), and my hobby is robotics. The kind of robots I make are called "B.E.A.M." robots. B.E.A.M. stands for Biology, Electronics, Aesthetics, and mechanics. To be able to create a robot, you must know a variety of things, like some basic components and what they do, ("E" for electronics) how to make them work together to complete a certain task, how to make it move and to make a frame, ("M" for mechanics), etc.

One of my creations is an object avoiding robot named Alfred. It uses a PCB (printed circuit board) for a body and for connecting the electronic components. Two short antenna serve as the bump sensors. When one gets pushed it turns on a relay switch which, for a limited time, makes the right motor reverse. That makes it spin around then keep going forward. Here is a picture of it below.

I also have a robotics design kit called a VEX. The storebought price is $300.00 at Radio Shack. It's only sold there, but I got it half price because Radio Shack was having a half off sale before they moved. Anyway, I have built about 20 different versions, the pictures below being the most recent one.

It has a large jaw that can open and closed via the remote controle. It is like a large metalic "head". And the "neck" movement ( forward and back ) can also be controled by the remote controle.
