Older posts...UPDATED

Posted in This N That

Hi all,
I was browsing our blog the other day and looking at all the pictures of our little ones....they've all grown so much since last Fall. Anyway, I noticed that there are some GREAT articles that were posted soon after our blog was created. (I'm assuming Leigh posted them????) If you scroll down the page, on the Iright side you'll see the page numbers. These articles are mostly on pages 4 and 5.

I had David add Categories to the sidebar! Woo hoo! So now you can click on the category you want!

Lots of awesome ideas, encouragement and info.

-Megan

Homeschool Approach and Curriculum Site

Posted in This N That

Hi everyone! (from Leigh)

I know that Kathy is interested in researching different approaches and curriculum choices.  I just discovered an excellent site to do that.  They give you are quiz to discover what might work best for your family, then offers suggestions for different curriculum.  I really enjoyed looking over this site and think you will too.

Click on either the quiz, or the guide to approaches...

Social time

Posted in This N That

I am wanting some feedback from other homeschooling mothers about social time for my son. My son is so social and loves to meet and be around other people. I am concerned that he is not getting his social needs met. Does anyone have any suggestions on this matter? I am not thinking that public school is the alternitive in any way for me. I am thinking that my son needs something and I am not sure what it is. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Sundy

Service Project

Posted in This N That

Since our group decided not to meet in December, we have had a couple of chances to get together.  One was a field trip to the Burke Museum, and the other was a service project at a local nursing home.

We hosted a craft and brought treats for the residents.  We made glass bead magnets.  The kids had a great time, as did some of the residents.  A few of the residents were not fond of having the kids there, but it turned out well for the most part.

The kids loved the table with the dancing Santas!

Polar Express anyone??

Posted in This N That

Hi Everyone,

I (Julie) just noticed that the local theater is playing Polar Express a few times this week: Wed the 28th @7:30 and Sat the 1st @10am & 1pm (I think).  If anyone else's kids want to see this let me know, it would be fun for the kids to do together.  (If you haven't seen it, there is a few parts that may be scary for some kids).  It may be a good father/son thing to do?? Let me know what you think.

Are you B-U-S-Y?

Posted in This N That
Satan called a worldwide convention of demons.

In his opening address he said,

"We can't keep Christians from going to church."

"We can't keep them from reading their Bibles and knowing the truth."

"We can't even keep them from forming an intimate relationship with their savior."

"Once they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over them is broken."

"So let them go to their churches; let them have their covered dish dinners, BUT steal their time, so they don't have time to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ.."

"This is what I want you to do," said the devil: "Distract them from gaining hold of their Savior and maintaining that vital connection throughout their day!"

"How shall we do this?" his demons shouted.

"Keep them busy in the non-essentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds," he answered.

"Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow."

"Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles."

"Keep them from spending time with their children."

"As their families fragment, soon, their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of work!"

"Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice."

"Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive."

"To keep the TV, VCR, CDs and their PCs going constantly in their home and see to it that every store and restaurant in the world plays non-biblical music constantly"

"This will jam their minds and break that union with Christ."

"Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers."

"Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day."

"Invade their driving moments with billboards."

"Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products, services and false hopes.."

"Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines and TV so their husbands will believe that outward beauty is what's important, and they'll become dissatisfied with their wives. "

"Keep the wives too tired to love their husbands at night."

"Give them headaches too! "

"If they don't give their husbands the love they need, they will begin to look elsewhere."

"That will fragment their families quickly!"

"Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching their children the real meaning of Christmas."

"Give them an Easter bunny so they won't talk about his resurrection and power over sin and death."

"Even in their recreation, let them be excessive."

"Have them return from their recreation exhausted."

"Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on God's creation. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, plays, concerts, and movies instead."

"Keep them busy, busy, busy!"

"And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences."

"Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from Jesus."

"Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause."

"It will work!"

"It will work!"

It was quite a plan! The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing Christians everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and there.

Having little time for their God or their families.

Having no time to tell others about the power of Jesus to change lives.

I guess the question is, has the devil been successful in his schemes?

You be the judge!!!!!

The Meaning Behind 'Roots and Wings'

Posted in This N That
Lately, there has been the chorus to a song rolling around my head. I decided to look up the lyrics and it seems to work well for my dreams for our children. I hope you enjoy it!

'Find Your Wings' by Mark Harris

It’s only for a moment
that you are mine to hold
the plans that heaven has for you
will all to soon unfold
So many different prayers I’ll pray
for all that you might do
but most of all I’ll want to know
your walking in the truth
and If I’ve never told you
I want you to know
As I watch you grow

(chorus)
I pray that God will
fill your heart with dreams
and that faith gives you the courage
to dare to do great things
I’m here for you
whatever this life brings
So Let my love give you roots
and help you find your wings

May passion be the wind
that moves you through your days
And may convictions keep you strong
guide you on your way
may there be many moments
that make your life so sweet
but more than memories

It’s not living
if you don’t reach for the sky
I’ll have tears as you take off
But I’ll cheer as you fly

I will give you roots
And I will help you find your wings

OK, ladies, let's give this a try instead of the bulletin board!  We can all post what we want to here.  I have pulled pretty much everything from the old board.
