Living in southern Alabama, trying to be a good wife and mother. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/1blessedsouthernmama/ en-us Homeschool Blogger Sun, 30 Sep 2007 06:39:00 -0500 Sun, 30 Sep 2007 06:39:00 -0500 Tracy over at THE HOMESCHOOL BOUTIQUE is giving away free T-shirts.  She has a great little store.  Her shirts are too cute!  Be sure to check it out and show your support to a fellow homeschool mama! http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/1blessedsouthernmama/400111/ Sun, 30 Sep 2007 06:39:00 -0500 http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/1blessedsouthernmama/400111/ With the price of gas and the heat wave we've been having lately, I like to get my groceries and that weeks supply and get home ASAP.  I usually get my sales papers in the mail on Wednesdays.  On Thursday I sit down and plan my menu around what's on sale.  Friday, we head to Walmart with the sales flyers in hand.  They price comp everything.  There's no need to go running from store to store.  Not many people know but the Family Dollar store does it also.  Usually on Fridays I make a stop at a local thrift shop near Walmart.  I went today and got the boys some Winter clothes. ( I know the heat index in Mobile today was 108 and I was buying Winter clothes).  This thrift store has different color tags on their items.  Each week 3 colors are discounted 30%,50%, or 70%.  Today I hit the jackpot.  I got each boy about 5 long sleeve shirts each.  The most I paid for one is 58 cents.  I got Matt 2 pairs of jeans for under 1.50 each.  I got Chandler 4 pair for the same price.  I am now watching out for Matt a good pair of boots and they'll be set for the Winter.  I also found them a neat shelf for their room for only 99 cents.  It's going to be great for their hotwheels.  Anyways I just wanted to share some ways that I try to be frugal! http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/1blessedsouthernmama/371448/ Fri, 10 Aug 2007 19:18:00 -0500 http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/1blessedsouthernmama/371448/ All day today I have been working on our schedules and plans for the new school year.  I am so excited about this year.  The boys are so excited too.  My 8 year old will be doing 3rd grade and I'm doing preschool with my 4 year old. (he'll be 4 next monday)  I am doing a sort of spin off of the letter of the week.  Last year I bought the boys an electronic states game.  He loves it, so I'm going to teach him  where all the states are located and the capitals.  My 8 year old will be learning this with us but I plan on adding the names of that week's states to his spelling list.  It was so funny tonight while my 4yr old was watching the weather channel with his daddy. LOVE, MOM http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/1blessedsouthernmama/369671/ Tue, 7 Aug 2007 19:50:00 -0500 http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/1blessedsouthernmama/369671/ Tiany over at Less of Me~More of Him is hosting a HomeSchool Open House.  Be sure to check it out!  http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/tiany Our homeschool journey began 2 years ago.  I had sent my oldest son to public school for his pre-k, kindergarten, and 1st grade year.  I used to get notes from the teachers almost daily saying he was talking too much and acting rowdy.  What 6 year old boy isn't rowdy.  When I asked him about the talking he said he was just asking questions.  Public school teachers do not have time to answer 30 kids questions so he started falling behind in school. I did alot of praying and research and I decided to that since I was spending so much time at the school and the teachers obviously didn't care if he got it or not.  The best thing I could do was bring him home where he belongs.  This past year was our first year and what a blessing it was.  I now know why I couldn't decide what kind of career that I wanted to pursue when I graduated.  God already chose my career.  I feel that I am fulfilling my calling from God.  I'm just sorry that it took 3 years of public school to figure it out.  We are eclectic homeschoolers.  We use whatever works.  This year I'm also going to begin schooling our 4 year old.  He is so excited about it.  Sometimes I still feel like I'm not able to teach them like they need to be taught but I know that's just the devil telling me that.  My children are right where they belong.  At home, right where God wants them to be. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/1blessedsouthernmama/366554/ Wed, 1 Aug 2007 19:18:00 -0500 http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/1blessedsouthernmama/366554/
