What Obsolete Skill Am I???

I keep finding these great little quizzes at www.quizzilla.com . Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to paste my results here. Big surprise lol. I try and when I don't get it in the first time or two I give up. Patience is NOT one of my virtues :P So I'm just going to type up myself the results. I wasn't surprised by them haha.

Yes I am independent but I don't think it's necessarily in a good way. I hate asking for help...with anything. I don't want to "bother" someone. Besides, when I was married I was used to if I wanted something done or fixed it was do it myself or it didn't get done...even when you're nine months pregnant.

I am extremely logical captain I knew I have these Spock ears of mine for a reason :D. Just the facts ma'am. I'm a tell-it-like-it-is kind of girl. If you want sympathy you're coming to the wrong place. It's not that I'm UNsympathetic. It's just that sympathy doesn't solve a whole lot of problems. I see things in black and white. Shades of gray are very rare. I'm kind of like Judge Judy but smarter ;)

I don't think I'm obsolete. Maybe shoved in a corner, but there....steady, quietly carrying on.

What Kind of Homeschooler Am I???

I apparently qualify as an unschooler. I tolerate textbooks as a last resort(say for math!), mud is my friend(with 5 boys whod'a thunk it?) and I prefer hands-on for everything. I think that sums me up pretty well I always thought school was sooooo boring. I love to learn. I just hated school. As Albert Einstein said "I tried not to let school get in the way of my education." Rock On Albert!! I have the 1942 Red Cross book of Home Nursing. I love to read that. It's soooo interesting. I realize medicine has come a long way but good old fashioned health and hygiene don't. This book describes in detail how to deliver a baby, make an incubator if the baby is small, etc... Did you know back then most children were potty trained before they were 1 years old?!?!?! Now if you told me I HAD to sit down and study this book, reading so many pages a day, tests, blah blah blah I'd probably HATE the book.lol. Maybe I didn't hate school. Maybe I hated being told what to do So many things I want to do before this life is over and so little time. I'd love to learn about cars. I know NOTHING about how they work. Maybe the boys and I can buy a junker and figure it out. I want to deliver a baby. I just don't think there could be anything cooler than that!! I thought I was going to have to talk my friend Kelly through the delivery of my last child he came so fast lol. I want to learn how to knit. I used to know a little bit but I've forgotten. I made soap once with lye. It was fun. I'd like to do more of that. I'd love to live on a mini farm and have some animals. I'd like to deliver animals too I'd learn how to play the violin and cello. I'd like to learn how to draw and paint. I can't draw a straight line with a ruler! I'd like to build a log cabin, butcher an animal, shoot a gun, sew more(ok I guess I need a sewing machine for that first), write poems, oh and if I could do ANYTHING I wanted in the whole wide world....I'd take off and land F-16's on an aircraft carrier. That would be the biggest rush! Ok I'm sure I'll never get to do that but a girl can dream can't she?!?!?

On Counting Your Blessings and Friendship

Last Friday I was an hour and a half from home picking my boys up at school. My van decided to break down My ex wasn't going to be home from work until midnight. I couldn't even have my parents come pick us up because even with two vehicles there wasn't enough room for all of us. But there are so many blessings to be thankful for!

1. My 3yods was with my parents so I wasn't having to deal with keeping him entertained.

2. My breakdown could've happened in the nearby city where I could've caused an accident.

3. A very nice man(I forgot to get his name!) stopped to help and nursed my van to my ex's house a couple of blocks away.

4. A very dear man who is a genius with vehicles came to look at it after putting in a 14 hour workday. He didn't have to return my phone call, he could've gone home and relaxed. But he is such a generous person he came to help. He couldn't quite put his finger on it but he was on the right track.

5. He didn't mind my ds-7 asking a bazillion questions. He even showed him the "flux capacitator"

6. He offered me and the 5 children with me a place to stay for the night since the van was not driveable. He's not only a genius...he's insane

7. My dear friend Robin F. drove 20 minutes at 12:30 in the morning to pick me and dd-16 up to spend the night at her house. We watched Sister Act II and had a slumber party. It was fun to be a "girl" again lol

8. The next day she drove me back to where my van was so I could get what I needed out of it then drove us an hour and a half home!!!

9. She offered to come pick me up and drive me back up there when the van is repaired(it's in the shop up there).

10. I live in town. I can walk to the grocery store, Dollar General, the library, etc... We usually walk anyway.

I really feel like in this whole situation I have much more to be thankful for than to complain about. Mostly that I have been blessed with two dear friends. Often I feel so guilty that they always seem to be doing something for me and I never get to "pay them back". I know they don't expect it. It would just be nice to be able to do something for them once. I've never had a lot of friends. Maybe several acquaintances. Making a good friend is not easy for me. I'm not that outgoing(I know some will chuckle at that but I'm really not!) True friends who you allow to know you as well as you know yourself are hard to come by...the ones who've seen you at your best and your very worst, and love you anyway. My hat is off and many humble thanks to Toby and Robin
