ADHD DIET

This diet is copyrighted and not for distribution without the permission of the writer.

The diet that follows has helped in the following areas: Lack of concentration, a tendency to disturb other children, emotional instability: daily or hourly mood swings, disorders of speech and hearing, temper tantrums, impatience, difficulty waiting, extreme distractibility, forgetfulness, absentmindedness, inability to finish tasks, difficulty solving problems or managing time, low tolerance for stress and otherwise ordinary problems, learning disabilities, a tendency to become frustrated quickly, an inability to sit still for any length of time, even at mealtimes, sleep disturbances, failure in school despite above average intelligence. (All of these have been managed with my own experience) This takes time and commitment. Remember that even though your child may have this sensitivity that does not excuse them from discipline. They need to know that they are responsible for their actions. As they become older they have the choice to choose thing they should not eat, but the will react. There are always consequences for our actions!

*Include in the diet all fruits and vegetables (except for those containing salicylates, listed below)
*Breads, cereals and crackers that contain only rice and oats.
*REMOVE from the diet all forms of refined sugar and any products that contain it.
*REMOVE from the diet all foods that contain artificial coloring, artificial flavors, or preservatives.
*REMOVE all processed and manufactured foods.
*REMOVE all foods that contain natural salicylates. INCLUDING: almonds, apples, apricots, cherries, currants and all berries, peaches, plums, prunes, tomatoes, cucumbers and oranges.
*Do not consume any of the following: apple cider vinegar, bacon, butter, candy, catsup, chocolate, colored cheeses, chili sauce, corn, ham, hot dogs, luncheon meat, margarine, meat loaf, milk, mustard, pork, salami, salt, soft drinks, soy sauce, sausage, tea, and wheat.
*Do not use antacid tablets, cough drops, perfume, throat lozenges, or commercial toothpaste. Use natural toothpaste.
*AVOID carbonated beverages which contain large amounts of phosphates. Phosphate additives can increase exaggerated muscle activity (hyperkinesis).
*Use an elimination diet to identify foods that may be causing or aggravating symptoms.
