Quaiden

It was Quaiden who stood at my brother's side during the tumultuous years of the war--in fact, the two were together on each side of the conflict. Quaiden's fierce loyalty brought him to a position of high honor amongst the rebels, but, with Cael's denunciation, he quickly came around and gained equal success in the ranks of our army. He is characterized by his smile--his cheerful personality never fails to balance Cael's moodiness.

Quaiden was born in a small town in Kent. Raised a farmer, he left home at a young age to seek elsewhere for a livlihood. He fell in with Densalen, and in his naivety his energy was quickly channeled towards the revolution.

He serves now as a soldier of Alondae. Soon I hear he shall be promoted to captain of the garrison--Gavin is only too pleased to have such a man as commander of our troops.

Rhydian

Located southeast of Alondae, near the foothills of the Landis Mountains, Rhydian has always been a hive of industry, filth, and war. It prides itself on producing nearly three quarters of the weaponry of Eordain--although the city itself is ill-suited for battle. The walls have long been in disrepair, and Cael tells me the people would bow to an imposter before openly resisting him.

Since the rule of my husband, Rhydian has somewhat reformed itself. The king has paid out of his own pocket for the walls to be rebuilt, and measures have been taken to care for the orphans who previously lived openly in the streets. Govind says that soon the city that furnished the war will be a picture of prosperity!

Cael promises to take me there one day. He has seen it often, in dark times, and I myself have been within its boundaries once, although my errand that day was far too grave to allow for pleasure. Soon my brother and I shall return there in times of peace, to live again the memories of days gone by.

Alondae

Alondae is the place of my birth, and the capitol of our land. It lies to the west of the Landis Mountains, so that, in the mornings, the rising sun strikes it in its fully beauty. Some have called it "the city of gold," for it is the central power of Eordain, and the home of the king.
The city is large and walled, and the castle sits on the eastern side of it, surrounded by two courtyards. Alondae is strongly fortified--only once has it stood seige, and it prevailed until all hope had vanished. The city is now once more in noble hands, and no one doubts that it shall remain there.
Here, in the inlands, the tradesmen are many, and Alondae has her share of weavers, bakers, and tailors. The people have grown fond of this lifestyle; they prefer being dependent on no one, rather than dwell in the country and forge a living from herds of sheep. Since the end of the war I have made myself comfortable in the town. I enjoy walking amongst the shops and speaking with the children--it endears me to my subjects, and sobers my mind to the task before me.

Sir Caedmon

Six years ago, the name "Caedmon" was all but unknown in the castle--my brother prefers his pet name, Cael, to the more formal title which was bestowed upon him at birth. Now, however, as a nobleman and the nearest relative of the queen, he has again taken up his name--although I continue to call him Cael when I we are alone!

Cael was born seventeen years ago, but I do not have memories of our childhood together until he was two and I four. He is a horseman at heart, and delights in presenting me with the finest horseflesh Eordain has to offer. It is a habit of ours to ride every morning, when the sun creeps over the mountains and the countryside is at its finest.

Nor can I mention my brother without speaking of his skill with the blade. He wields his sword left-handed, and his old tutor, Master Renfred, says that as such he has an advantage, for many men are unprepared to face a left-handed opponent. He does not prefer fighting, however--he tells me he has seen too much of it, and with that I agree. Cael is young, but he has lived and fought through the bloodiest year in Eordain's history. He stands today as one of the saviors of our country, and professes he will never bear the sword in battle again. I feel that he is right, for since the terrible war we have known peace beyond that I ever could have imagined.

Lady Muriel

As you know, I am Muriel, Lady of Alondae and Queen of Eordain. I have resided here at the castle all my nineteen years; I am the youngest queen to sit on the throne in all our country's history. Beside me sits my noble king and beloved husband, Govind of Athaldain. Our marriage has allied the two countries--Eordain, large and weak, and Athaldain, small and wise. Five hundred years ago the two were one country, but it was split in a great civil war, and only now have the many promises been fulfilled, as Athaldain and Eordain are again one.

I have never considered myself queenly; in fact, it was my brother Caedmon who was to ascend the throne. But he, after the noble struggle of which I will later tell, bowed to my beloved and I as the rulers of our country, realizing that it was never his to rule after all. And so Eordain has a girl-queen--for I am not above a long ride in the valley, or a game with the children in the city. Govind tells me I must never forsake such pastimes, and I know that he speaks truth, for with his coming all wars have ceased. The terror from the south is quelled, and our countries are united. Here in Alondae, I know that all is well.
