Growing by leaps and bounds!

Well our group is growing by leaps and bounds! We have some activities in mind for November also that you wont wanna miss. Im gonna share those in tomorrows meeting. I will post an update after the meeting to let you all know the plans for the coming months. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and getting to know you all. We have had three families join the group in just this past week, for which I am really grateful. Lots of things going on this month also. Planning some field trips for next month that will be exciting for the children and parents too.We have opened a group meetup site, if you are interested in joining our group please go to meetup.com and search for us under Dexter, Missouri.

During the next week there will be a lot of local happenings that I think will be of interest to Homeschool Families in our Area.

Saturday, October 6th beginning at 3:00 p.m and ending at 6:00 p.m there will be Pioneer Day at the Dexter Heritage House. A host of old-fashioned demonstrations that will include the making of kettle corn and an apple cider press in action. There will be a washerwoman on site demonstrating the pioneer method of clothes washing, a butter-churning demonstration, an arrowhead display and a corn sheller in action. Artists will also be on hand with decorative and seasonal items for sale.The local Girl Scouts will be conducting children's games and a group of war re-enactors are also scheduled to appear. In addition, there will be live music on the grounds also. They will be offering tours of the old part of downtown dexter as well.

October 3rd, 2007- Is recognized as "Science Day" in Dexter.

Saturday, October 13th, 2007- Fall Fest-Downtown Dexter beginning at 9 a.m and ending at 5 p.m.

During the month of October we have some activities planned as follows, we would like you to be a part of these activities if you live in our area and are looking for fellowship with other homeschool families:

Planning Meeting:There will be a planning meeting held Sunday, October 7th, at 2:00 p.m at the East City Park on Highway 114 in Dexter, Mo. The meeting will last from 1-2 hours. The purpose of this meeting is to get to know one another and let the children meet and get aquainted with each other. While the children play, we moms will be planning the activities for the next few months. Please bring a notebook or other planner and a pen or pencil to take notes. Be thinking about what it is you want from this group and what you would like to see happen in the group. Each family will be given a chance to share their ideas and we will vote collectivley on them. You need to bring a snack such as cupcakes, brownies, rice crispy treats..etc, doesnt have to be anything fancy, just something to share with the kids and the parents. Also, bring something to drink to share, a jug of kool-aid or punch or Soft Drink is fine. We will furnish the plates, cups and napkins.

Bake and Yard Sale:There will be a Bake and Yard Sale around the second to third weekend in October, the purpose of this is to raise funds to help buy candy and other items for the Fall Harvest Party. If your family plans on attending the Party you must participate in this Sale. You can participate by donating items for the sale, baked goods,..etc. We ask that everything donated for the yard sale be something that we can sell, dont give something that you wouldnt buy for yourself. You can help the day of the sale, you can help by advertising, posting and handing out fliers...etc. We will announce an exact date, time and place at the Planning Meeting.

Fall Harvest Party- We will be having a Fall Harvest Get Together around the last Weekend in October. We know that some families do not celebrate Halloween, so we kept that in mind when we planned this get together. One of our members, Tanya, has graciously offered to let us hold the party in her back yard, she has a pretty big space. We would like to have a Hay Ride for the children if we can get it together, we would need donations to cover the cost of the Hay. The Celebration will be held in Senath,Missouri. We will post an exact date and time along with more details as soon as we have everything together.

Welcome to our Homeschool Group Blog. We are a newly formed homeschool group serving the Bootheel Area of Southeast Missouri. We will be using this blog in addition to our website to share pictures of our activities and just to keep you updated of whats happening within our group.
