Our little Elsa puppy. We've only had her for only 11 days and she already looks quite a bit bigger!

What are you all doing for Thanksgiving? We are going to our Grandma and Grandpa's house, along with our other Grandma, Uncle, Aunt, 4 year old cousin, and other Uncle for lunch. And I think we're bringing Elsa with. Have a wonderful day!

Young Maidens Daybook - November 8th

If you would like to join "A Young Maiden's Daybook" or see other's daybooks, please go to hskubesgal's blog! Thank you!!

Today...
Sunday, November 8th, 09 4:51pm

Outside my window..
It's pretting dark out now and 57 degress (not bad). But wow, dark at this time of day already!!

I am thinking...
About this post and the salad I am eating.

  I am thankful for...
All the blessings and health we've had!

I am wearing...
jeans and a green t-shirt

  I am reading..
  2 Corinthians & Proverbs (KJV)
16# in the original Elsie Dinsmore series (sort of, right now I'm mostly rereading the Winnie the Horse Gentler series)
"So Much More" By Anna Sofia Botkin and Elizabeth Botkin
"Blue Denim And Lace" By Dr. Jack Hyles
The Girlhood Home Companion Magazine

I am creating...
An old-time dress, a quilt. And I was doing a knitting project but I've hit a snag.

One of my favorite things...
  Bible Quizzing

   For education this week...
All regular school things, along with teaching young children (AWANA), sewing, horse riding, and probably other life skills.

A keeper at home skill I am using/learning...
I'm sewing a small quilt for Home Ec. class. I also feel like baking this week. Oh, and I'll probably be cleaning too.

A godly character trait I plan to work on...
Oh, there's so many I should work on... meekness, not being so shy but not doing all the talking either (I don't know if that will ever happen though :-) being a Godly sister and daughter...

Scripture I am memorizing...
  1Cor. 10, and keeping 1Cor 2 and 9 fresh in my memory.

I am praying for...
Prayer requests from our church, our country, and others that come up...

For the rest of the week...

Wednesday: AWANA (my mom, sister, and I do the 3-5 year olds). Friday: the long awaited day - we're getting our little Leonberger puppy!!! And I'm sure other things will arise.

A picture thought I'd like to share...
As some of you may know or have hinted from my mentions of it - our church has started a Bible Quizzing team! We memorize chapters (this year from 1 & 2 Cor. and Titus) and then every first Saturday of the month we compete against other teams. Well, last time we didn't do so well - let's just our team got 3rd place (last place) every time and I only answered two questions correctly. This time we got four 3rd places, one 2nd places, and two 1st places!! And this time I got fourteen questions answered correctly!!! Anna got five! So just to say, we are having allot more fun now!! Below is a picture of us quizzing last month, sorry, no pictures of this time.

Thank you for reading! ~Amber

Our Own Leonberger Puppy!

We are getting a puppy in two weeks!!! After our beloved Boston Terrier died two month ago (read post), mom's been searching all over for a dog - preferably a large dog to gaurd. Our top two were the Leonbergers and the Bernese Mountian Dogs. Well, we finally found a little Leonberger in our price range yesterday!!! She's still only 5 weeks old so we can make the 3 hour drive to get her in a couple weeks.

Here she is, currently she is called "Dark Green & Orange" since that is the color of nail polish they put on her nails to tell her apart from the rest. Obviously we will be finding her a better name.

This is our puppy's papa, Braveheart, or Braver. Don't you just love the name.

This is our puppy's mama, Sweetie Pie. She is from Canada.

The Leonberger is a giant breed dog with it's foundation in the Newfoundland, Great Pyrenees and Saint Bernard breeds. The breed's name comes from the city of Leonberg, Germany. According to legend, the Leonberger was bred to look like the lion in the town's crest. It is a LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog) good at pulling carts & sleds, search & rescue, enjoys water play & hikes, and surprisingly, agility. It guards with it's size, not with it's teeth and is very loyal to it's flock and family. The average female (much smaller than the male) is about 27" - 29" to the shoulder and about 130 lbs.

Excitement abounds at our house!!! We will now be busy getting ready for a big dog - a big change from our little dog!

Thank you for reading! And thanks to mom for letting me copy most of her dog post to make it easier for me!!

God Bless, Amber

It's wet and cloudy (it's been raining sooo much!) at 48 degrees.

I am thinking...
That dinner (Garden Taco Rice) is tasting good!

  I am thankful for...
That we have the hope of Jesus Christ, as things in this world get worse and worse atleast we have Jesus! Others don't!

I am wearing...
A white long sleeve shirt and a blue courdroy skirt (what I also wore to church).

  I am reading..
  1 Corinthians & Proverbs (KJV)
16# in the original Elsie Dinsmore series
"So Much More" By Anna Sofia Botkin and Elizabeth Botkin
The Girlhood Home Companion Magazine

  And a occasional "Country" magazine

I am creating...
A knitted shawl (all done with that! see post below...), an old-time dress (I really need to get working on that one - I'm borrowing the pattern! Though, I need her help on it now.), a quilt, and a belated birthday gift for a friend - sorry!

One of my favorite things...
  Good friends!

   For education this week...
All regular school things, along with teaching young children (AWANA), sewing, horse riding, and probably other life skills.

A keeper at home skill I am using/learning...
Sewing and probably other bits and peices of things.

A godly character trait I plan to work on...
Oh, there's so many I should work on... meekness, being a Godly sister and daughter...

Scripture I am memorizing...
1 Corinthians 9, and keeping 1 Cor. 2 fresh in my mind (we're part of Bible Quizzing).

I am praying for...
Unsaved family, our country, and others that come up...

For the rest of the week...

Wednesday: AWANA (my mom, sister, and I do the 3-5 year olds). Friday: nursing home, Saturday: A Harvest Celebration with friends (instead of Halloween). There may be a Bible Quizzing practice and horse lesson this week also.

A picture thought I'd like to share...
My cat "Midnight" and I reading a Country magazine - he didn't stretch out his paws like that until I turned to that page with the cat on it!

Knitting Project Complete!

I had been working long and hard on a my knitted shawl and finally finished it a few days ago!! You can find the free pattern here. It is pretty easy - all you need to know is the garter stitch and how to increase one stitch at the beginning and end. It just takes some patience to get it done!!!

Sorry, I guess that's about it! God Bless,Amber

Harvest

Potatos are my favorite vegetable to haverst. It so fun to find them hidden beneath all that dirt. And of course you have to be dressed appropriately for this - I was wearing a non to fashionable apron to keep my white top and pink skirt clean, with bare feet and my hat. Along with the tomatos the potatos did really well - producing huge ones...

A regular store bought potato is about two pounds, our biggest ones were two and a half pounds.

Then we moved on to trying to find the onions - lost in all the weeds. But they didn't do as well, we had moved our garden to a different spot because this is our 7th year of gardening and we're giving our normal spot a sabbath. So we found only one regular size onion and the rest of them we're about the same size when we planted them!! But over all it went pretty good and that day we had to wash the dirt off from our toes to our knees and our fingers to our elbows before we were presentable for lunch!

Now it's snowing....

(I'm doing two pictures in one - showing the snow and progress on our sauna building). So far whenever the snow falls it melts away again, but it probably won't be long before it sticks. And by the way, about the sauna - Dad's got the siding done on the back wall and working on the others. We've got a nice little loft, but now it's rather to cold to enjoy it! I'll post a picture that you can see more later!

Hope this is finding you all well! My sister and I are a bit sick but I'm being positive and praying we will get better quickly!

God Bless,
  Amber

Young Maiden's Daybook - August 22

If you would like to join "A Young Maiden's Daybook" or see other's daybooks, please go to hskubesgal's blog! Thank you!!

Today...
August 22, 2:00pm

Outside my window..
It's sunny with just some wispy clouds in the sky. 70 degrees

I am thinking...
about Peanut - she is not doing to well (she is 12). And also about lunch (we're having a late one because we road our horses so long!). :o)

  I am thankful for...
For the rain we had last week and that the tornado near our Grandma's house didn't actually affect her and there was no bad weather at our house.

I am wearing...
A red t-shirt and jean skirt.

  I am reading..
  Acts & Proverbs (KJV)
  A 1921 reader
"So Much More" By Anna Sofia Botkin and Elizabeth Botkin
The Girlhood Home Companion Magazine

I am creating...
A knitted shawl, an old-time dress (I really need to get working on that one - I'm borrowing the pattern!), & a quilt.

One of my favorite things...
Summer - I'm sad to see that it will be going soon!

   For education this week...
Horses and hopefully lots of sewing, pen-pal writing, and house keeping!

A keeper at home skill I am using/learning...
Sewing and probably other bits and peices of things.

A godly character trait I plan to work on...
Diligence and being bold for the Lord!

Scripture I am memorizing...
Reveiw of past verses and then hopefully choosing the next passage - but there's soooo many good ones!

I am praying for...
Peanut, for the prayer requests in our church, and to become more like Jesus.

For the rest of the week...

Monday: volunteering at the nursing home, Tuesday: Horse riding lessons and sleep over at my Grandma's, Wednesday: more time at Grandma's and come home Sunday: Vacation to WI

A picture thought I'd like to share...
Anna and I on our horses.

Thanks! ~Amber
