Garrett has a broken nose!

He joined a game of flag football last night at our church's fall party. Apparently, someone came down with a pass and got him with their elbow. I went ahead and took him to the ER because there was a lot of blood and it was swelling pretty good (even after icing it). One very expensive x-ray (and almost 2 hours) later and the verdict was a "non-displaced fracture". We're thankful that it hadn't been displaced. By that time I don't know if he could have withstood the pain of them setting and taping it!

I'm still waiting for him to wake up this morning to see how he's doing. He took a Vicodin before bed and I noticed that he didn't take the 2nd one I laid out for him. I think that's a good sign that he was able to sleep all night.

I'll keep you all posted. The Dr. is expecting some pretty good black eyes because of all the bleeding. I'll be sure and take pictures! ;-)

I don't think I'm ready for this.

Okay...I know I'm not! We signed Garrett up for the Naval Sea Cadet Corps this afternoon. http://www.seacadets.org/public/mission/

This will be a good thing for his future. He's wanting to attend university on a NROTC scholarship, and we're certain this will be a big step in that direction.

Next on the list....call the Navy recruiter! Wait.....I. can't. breathe....

This mama is not ready to let her chickies go just yet.

Everybody off the sidewalks!!!

We have a new driver in the house! Garrett (ds16) got his driver's permit today. He's excited... I'm excited.... I actually let him drive home and there was NO wailing or gnashing of teeth. LOL!! I was surprised that I was so calm. He's been pretty slow and cautious....so far!

Here in MO kids under 18 have to have a permit at least 6 mos. before they can get their license. They can get the permit at age 15, but can not get the full license until age 16. We had decided that we wanted our boys to be closer to 17 before they got their license. He'll be 17 in July. He'll qualify for his license in Dec. Not too far off the mark.

You win some, you lose some!

We lost both baseball games tonight. What a bummer!

Dylan thought he would be pitching, but he didn't. It might have made a difference tonight. We played WC and lost by 1 run. He also got hit pretty hard, by a pitch, while he was batting. The ball caught him on the ribcage up almost to the armpit. He'll definitely be sore tomorrow.

Garrett had a decent night. He caught and had some frustrating moments. Two missed foul balls that he knows he should have caught. At the plate, though, he had 2 good solid hits, 1 walk, and 1 strike-out. Not bad.....

Nolan's poor little team.....Oh MY! We were down 10-1 and thankfully got called for lightening. I just wish these coaches would remember that there are more kids on the team than their boys. And that's all I'll say about that!

Next week we have 5 games in 4 nights, and the week after that is 6 games in 5 nights. Gotta love summer time! Good thing Greg & I went to Sam's last night and stocked up on plenty of snacks for the little ones.

Memorial Day

We had a great holiday weekend! Saturday morning started out a little earlier than we had planned, though! At 6 am the tornado sirens went off. Thankfully we were already awake! Greg had been shutting the windows because of the rain, so we just had to get the kids out of bed and down to the basement. The storm didn’t last long and by 6:30 we had everyone back in bed! The rest of the day was very relaxing and uneventful.

This weekend was Promotion Sunday at church. That means the kids all get recognized and moved up to the next grade level class. Emma, especially, was excited to be moving up to Kindergarten. Or as she says, “Kindegawten.” She’ll be moving up out of the pre-school area and into “Big Kid Church”.

Sunday evening we had our annual church-wide picnic at the park. There was lots of good food and great fellowship. The kids had a blast playing on the swings and slides. I think I saw quite a bit of water being thrown around too!

Monday Greg had to work, so the kids and I just planned on staying home. It was pouring down rain most of the day anyway. Then about 2:00 some friends of ours called and invited us over. Their plans had changed because the pool party they were going to was cancelled. They were left with a lot of food and needed some help eating it.

We made it over there a little after 5. I took brownies, no-bake cookies, and a spice cake w/cream cheese frosting. They fixed hamburgers & hot dogs w/chips and a veggie tray. The other family brought strawberries and watermelon. YUM!!

I wish I had a copy of the video that was taken of the teen boys. I'll have to get someone to send it to me. They spent the better part of an hour trying to perfect a human tower. It really was hilarious! One would brace himself for the bottom, and then the rest of them would, one-by-one, jump on the previous person's back. There were 6 boys, and I think that by the time number 5 jumped on they started the moaning and yelling. LOL!! When number 6 would make the leap they usually collapsed into a heap. Hence the trying for one hour! The 2nd one up would get the most squished during the tower, then the last one would end up with a couple on top of him when they would crash.

I want to say thank you to any military families (past or present) out there! You all have sacrificed so much for the rest of the country.

Good friends

I went to my homeschool support group meeting on Tues. night. Those ladies are the best! I stayed up way too late and laughed so hard. I think my cheeks are still hurting. ;-)

Whew! Where has the time gone?

I haven't posted since Dec. 2005! ACK!!!

On Valentine's Day 2006 I surprised my dh with the news that blessing #6 was on the way! She was born in Oct. of that year. The pregnancy was definitely NOT my best. I was borderline for gestational diabetes and fought high blood pressure during the last half. I was kept busy all spring, and most of the summer, running the 3 older boys to and from baseball games and practices. Dh's work decided during that time to move to their new building. It ended up being 8 wks of 6 12-hr days a week! Egads! Although the move itself was a blessing, the timing was not. That meant I had to corral a dd (almost 2) and a ds (almost 1) all by myself at all of those games. And I wonder why I was having bp problems...hmmmmm? LOL!!

After baseball ended in July it was time for football in August. I mentioned in my last post that we play for a homeschool team. This means LOTS of traveling. The only thing that kept me going that fall was knowing how much my boys liked playing. I did miss the last couple of games because of having dd. It just got too cold to have a newborn out. The season ended in disappointment with another winless record.

Well that wraps up 2006, but what happened to 2007 you say? 6 kids (3 of them 3 and under) happened baby! LOL!! I spent most of last year just trying to keep my head above water. We opted out of basketball and baseball, but decided to go ahead with football. Unfortunately, due to poor management, the season had to end before our 1st game. There just wasn't enough money to get what was needed. Dh and I made the hard decision to pull out of the club and will be heading up our own this coming fall. We figure we can't do any worse, and hopefully will do a lot better. We have some awesome families joining us.

We joined a co-op last fall after several years off. It's a different one from where we belonged before. We miss all our old friends, but I feel this one is a better fit, school-wise. We just started back up about 3 weeks ago for the spring semester.

I think I've pretty much summed up the last 2 years. I want to talk more about our curriculum and school schedules and such, but that will have to wait until next time.

Bless you!

Should I go public?

Well, so much for posting everyday!! LOL! Life has been a wee bit overwhelming this last month!

Frankly, I'm not really sure what to write here. I haven't even publicized the fact that I have a blog. Maybe for now I'll just do this for myself. After I build my confidence I might tell people.

I took N (ds-7) to his first basketball practice of the season. He was very excited! He plays at out local YMCA. The older 2 boys are sitting this season out. They're too old to play at the Y and I didn't feel up to driving to the next town for the homeschool league. Football about did me in! I told them next year when the baby (ds-5 mos.) was bigger we'd try it.

My sister found out today that she is expecting a boy! He's due in May 2006. She said the other 2 kids (dd-8 & ds-5) were very excited!

We finally entered the modern age...we got DSL!! Dh is ecstatic! It will definitely make my "surfing" much faster. Dh said maybe it will cut my computer time down. I told him that I thought it would just give me time to look at even more in the time I had! LOL!!

I guess that's all for today. Not much happening here. In case I don't get back on here until after Christmas......Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Just beginning

This is my first entry to my first blog, ever! We'll see how it goes. It seems like all the blogs I have enjoyed have been written in very conversational, real-life style. I want to share the real me as my family sees me everyday. Scary thought!! LOL! Hopefully by doing this, I might encourage someone else, and may we grow in grace together.

Today starts week 2 of hubby being gone on business. Thankfully we are over the hump now and can start the countdown! My 2yo dd is starting to get clingy. Last night the thunderstorms woke her up. She usually sleeps right through them!

Tonight is our annual "Harvest Party" at church. Pray with me that the baby's cold clears up enough that I don't feel so guilty for taking him out in public!! I don't want to disappoint the other kids. Especially my 7yo ds. Someone gave him a Batman costume that he is so excited to wear!!

I'll close this for now; I might add more later tonight. I'll try to post something everyday if I can. I have a good book I'm reading, so I'll probably talk about that some, too.
