Steve Mercado

Steve was a husband, father, firefighter and a ball player. He had two sons named "Skylar" and "Austen" and a wife named Joviana.

He was the leader of the memorial day stickball tourney.
It was held again in honor of him and in memory of him organizeing it for all those years.

May 25th was officially named "Steve Mercado Day" in the bronx.

What can someone who never met steve say about him? I look at him and he was brave. but in the words of someone who did know steve, well here they are...

" met Steve only couple of years ago. In this brief time I saw his love of family, the quality of his leadership, his passion and integrity.
Steve was a family man. He loved his two sons, Skylar and Austin, and took great pride in watching them grow. After several years of marriage, he was still deeply in love with his wife Joviana, appreciating her intelligence, beauty and constant support. He showed love and respect towards his parents and brothers and brought them great pride.

We all know of Steve's dedication to the game of stickball. He was the President of the NY Emperors Stickball League as well as one of the best players in the game. However, his passion for the sport ran much deeper than enjoying its recreational value. Steve saw the game as a bridge between the generations; a link of the past to the present, and if he had anything to do with it, the future as well. He consistently reinforced this point in messages on the Emperors web site or printed material: "Stickball, not just a game, but a tradition." In just a couple of years since taking the position as president, Steve's integrity and commitment has brought the Emperors' league back from decline to once again be a major force in the sport (see his comments during the 2000 Memorial Day Tournament).

Steve was a firefighter, the kind of person you'd expect in that position: confident, upright, willing to go forward and meet whatever challenge he had to face. He was a strong man and it was easy to imagine him loaded with supplies to fight a fire or carrying a victim down to safety upon his broad shoulders.

On Tuesday as we watched the news about the World Trade Center, my thoughts turned to Steve. His fire company was stationed in midtown Manhattan, close enough to be at the scene soon after disaster first struck. I hoped he hadn't been on duty but after calling his friends, I learned that unfortunately this was not the case. Steve was working and his unit was among the first to have arrived.

Just after the first World Trade building collapsed, we heard reports that the left side of the stairways was lined with people going down, while on the right side, hundreds of firefighters, clad in their equipment and dripping in sweat, were running up. In the aftermath of this tragedy and as the scenes of destruction replayed on TV, I remain haunted by an image of these warriors charging up to battle a blaze of unimagined strength. I see Steve, among these heroes, helping lead the way as they tried to save as many lives as they could.

The firefighters understood they would suffer great casualties, but they ran up to do their duty. No one expected the buildings to fall. No one could conceive of the horror and destruction we have witnessed. No one anticipated the scope of the loss or the consequences we will now face.

Firefighters are known as New York's Bravest, an appropriate term. However, these qualities of courage and strength apply to their loved ones as well, families who live within the shadow of a potential tragedy. And now, for so many, that tragedy has struck.

We send our love and prayers to Steve and his loved ones as well as to the families of so many others touched by this horrific event. To the members of the greater stickball community, a prince has been lost. May Steve's integrity and commitment be remembered and reflected in our own lives.

-Mick Greene" (From Streetplay.com)

When I look at steve I feel sad and, I wish beyond all reason I could change it and turn back time... We all know that God has a reason for everything, I only wish sometimes we could see what these reason were.

We lived in a wonderful place! I loved were we lived, it was cool there, fun there, we had 9 years worth of freinds there, then 9/11 happened...

Dads work went out of buisness...

He got a new job an hour away...

We moved here...

Dont get me wrong, I can live here okay, but... Nothing... NOTHING... could ever replace our 9 years worth of freinds there.. I have freinds here though, You think 9/11 affected you? Ive got news, it affected Steve and his family A LOT more.

Dont you wish you could turn back time? I know someone (online) who lives in NY... he diddnt have anyone he knew die thank heavens... But he lived in NY!

You know what? I saw a commercial a while back that had a very good point, it said that "On 9/11 terrorists tried to change us all..." then it shows a row of houses...

then it said, "They suceeded." And it showed the same row of houses only each had the american flag hanging off of them.

It may sound odd, but the commercial was right.

9/11 changed all of us...
It affected all of us...
It made some of us angry...
Some of us scared...
Some of us worse than others...
But it changed all of us...
Dont say it diddnt affect you...
You may not even know it...
But it did...
Weather it made your best freind move away...
Or killed your dad in an explosian...
Maybe some of you knew someone there? ...
I say on 9/11 give your freind or whoever it is you know that saw it happen a call...
If you dont know anybody...
Maybe just give your Mom and Dad a hug? ...
Because y'know, 9/11 cant change us for the better...
Unless we let it.

This has been a message about 9/11 for 2996

In memory of the one who tradmarked the word "Crikey!"

You live in a cave? If not, hopefully you heard about Steve Irwin, A.K.A. The Crocidile Hunter. You could also know him as that famous guy who say "Crikey!" Way to much.
Yesterday he died while rideing a sting ray. Normally they are nice enough creatures. But in a freak accident, while he was rideing on the back of a stingray, The stingray was startled, stinging him, right in the heart. Normally a sting can hurt you, but the only way a ray can kill you is by a sting in the heart. Thats right, Monday, September 3'rd 06' Steve Irwin died.

Why did steve do the things he did? Some may say he wanted to die, I think, He was a guy who thought that A normal life like we all live, was just not enough, he wanted danger, he wanted excitment, he wanted to die haveing more adventure per day, than most of us have in our lifetime. Did he want to die? No. I think not. Was he brave? Yes. Will his memory live on for many years to come? Well, lets all hope so.

No, I'm not going to say "Just Kidding!" or "NOT!" at the end of this post, I only wish I could... Let us all remeber Steve the Croc' Hunter as more than just the guy on TV that say "Crikey!" Too much, let us remember a man braver than most of us could ever hope to be. Was he crazy? Maybe a little. Was he funny? At times. But you know what? Steve did things that we should all remember, being brave, being a person who wasnt afraid of death. Maybe as christians we all have somehting to learn from Steve. No, he wasnt christian. (I dont think he was at least.) but he wasnt afraid of death, and so, had the power to live life, maybe us christians should realise death is nothing to fear, and in doing so, realise that the purpose of life, as much as it is talked about and wondered about, is very simple when you think about it... Live your life for god, and jesus.

Steve, I hope you know were thinkin' about you here. so Steve Irwin, The Crocidile Hunter, lets all give you a big hearty, "Crikey!" and say, Farewell.

A sign that summer is here...

Its hot. I have schoolwork... My brain say "No No! It must be a bad dream that you have school. Its WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to hot to be schooltime. So just procrastinate because its summer break because its to hot not to be.... Got it?" So now I'm probably going to get into trouble because I cant get my body to do school work because my brain and body are on summer break mode, A.K.A. the mode where I slouch around doing nothing and have fun doing it. So basically this is what my brain

is thinking whenever I try doing school, Anyway I do have a serious problem, my brain does this the minute it thinks its summer break, See my problem?
The Best Game in the Know, And Unknown universe *Spoiler warning!* (Now with 20% bigger titles!)

Well I just beat KH2. Hmm? Whats that? The sequel to KH and KH:CoM.
YOU DONT KNOW WHAT KINGDOM HEARTS IS!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Its only the best game ever!

Spoilers start here.
Sora, (Sky) Riku, (Land) And Kairi (Ocean) are best freinds on a island. They want to leave. Go to other worlds... And best of all do this all together. One night there is a strange storm... A giant cloud shows up over the island and strange cretures called Heartless appear...

As Sora enters the secret place Kairi stands there and says "Sora..." She then falls and dissapears. As Sora runs to find Riku riku is standing and tempts Sora telling him to give up and surrender to darkness. When he says no Riku dissapears. A giant hearts called Darkside appears! Hope seems lost as Soras puny wooden sword does nothing, but then a mysterious Blade appears in his hand... Shaped like a Key... After a battle with Darkside Sora somehow teleports to another world known as Traverse town... Where some.. Familiar faces are looking for the Keyblade.
As you travel to various worlds you eventualy find yourself at Hollow Bastion. Maleficent is ruling the heartless... with a familiar face by her side!

With Riku at her side, she seems unstoppable... but her power grows when it turns out Riku is the true weilder of the keyblade! He takes it from Sora, giveing him his old wooden sword back and leaving. however, things get even worse when Donald and Goofy follow Riku! they were commanded to follow the key... and they are going to do, just that. left with nothing, and no way off of the world, Sora seems as though he will give up... But when the situation looks worst, Beast comes! He encorages Sora not to give up! and he does just that! When he finds Riku, Riku almost kills him... But goofy Blocks Rikus blow with his sheild!
You want to see the REST of the best story in a game ever? BUY IT! Hey, KH was the main reason I bought my PS2, I have other games on it mind you but still, I think that it was a good buy ;)
heres my final rateing for the game:

Gameplay: 9/10
In most aspects its fun and challengeing, but the camera can be hard to use at times.

Graphics: 7/10-10/10
The graphics of the ending and begining of the game are beyond simply good, the rest of them? Err, not AS good.

Story: 10/10
Flawless, the man who wrote this script and plot should be given every honor know to man!

Soundtrack: 10/10
Great music accomponeys a great game!

Length: 9/10
Great game, the only complaint I have is that some of the levels could have been a bit longer.

Biggest up:
Oh where to begin, there are so many good points to this game, I would have to go with replay and/or collect everything value. there are 4 optinal bosses, NOT includeing the MANY in the hades cup, plus, if you can collect the ultima weapon, it proves that you have no life.
Replay value? Well, I bought this game a very long time ago, several years in fact, I still play it to this day.

Biggest down:
Unlike biggest up its easy to pick this one, KH has many many great aspects. everything in it is great, except for one thing.
The gummy ship. you would think it would be fun to customize your own ship and travel from world to world right? wrong. the horrible way shooting plays out, the tedious repetative paths, biggest up? Try and lose. Its HARD. Luckily pretty early on, it becomes an option to warp from world to world and flying is a thing of the past :D

Bottom line:
10/10 In all aspects KH seems to be trying and to make up for the gummy ship, I would say they suceeded. Wonderful charicters, Deep plot, Unforrgettable enemies, all come together to make a game beyond simply good, its a rare and beautiful thing when a game succeeds and brings you not only good, but fantastic game.

Stay tuned for my next reveiw of a game until next time heres grundo, signing off :)
