What's going on so far

Basically we started over with our studies, because we moved in April only to move again last month. We are in North Carolina now. I love it here, btw.
We are still doing Alpha Omega lifepacs for all subjects except Math. Alex is currently working at an 8th grade level. I have decided to do ALEKS.com for math and so far, so good. Alex seems to enjoy it.
Alex turned 14 last weekend! How fast they grow. He has already made new friends in the neighborhood and some of them where able to come to his impromtu birthday party.

He didn't think it was gonna be a good day, because we are so far away from family and friends but he had a blast!
I was able to surprise him with a video camara, so watch out You-tube, lol.
Oh yea, I also realized we are not classified as Unschoolers - more on that later.............

WoW! 2008!

Where has the time gone?
We started 8th grade work this week. Only yesterday, I was teaching Alex his ABC's & teaching him how to spell his name with refrigerator magnets.
I was so amazed when he could count to 5 & spell A-L-E......Gosh! It's gone by so fast. It's like I blinked and 10 years later.
Thank God I was able to video tape him a few times over the years & I have boxes of pictures of his first 5 years. I don't know why I tapered off with the picture taking after that.
He was such a darling, sweet, cuddly baby & toddler. His checks would be soooo soft when he would first wake up, I would just hold him and cuddle him. I can't do that anymore but every once in a while he'll ask me for a hug & I relish it.
The next time I think I'm gonna pull my hair out because he won't pay attention to his lesson or he's complaining about doing his work, I'll take a break and come read this to remind me of that sweet precious bundle of joy. LOL
To 2008! May it be a blessed year!

Myths About Explorers
Most people think ...
... Christopher Columbus discovered America.
In fact, the Vikings, led by Leif Ericson, were the first Europeans to land on the coast of North America in the year 1000. Christopher Columbus landed on the island of San Salvador in 1492, thinking he had reached the East Indies.
... Ferdinand Magellan was the first to sail around the world.
In fact, he was dead before the voyage was over. Magellan set sail from Spain in 1519 with five ships and 270 men and was killed in a fight with the natives of Macatan Island in the Pacific Ocean in 1521. In 1522, one of his ships, with 18 original crewmen, completed the journey.
... Phineas Fogg traveled around the world in 80 days.
In fact, he was an imaginary character in a Jules Verne novel, Around the World in Eighty Days. Nellie Bly, an American journalist, accepted a challenge to go around the world in fewer than 80 days. In 1889, she made the journey in 72 days.

... Charles Lindbergh was the first to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.

This Teenager is Driving Me Crazy!

Some days it's great, he's so attentive & right on with his work, then ...........................................
Yesterday, I actually told my husband that I was gonna wring that little boy's neck. I mean that figuratively, of course. I would never intentionally hurt my son.
This morning, I told him all he had to do today was read the next chapter of 'The Outsiders', which is his latest book assignment. I didn't get, "Yes, Ma'am" or even "Alright" - I got, "well, can't I just read half of it because a chapter is so long & it's so boring now." When he read the last chapter, last week he said it was actually getting interesting. Go figure! Ugh!
My husband is home today, so I think I'm going to let Daddy take over. Just the threat of it usually works. LOL
I guess it's just a typical Monday. Just needed to vent, now have to go 'Deal'
