Amber Steffen has been advocating for orphans for a long time. She has shared her artistic abilities with LSM on a number of important projects, and we are delighted that she has agreed to work for LSM on a part-time basis. Below, Amber reveals why the cause of orphans stirs her heart:

Bob Pierce, a well‐known missions leader prayed, “Let my heart be broken by the things that break God’s heart.” That’s a huge plea, especially in understanding the pain these facts open your eyes to:

Most children under the age of fifteen are…

Sleeping on concrete beds and rancid garbage piles every night
Trafficked and sold into sexual bondage, some as young as five
Victimized by HIV/AIDS-infected men who believe sleeping with young virgins can cure the disease
Executed by local businessmen and officials who view them as a dirty pests interfering with trade
Robbed of childhoods; Robbed of self esteem; Robbed of innocence; Robbed of hope

If God calls us to give our lives for those who have less than we do, I think we’ve found them. They’re in the orphans who live those stats you just read. They’re in the widow who’s trying to raise 6 kids on less than $1 per day. Matthew 25 says, “When you’ve done it unto the least of these my brethren, you’ve done it to me.”

Orphan Sunday

On November 8, 2009, the Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) is calling churches all across America to rediscover their call to care for orphans. The event is called Orphan Sunday. CAFO has developed a website (www.orphansunday.org) that is loaded with helpful resources and ideas for hosting an Orphan Sunday event in the local church. The signature event on Orphan Sunday will be a concert from Steven Curtis Chapman and Geoff Moore that will be web-streamed live into venues all across the country. CAFO’s goal is to see 1,000 Orphan Sunday events on November 8. You can check out the website to see events taking place in your area.

Loving Shepherd Ministries is one CAFO partner that is working to equip churches to host a successful Orphan Sunday event. By providing no-cost consulting and resources to churches wanting to host an Orphan Sunday event, we are answering the call to bring orphan care back to near the center of the Church’s identity. Well just as I expected...

The little fellow did not make it till morning. He was alive at 2.00 am, but at 7.00 am he was not. Miriam cried a bit and then so did Abigail, cause she does everything her big sister does! But then I talked a bit to them and told them that we did our best and that he was just TO young and TO tiny. But he was better off then having to fight and struggle for alot of his life, besides he would just turn out to become an UGLY thing when he got bigger!

It made them laugh a bit and then they were a bit better after while. I put him in a little baby food jar and let them keep him. They look at him some and say..."Sorry little fella we did the best we could for you!"

Well have a great night and hopefully this will be one of many exciting adventures here on our new Farm!!!

Miriam {my 9 year old} went to feed the dogs & chickens down at the barn today and this is what she found...

Does anyone know what it is??? It IS alive, by the way!

...Give up??? Well we got on-line and looked it up, we thought it was a mole. But it isn't then we looked up...ready? Opossum! Can you believe it? This cute TINY, {it is only about an inch and a half, two inches max!!!} thing will grow up to be an ugly old Opossum! If it lives, that is.

Miriam {my 9 yr.old} wants to keep it and try to raise it, as a kinda science project. I have kept it warm and snuggled all day and tried to dropper feed it water, but one of the places we looked on line said it needed electrolytes but I do not have any, but then just now another website said do NOT give it water or anything, it is probably in shock and may die if you do! Well to late for that one. I didn't know that till about 5 minutes ago. I will keep it warm and let it sleep and see if it is still alive in the morning, sure is a cute tiny bugger!!!

Well I'll let y'all know what becomes of the little fella, ugly as they become, sure hope he makes it! Well Good Night to All.

A late start...

We just started school on Monday and still we were a bit slow this week! We are trying to finish getting our new home in order and unpacked! It is a bit hard with two 1 year olds, a 9 yr.old and a VERY...independent 4 yr. old. 2 dogs, 7 chickens and 4 stray cats! {And a partridge in a pear tree!!! LOL}

But I am excited about school this year! More so than any other year, I think mainly because of our new home, raising my 1 year old grandson, Roy and I planning on getting married in a month, us taking foster parenting classes to foster & adopt other children as well, {praying God will also allow me to get pregnant 1 more time at least} and my walk getting closer with God, than ever before!!!!

Yesterday my baby, Esther, turned 1. We do not usually do much on their first birthday's, because Roy says that they will not remember it and money is VERY tight right now. Plus he had to go to work at 1:30 yesterday and had to take our laundry to the laundry mat because our washer is still in storage, and we had no clean clothes. I am thankful though that he did the laundry!!! Alot of men would not even help do the laundry! And he even folded and hung what was needed!

"Keepers of the Faith"

We are firm proponents of "Better Early Than Late"! There is only so much time in which to teach our children, and every minute of it is precious. The sooner they can read, the sooner they can read the Word of God! Children love to learn at early ages! Some people think of teaching preschoolers as simply trying to uncomfortably force feed concepts that a young mind is not ready to grasp. Nothing could be further from the truth. Things may go a little slower, but children of all ages love achievement, and it makes the education experience so much more enjoyable than "playing catch-up."

All the little ones want to have school just like their older siblings. They are happily reading, learning phonics, adding numbers, working on projects, putting puzzles together, and are generally kept busy learning. One was writing her numbers and letters while still two, and adamant about being able to have school with her older siblings every day. One four-year- old competently sewed her own skirt on her mommy’s machine. Her mother put the sewing machine pedal on a footstool so she could reach it. Just as with older children, each child will excel in a different particular area, but when the experience of achievement becomes second nature early on, education becomes much easier. And think of that head start! It is an old but profound truth that if you love to teach, your children will love to learn. So why wait? There is no limit to what they can learn.

Our New Life...

Well things have changed a bit since I wrote 6 months ago First of all I am back on-line again! And secondly we have moved. We now live in Grover, NC we have a 3 bedroom 2 bath house on 8 acres of land!!! Not what "I" was wanting, but "OUR" wants and "GODS" wants are not always the same!!!!

I LOVE it though and so do the girls, we have our {now, down to} 7 chickens, we lost a total of 4 chickens and 1 rooster, {but I'll talk about that some other time!} our 2 dogs and have gained 1 kitten and 3 cats, all strays! We are planning on getting a few horses and a cow or two in the next few months!

For those of you who knew a bit about me...well I have been praying and God has opened ALL the doors and changed a few things...SO Roy and I will be getting married in about a month. AND we are both taking foster care classes, so in 8 more weeks we will have our "Foster Care" certificates and will be able to foster 1-2 more children! We have kin-ship care custody of my grandson, Jaysen and will probably be adopting him in about a year!!!

God has been doing a work in my life...as well as Roy's! God is SO GOOD!!! He has been SO good and faithful, He is wonderful and has sure changed my heart towards ALOT of things!

Life around here is a bit crazy and sometimes hectic, but I LOVE it!

Well I've got to get back to the farm life, feed young-uns, teach school AND empty some more boxes!!! I will try to get on here and post more tonight or in the morning!

Rock Candy....

The girls and I made some homemade Rock Candy, got the recipe here... How to Make Rock Candy but it will be 3 days tomorrow and nothing has happened yet. So I will have to go back and retry by Monday, if nothing has still happened. I'll keep y'all informed as to how it comes out!

How is y'alls day going???? Well we went to Church last night to come out to about six {or more} inches or snow and sleet!!! It took us 2 hours to go only about 6-8 miles. We couldn't even go home, but had to stop at a hotel! {FOR $80.00!!! } It was to dangerous to try to drive the rest of the way home, another 15-20 miles. We did NOT have the money for the Hotel, but it was sure cheaper than a hospital bill or a mortuary! AMEN!!!

Praise His Holy Name for keeping us safe and our animals safe and our house safe!!! HE is SO GREAT!!!!!!! I LOVE the Lord Jesus SO much!!!!
