Almost the week-end....YEA!!!!!

Good Morning! Well, we've made it through another week....well, almost....we still have testing day to go!
Bible:
We went over the book of Revelation today....better known as the Prophetical book. He also did a crossword puzzle about the books of the NT.
Literature:
Shaun took his Self Check 2 today & made a 92! YEA!!
Math:
He had his Chapter 2 Review today & made a 100 on it! Congrats. Shaun!!
Science:
Today was the Beta, Alpha, & Gamma & then Nuclear Structure. (Say what????) Shaun said it was easy. (Yeah, right! )
Social Studies:
We discussed Mennonites in early America today....it gave a good look at non-resistance & why they believed what they did & still do today. Very interesting!
Computer Basics:
Today was a FREE DAY! I'm going to put a few of those in his subjects through-out the year just to kind of give him a little break. He really likes that idea....
PE:
We're going for a walk in a little while...it's just gorgeous outside today!

Another day, another dollar? NOT!!!

Today has gone okay, I guess. We're slowly but surely getting back on track. By next week we should be okay....barring nothing else happens. (Patty ducks her head real fast! )

*********************************************************
Bible:
This morning we picked up where we left off yesterday with the General epistles. This would be James thru Jude. It's just a general overview of the books of the New Testament. Next week we'll start with the Chronological Sequence of the books of the Bible. (NT)
Literature:
Today's story was Cache of Honor. It was about a sled team trying to get across the Artic. They get lost & have to eat one of the sled dogs . Then when they finally get there, they find that an Eskimo that was starving found it before they did but refused to touch it until they all got there.
Math:
Today was cancellations. and boy did we hit a brick wall! Shaun informs me that he doesn't need to do the cancelling like it is in the book because he can get the same answer on his own with a calculator! There are days when I wish that technology was just a little bit slower....know what I mean?
Science:
Today was Atomic Nuclei. Please somebody just shoot me....it might has well have been in Greek for all I understood. The nuclear composition....protons, nutrons, atomic mass....Yes, and then the squirrel climbed a tree with a nut in his mouth. Oh! I'm sorry....what was that again? For some strange unknown reason that is beyond me....Shaun seems to actually understand & LIKE this stuff!
Social Studies:
We studied the early issues....How the nation was able to learn to stand on it's own. A little about the constitution, discrimination, & slavery.
Computer Basics:
Today's lesson was about computers & people.A few different items....privacy, errors, job changes, & physical problems like carpel tunnel syndrome. There was alot of review today because he'll have a free day tomorrow & will take his 2nd. quiz on Friday.
PE:
Today was a beautiful Fall day....He rode his bike all around the neighborhood.

Will this week never end?????

Bible:
Went went over the the "Instructive Books" (Romans - Philimon) or the Pauline Epistles today.
Literature:
Today's story, A Spark Neglected, was a story that really makes you think. Two friends have a quarrel that turns into a fued....it goes on & on until they are sueing one another & threatening to kill one another. It spreads to the wives, & neighbors & etc. There was a wise old judge who continued to tell them that they had better stop it before it got out of hand. finally it ends with one friend setting fire to to the others property & it spreading & devouring the whole village. they come back together when the one who knew who set the fire refused to say....thus, the friendships were mended & life went on.
Math:
Today we did Common Factors....just a few because of it being review.
Science:
He took his Self Test - 2 today because yesterday's lesson was so short. Made a 90 on it....YEA!!!
Social Studies:
We studied about the Freedom Pioneers today....the early statesmen & so forth.
Computer Basics:
Today we learned about the computer & how it has changed over the generations. We're up to 5 generations of computers now....but since a generation isn't recognized until it's past it might even be more.
PE:
Shaun & Honey had a romp in the yard.....

See you tomorrow!

Week 3? No Week 2 again!

Good Morning to whoever reads this...(I'm beginning to wonder if anybody does?!)
Last week was such a farce of a schoolweek that we're doing a "do-over" this week! Everything that could possibly go wrong....DID! I've changed our schedule around hoping to help things go better....I'll post after school today with how the day went....please if anyone is reading this, pray for us today. Blessings, Patty
***********************************************************
Bible:
We began studying the New Testament books today. We briefly skimmed the Gospels & Acts ~aka~ "The Historical Books".
Literature:
Today's story - Shago....A story that was a bit hard to follow (in my opinion) because of the detailed discription of everything. It was about boys playing baseball & the "top dog" if you will, slowly went blind & couldn't pitch or catch. It ended with him coming up to the other boys with some baseballs that he had wound. After he gave them to the boys, he asked, "But aren't you going to bat one?" They didn't know what to say until finally one boy blurted out...."We can't Shago....it's night." Obviously Shago had gone completely blind.
Math:
Today, he did factors. (Prime & ordinary) Since we're still obviously in review, he only did a few problems.
Science:
We studied radioactivity today....the detection of it & how to get measurements.
Social studies:
We discussed the Freedom Backgrounds. Today we read about the Freedom Principles.
Computer Basics:
Today's lesson was on the Basic Beginnings. The Abacus, the slide rule, Pascal's Mechanical Calculator, the Jacquard Loom, The Analytical Engine, & Hollerith's Machine. It was interesting to see how the computer started out....
PE:
Shaun rode his skateboard around today.

Yes, I know, I'm bored out of my skull & don't have a life....

Bible:

Weekly Ave. - 93.2
Math:
Test - 94
Weekly Ave. - 97.2
Literature:
Test - 100
Weekly Ave. - 97.8
Social Studies:
Test: 100
Weekly Ave. - 100

Almost made it through a week...:o)

Well, today was okay....school went good. Everything got finished. Once again Social Studies was a time of good discussion.
You know what I LOVE about homeschooling? The fact that I can do it how ever seems right for my family! I can be as structured or as relaxed as I want & as long as I meet our state's requirements....it's okay! For a long time I have worried about not doing school like everybody else did.
Family A does school at the kitchen table & Mom lectures....
Family B goes outside most of the warm days & un-schools....
Family C doesn't believe in testing their children....
And the list goes on & on. The way I school my children works for us & it's okay! I'm not going to feel guilty anymore!! And with that said....today we did:
Bible:
Today we studied the religious parties....better known as the Sanhedrin....the Scribes, Pharisees, & Sadducees.
Math:
Division was today...can we stand the excitement? LOL!! We're both looking forward to next week when maybe we'll get to do....umm....fractions? LOL!! I'm just teasing....review is always good!
Literature:
Today's story was called Second Chance. It was about a young man who cheated on an lab experiment & then because he was a Christian went back to his teacher & told the truth at the risk of getting a failing grade. The teacher allowed him to re-do it because he came in with the truth. Then of course there was the Vocabulary & Questions.
Science:
Today we studied the structure of atoms. And learned about the nucleus & the atomic number. How can Shaun say this is the easiest class? (I don't know about easy but it's definitely by far the most boring!)
Social Studies:
The United States' Independance & the Political Parties. Shaun thought the name"Whigs" should have continued....wonder what the Democrats & Republicans would think of that?
Computer Basics:
Today he learned about storage devices. The floppy disk, hard disk, compact disk, & tape back-up. Once again he already knew what they all were....LOL!!
PE:
PE was a romp in the yard with Honey....I think she enjoyed it as much as Shaun! They both came back in looking all tuckered out! I'll see about making him do a more structured form of PE next week. All in all I'd say that the first week went real well.Tomorrow is Test Day! Prayers please....

Hmm...not a bad day! :-)

Bible:
Today shaun finished up the Religious Literature....the Pseudepigrapha (say that fast 3 times...forget it, just be able to pronounce it! LOL!!) & the Septuagint.
Math:
Today was multiplication....(Yawn)
Literature:
As usual, he had to define Vocabulary words the first thing. Then, he had to read a story & answer questions about it. From now on, I'll just list the name of his story.... It was called The Horse & was about a girl who went to a school where the kids made fun of her because she was from the country, dressed different, & spoke funny. BOY! Can "yours truly" EVER relate to that. It almost had me in tears by the time he got to the end of it....*sigh* (I'm sooo sensitive! LOL!!)
Science:
Today, we began studying the Atomic Structure & are learning the Particals of Atoms....You know, electrons, protons, & neutrons. (Please? May I throw up now? I HATE Physical Science!!!!) Seriously, if anyone has any ideas on how to get a hang on this....I'd be ever so grateful!
Social Studies:
It was real interesting today....the Acquisition & Annexations....the growth of the US up to 1860. We got the globe down & were checking out the US map on the wall. It was interesting to see who we bought what state from & how much they cost. I got quite alot of questions & discussion from Shaun today. I loved it!
Computer Basics:
Shaun learned the different parts of the computer today. I think he could have written this part...LOL!! I think he’s going to really enjoy this course.
PE:
Once again, we did nothing organized....Literature took longer than was expected & we were so into Social Studies that we lost track of time there, too...BUT, isn't that what homeschool is all about? Enjoying learning? :-)

The grind begins....

Today's work didn't go so well. For some reason, Shaun had an attitude that just would not quit. He found fault with everything. And procrastination? He gave new meaning to the word! LOL!! But we'll get through all of this....I hope. We did:
Bible:
We finished up the empires & periods with the Maccabean & Roman. Then We started on Religious Literature with the Apocrypha. We'll continue this tomorrow.
Math:
Today was adding & subtracting. (I told you they were doing review! They went back to the basics!!)
Literature:
Every day it looks like Shaun will have words to define (Defining for Comprehension), a story to read & questions to answer (Testing for Understanding & Reading for Understanding) about the story. Then there's questions for discussion (Meditating for Meaning) which we may or may not do, depending on the day & etc. There's also a section called "Looking for Literary Technique" which will have questions to think about & discuss. The story today was called Mama and the Garfield Boys. It was about a family of brothers who were basically juvenile delinquints & a teacher who showed them a little love & discipline which made them turn around & act right. Good story....(or so I thought!)
Science:
Today we finished up the Phases of Matter with liquids & gases.
Social Studies:
We studied the Major conflicts today.
Computer Basics:
Shaun learned the Advantages & Limitations of Computers. It was pretty much common sense & I think he found it a bit boring but he did it never-the-less.
PE: No PE today....the day was too rough!
