Once again, time escapes me

I don't know how it manages to do it, but time seems to easily slip away from my grasp. I always have good intentions regarding posting...but then ultimately, life draws me in, and things get set aside to be temporarily neglected. And here it is, already February...how can that be? Didn't we just celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc? And now in a mere couple weeks, it will be Valentine's Day...once again. I suspect it shan't be much longer, and the snows will be melting, and warmer weather will once again be here. I do look forward to that time, to be honest. Being able to plant my flowers, put sheets on the line to dry, and just enjoying being out in the fresh air. Seems so far away right now, but I know when the time is upon us, I will look back and wonder how it arrived so quickly.

I know I have been promising to post our vaccine story...and I will. It is still quite difficult for me, to be honest. It takes so much out of me when I put it to type, or when I talk about it. It leaves me rather weary...and so it is something that I have to work myself up to. I do apologise for the delay...I pray for your continued patience.

Going to close this entry, but I will be back again soon, and look forward to catching up with you all once again!

Where does the time go?

I truly do not know how the time escapes me! Already into November...can you believe it?

I know a couple of you are wanting me to post our vaccinating story, as well as links. I PROMISE I will get to it very soon. It's one of those things I have to muster the will up to share, simply because it still hurts this Mommy's heart, to this day.

I am going out of state on Friday, for a few days. When I return, I will sit down, and type everything out. Please be patient!

Off to bed now...almost 1am. UGH! Will update again come the first of the week.

Garage Sale Bargains

Today was the day for our annual, autumnal, community-wide garage sales. usually, I find bargains galore at these. (One is held in the spring as well.) Back to today's sales...utter disappointment! Hardly anything worthwhile to be found. I did come across a few good deals, however:

All in all, not bad...but we've definitely done better in the past. At any rate, I am grateful that G-d sent me in the directions He did, allowing us to find the deals we did! What were your finds, today?

One of the many reasons why we DON'T vaccinate

Shock and awe. We do not vaccinate, nor will we ever again. I questioned these "wonder drugs" before vaccinating my wee one, but due to misinformation, I began vaccinating him. After two rounds of vaccinations, he suffered a severe reaction, and we have not vaccinated since. (This is the short version...full story to come one day.)

I came across this story today, and it reaffirmed to me once again, why we won't vaccinate again.

LONDON - A polio outbreak in Nigeria was caused by the vaccine designed to stop it, international health officials say, leaving at least 69 children paralyzed.

...The CDC and the World Health Organization announced the cause of the polio outbreak last week, even though they knew about it last year.

...In 2001, officials reported that 22 children were paralyzed from polio in the Dominican Republic and Haiti in this way. Subsequent vaccine-caused polio outbreaks have occurred in the Philippines, Madagascar, China and Indonesia.

...But no vaccine is risk-free.

Aside from the clearly apparent issues here, note that I highlighted the last two sentences. NO VACCINE IS RISK FREE. Think about that.

As for the outbreak being the biggest ever caused by the vaccine...that is patently untrue. It is now known that the polio outbreak in the USA during the middle part of the last century, was actually CAUSE by Salk's vaccine. Did you know that he eventually spoke out AGAINST his own vaccine? Did you know that the parent seed were infected with SV40 (Simian Virus 40), due to their being cultured on the kidneys of rhesus monkeys? Did you know those SAME parent seeds are still being used today? Did you know that SV40 has been linked to many cancers, including mesothelioma?

Hello Autumn?? Are you there?

Does anyone know the date today? October 5th. That means it has technically been autumn for about two weeks now. The weather would suggest otherwise.

For those who don't know, I live in the upper midwest...by this time of year, it is getting considerably cooler...an anticipated welcome to the hot, humid, summer heat. I love autumn...it is my favorite time of year. For so many reasons...the colors, the smells, the sounds...but mostly for the blessed cooler weather.

As I said, today is October 5th. OCTOBER 5th! The tenth month of the year. The temperature outside is 84. Add in a humidity of 58%, and a dew point of 68, and it feels like 87 degrees outside. The actual temp is supposed to reach the 90 degree mark today, and remain there for the next three days. 90 degrees. In October. In the upper midwest.

Would someone please inform Autumn that she is late for work?

Okay...am I the only who thinks that saying this word sounds like someone sneezing? =oP Alright, that aside, here is my first attempt at haiku. I don't know if it follows the rules exactly, but here it is:

Crisp smell in the air
The crunching beneath my feet
I welcome autumn

My Garage Sale Find!

Back at the end of August, Leah of Ponderings from my Heart posted about the beautiful table she purchased at a garage sale. What a steal for only $125! While I was happy for her, I must admit, I was a bit envious.

We, too, are a small family, and we had an equally small kitchen table. It barely worked for us, and did not suffice at all, when friends/family came for dinner. However, it was gifted to my DH by his grandmother. It was her table, when he was growing up. So, naturally, there is a lot of emotional value to the table. As much as we loved the table, we had come to the decision recently that we were simply going to have to but a larger table. Upon looking at what was offered in the stores, and not wanting to pay that kind of money, for something that was lacking, we decided to return to a somewhat local business, Whitacre's, where we had previously purchased our bed. While we knew we would once again be getting a quality product, we weren't looking forward to the price tag that we knew would come along with it.

That was when Leah posted about her table. I decided then and there to pray to G-d, and ask Him to lead me to a table, if it was His will.

Two weeks ago, a family on the block over from us decided to hold a garage sale. This in itself, is unusual. The village we live in is only 1100 people, and very rural. Due to that, twice a year we hold community wide garage sales. In the spring and the autumn...in the 5+ years since we have lived here, I have never seen someone hold a garage sale during any other time.

At the time, wee one had a "job" taking care of a friend's dog during lunch time. It was wee one's responsibility to let the puppy out to potty, give the puppy fresh water, and play with him for a bit. Once we got done with that, we would drive around town once, and then come home. On this day, though, was the garage sale. So we stopped. Why? Because they had a large table with 6 chairs, for sale!

Upon walking up to it, I knew it would need a lot of work. I also knew I simply was not willing to pay what she was asking for it. After some bargaining, I got her down to...

$32.50!!!

So you ask, what did I get for that measly amount of cash?

This mess! However, I knew it had potential, so I bought it. DH was less than thrilled. Here's a close up of the top...it doesn't even begin to show the bad condition of the table!

What were we going to have to work with? Was it going to be worth our time and effort? Well, imagine our surprise when we got it stripped, and discovered it was solid oak!

I was pretty excited at this point, but DH has no vision. So, trudge on we did. This is after it was completely stripped, and DH began sanding it:

Look at the grain!

I hemmed and hawed for a few days over the stain color, and ultimately we went with this...here's DH just beginning to stain the table:

The table is absolutely gorgeous! We have now completed the table, having put on 3 coats of polyurethane. It is now residing in the kitchen...what a HUGE difference! I have a couple of pictures of it, but I need to upload and resize them...but I promise to post pics of it soon! In the meantime, here are a couple pictures of the chairs. We still need to finish these. A lot of detail, though, so they will take awhile.

This shows how bad the varnish was...see how it is bubbled up? Yech!

In this picture, I have one completely stripped chair (not sanded), next to a chair in the condition we purchased them in:

They will take so much work...but when they are done, they will be equally as gorgeous as the table is!

So...I have to ask...what do you think of my $32.50 table set?
