<title>How To Start Notebooking with FREE Subject Planner</title>
<description>How To Start Notebooking
&amp;nbsp;
There is no correct or incorrect way when it comes to notebooking.&amp;nbsp; Each notebook is an &amp;ldquo;only one of its kind&amp;rdquo;.&amp;nbsp; Each child will glean their own knowledge and see things differently from another which makes their notebooks &amp;ldquo;their own&amp;rdquo; creation.&amp;nbsp; Their notebook will reflect their own individuality.
&amp;nbsp;
NO subject is restricted when it comes to notebooking.
&amp;nbsp;
It takes time and planning when first starting out in notebooking.&amp;nbsp; Once you get started and have a routine you will find that it will take no time to prepare for your subjects.
&amp;nbsp;
I like to start with what curriculum I will be using IF any.&amp;nbsp; Purchasing textbooks or other educational material is not always essential to teach your children properly.&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;
A course of study is valuable.&amp;nbsp; Mapping this out will help keep you focused on your overall objectives of what you want to get accomplished.
&amp;nbsp;
We need to grow accustomed to thinking &amp;ldquo;outside the box&amp;rdquo;.&amp;nbsp; There is no reason why we have to cover every subject every day.&amp;nbsp; We need to envision doing things differently.&amp;nbsp; Become inventive with your schedule (unless you have legal restrictions).
&amp;nbsp;
A schedule will help you put your course of study into a realistic layout so that you can make the utmost use of your time, energy, and materials.
&amp;nbsp;
Below is a link of planning pages I made that may help you get organized with subject material.

<title>I WON!! A New Notebooking Project In The Making</title>
<description>
Hi Everyone,
I received a GREAT surprise in my email box this morning.&amp;nbsp; The Old Schoolhouse and Salem Ridge Press held a contest offering one of their new books by Emma Leslie, and I was one of the lucky winners!!
I requested the book:

Out of the Mouth of the Lion: Or, The Church in the Catacombs
Story Setting:&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Asia Minor in 163 - 166 A.D.
Originally published in 1875; 265 pages; For Ages 12 &amp;ndash; Adult
When Flaminius, a high Roman official, takes his wife, Flavia, to the Colosseum to see Christians thrown to the lions, he has no idea the effect it will have. Flavia cannot forget the faith of the martyrs, and finally, to protect her from complete disgrace or even danger, Flaminius requests a transfer to a more remote government post. As he and his family travel to the seven cities of Asia Minor mentioned in Revelation, he sees the various responses of the churches to persecution. His attitude toward the despised Christians begins to change, but does he dare forsake the gods of Rome and embrace the Lord Jesus Christ?
&amp;nbsp;
I will be using this book to create a notebooking project (for those of you who may be interested) for our Bible studies.&amp;nbsp; I will post to the blog letting everyone know when the pages are done and can be downloaded.&amp;nbsp; Here is a link to Salem Press and the wonderful books they have to offer.

I just received my Alpha Omega catalog and they always offer a nice 20% discount in April and 10% discount in May.&amp;nbsp; So be on the look out for those discounts!!&amp;nbsp; Please feel free to post about homeschool discounts that offered.

<title>A Hawaii Field Trip!!</title>
<description>
I received a coupon in the mail from McDonald's, where I&amp;nbsp;got a FREE cup of their new &quot;Iced Coffee&quot; (Regular, Vanilla or Hazelnut).&amp;nbsp; I'm NOT a big McD.'s fan but my husband and I LOVE coffee!!!&amp;nbsp; We liked it.
&amp;nbsp;
It got me thinking about taking a field trip to HAWAII.&amp;nbsp; Pack your bags and come along with me!!!
&amp;nbsp;
Hawaii may be best known for producing pineapples and macadamia nuts.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Did you know that Hawaii also produces coffee?&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Kona coffee groves thrive near the world's largest volcano, Mauna Loa, on the big island of Hawaii.

&amp;nbsp;
You can see how Kona coffee gets from bean to cup by taking a tour of the Kona Coffee Mill!&amp;nbsp; You'll see the coffee groves, coffee flowers, unripe coffee &quot;cherries,&quot; and see how the beans are removed from the coffee fruit. Through text and photographs you'll learn how the beans are processed, sorted, and roasted to produce Kona coffee.
&amp;nbsp;

Website:
Lion Coffee: Tour Kona Coffee Mill

&amp;nbsp;
You don't have to let the learning stop here.&amp;nbsp; You can do a study on Hawaii and their volcano, the other islands of Hawaii, pineapples and macadamia nuts.
&amp;nbsp;
The best part of this field trip is that I can enjoy another iced coffee!!!
Blessings,

<title>Next Step With Ancient Egypt</title>
<description>&amp;nbsp;Our first section will be on Egyptian life.&amp;nbsp; The trip to the library was successful in obtaining what we needed to get started.&amp;nbsp; If you do not have a set booklist look under General Ancient History (#930) or in Egyptian History (#932).
&amp;nbsp;
TIP:&amp;nbsp; I have made a library notebook for the girls to use each time they are in the library.&amp;nbsp; I made a Dewey Decimal Chart for them to put on the front inside cover.&amp;nbsp; This made them self efficient in the library where I could spend some nice library time myself.&amp;nbsp; The chart is at the bottom of this section for you to download.
&amp;nbsp;
I have the children write down ANY word they may not understand.&amp;nbsp; I take the books while they are not in use and start on my vocabulary list and I take the lists that the girls made and combine them.&amp;nbsp; While they are reading, taking notes and writing down their ideas (or so I hope!!); I&amp;rsquo;m busy making the vocabulary list and important points in the books we are reading.&amp;nbsp; This will serve me well for question and answer time to see if they are comprehending what they are reading.
&amp;nbsp;
As the mother, I need to stay one step ahead.&amp;nbsp; The girls are reading their books and creating their design layout, so I&amp;rsquo;m working on the next section we will be learning about.&amp;nbsp; Pyramids.&amp;nbsp; I decided which books I would like to find from the booklist I have.&amp;nbsp; On one of my late night/early morning web surfing &amp;ldquo;ME&amp;rdquo; times I go to my library database to see first if they have them.&amp;nbsp; If they do, GREAT my job just became easier, if not then I need to go on a search and find mission for books that we can use to cover this section.
&amp;nbsp;
My next step is going on my search for fun pictures and graphics that we can use as well as websites that we may can take a look at as well.&amp;nbsp; I store this information in my file folder for easy access when I need it.
&amp;nbsp;
IDEA: If you are wanting to make a notebook with ancient looking paper, here is how you do it.
&amp;nbsp;
You can do this before the child writes on the paper or after.&amp;nbsp; I did it after.&amp;nbsp; Sometimes it&amp;rsquo;s hard to make things neat with crinkles in the paper.
&amp;nbsp;
After the child is finished with their report and it&amp;rsquo;s notebook ready.&amp;nbsp; Make a nice pot of strong coffee or tea (let it cool).&amp;nbsp; When everyone is done with the kitchen for the night, plug up a side of the sink and pour the coffee/tea in.&amp;nbsp; Take the paper and crumple it up, unfold it and crumple it again.&amp;nbsp; Place your paper in the coffee and let it soak for an hour or so.&amp;nbsp; Place it on some paper towels to dry over night.
&amp;nbsp;
Learning is FUN!!
Blessings,
&amp;nbsp;</description>
