The Old Sschoolhouse Magazine, Summer '07 - Homeschooling and American Heritage Girls

I'm so glad for this article! I have been looking over AHG for a few months now. My daughter is a social butterfly (takes after her Mama) and loves having the interaction with other children. We are unlike most home schooling families in that we don't get out much. Yes, she plays with the neighbor children, but it's not everyday. We also attend our church where she interacts with the other children, but that's sometimey too. I know my daughter longs for more. She loves being with her family, but I also know that she would love to do something on a more regular basis with others outside her family.

I love the idea of like-minded children of various ages getting together and working for common goals. When my daughter was younger I could tell she would be a follower and thanked God that He had already steered us to home schooling. I wouldn't have to worry about what crowd she's trying to gain acceptance into. After about two years of home schooling she is proving herself to be quite the leader. I've seen her take the high road and do the right thing when she doesn't see anyone watching. This encourages me that there's a godly character growing in her heart. I'd like to reward her with the thing she greatly desires. There's a troop near us based in a Christian school. This article just confirms in my heart that bringing her there would be a blessing and contribution to her godly character development.

Homeschooling Today May/June '07 - Determining the Amount of Sweeterner in Chewing Gum

This is another reason why I LOVE THIS MAGAZINE!!!! This little experiment was made just for the readers of HST! It caught my eye since my children would love to perform this experiment (as would most children). I especially love it since it just adds to the list of experiments we are thinking of doing. I received a crystal making kit recently (thanks MIL!). My oldest wanted to "play" with it. I told her we'd have to do the experiment and follow the directions. One direction was to collect rocks as the base for the crystals. My middle child LOVES to collect rocks anyway so we thought that would be perfect for him. We're still getting things ready for it, but now we have another experiment to do so I might just save these to do in the same week or something. This is turning out to be a wonderful summer for my soon to be K'ers!!! Thanks HST!

Homeschooling Today May/June '07 - The Scrambled Early History

I am so glad Ruth Beechick wrote this article! At first I didn't know if I would like the new magazine since it's under new management. After reading this article, I've decided: I've always LOVED this periodical and I always will LOVE this periodical!!

Since I've just been re-educating myself according to biblical beliefs I realize that a lot of what I've been taught is wrong. This article helped me see exactly what I need to re-learn. I've been trying to figure out how early history plays out since the world is only about 6,000 years old. This article states that anything in the history books before 4,000 BC is before creation so it's wrong! That leaves quite a big gap I'd guess. I wonder where all that stuff fits in then. She also states that anything before 2350BC was before the flood and probably should be thrown out too. Wow! This is totally revolutionizing my teaching! I know one thing, I'll be reading Dr. Beechick's books on history before I choose any history curriculum!

I'm back!

YES! I'm finally back in here! I have read so many articles that I wish I could have gotten on here to write about. I had password problems for a while and just decided to fix the problem once and for all!!! I'm wondering if I should go back and write about all the other articles I missed in the last year. I guess if I do I'll just mention it's a commentary of an old article in the title...

So, on with the show!

This is why I love this magazine!

I just received my Spring issue of Homeschooling Today. I love this magazine becuase it's the only one I've found that actually ministers to my spriit. Maybe it's the writers (R.C. Sproul, Jr. Stacy McDonald). Maybe it's the topics. Whatever it is, this magazine brings the Word of God as it pertains to home schooling, not just hone schooling news and encouragement. I LOVE THAT!!! They come with the pure unadulterated Word of God and then apply it to home schooling, which in turn encourages me! It's the WOrd that encourages me, not just their words of encouragement. It's such a breath of fresh air. It waters my spirit and I'm so thankful they're in the magazine business.

This is shameful

I haven't updated in here since Dec??!?!? Okay, it's partly not my fault since I had problems getting into this account. The site admins finally helped me so I'm back. This is terrible...

First off, some unfinished business. I never finished my countdown of free gifts from TOS. I really need to go back over and review what I've gotten, although I do think there's one I just plain didn't get yet. I'll be talking to Gena about that...

Next, I'm going to be updating on here regularly so big sigh of relief... I read my latest TOS and am chomping at the bit to get down all my reviews of the articles. So, here I go...

Joys in the Journey

Joys in the Journey is such a wonderful place. It has become my favorite blog to visit. I always feel such a warm peace when I read the posts. It's truly wonderful.

Aesthetically she has done a remarkable job with her blog. The environment she creates is that of a beautifully decorated home. The pictures that divide one section from another (in the sidebar) gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling as you go from category to category.

Speaking of categories, there is a wealth of information in each category. For example, in her spirituality category there are posts as to how they live our their Christian life. From here I learned about their special way of celebrating the holy days. Her posts speak of the freedom she and her family experience in the grace of God. It just warms my heart so.

The layout is wonderful too. I love the seemingly neverending side bar. You could spend hours just clicking on all the links! Everything just flows. The sidebar is topped off at the end with banners that share even more about the author.

I am touched by what she writes and do feel a transfer of the sweet Spirit of God that resides in her home (undoubtedly) to myself as I go through the posts. What a beautiful blog to visit.

New Category

I just have to start a new category on my blog. I've been reading so many wonderful blogs and they've touched my heart so much (and I love sharing my heart so much) that I feel compelled to begin a new category called Blog Reviews. This will be a section where I write about just how much each individual blog speaks to my heart and ministers to my spirit and soul.

Loving Him 4 Ever

This woman is wonderul to know! She's always got a praise to God on her lips, oops, fingertips. You can tell that she is totally head over heals in love with God! Those types of people are infectious so I'm reading much of her writings in the hopes that I'll get stirred in my spirit. Her speech is seasoned with grace and she's constantly stirring up the gifts of Jesus inside of her. I love to read her posts...

Her template is the relaxing and cool lilac with a flower in the bottom right corner. With her profile picture being near the sea I always feel like I'm somewhere in the depths of the ocean just floating around (sometimes that flower looks like an anemone to me...maybe I've been watching too much Finding Nemo). Her words coupled with her background environment soothes my soul.

Victoria Carington

Victoria's blog is the best place to go when you're feeling down. She is always in good spirits and seems always to be praying! Huh...imagine that. A Christian woman who loves to pray. She hosts the weekly prayer meeting in the Chat room here at HSB on Wednesdays at 11am. She's our resident prayer warrior! I don't know about you, but I am so glad that God has raised up a woman (At least one) who is burdened to pray for the ministry of HSB and others. She's always instant in prayer. Praise the Lord for the great work He's done in her! The intercessors stand in the gap for all of us.

Not only is she the prayer leader here, she's also involved in many diferent other things in her life. Her posts are always uplifting and always glorify God. She's very inspiring and a strong godly woman.

Our kids are near the same age and we're both African-American so I have more reasons to frequent her blog. =) She's a wonderful friend to have in the blogosphere.
