Kindred Heart Pen-Pals

I found this off of Jocelyn's blog so I thought I'd share!

Kindred Heart Pen-Pals

We just received our Spring issue of Seasons At Home magazine, and something that I saw in there that caught my eye. Joyous Home has started a Kindred Heart Pen-Pals program that was for 19+, but just recently they opened it up to young ladies, ages 13-18.

“Taking the time for old fashioned correspondence is almost non-existent with the communication possibilities available today. Many people find little reason to sit down with a pretty piece of stationary to carefully pen a nice letter. Perhaps you enclosed a lovely bookmark, scented-pressed flowers, a photograph, or just a hello hug. So few know the joyous anticipation of this lovely gift!”

I’ve already enrolled in the Kindred Hearts Pals so that we can correspond through mail. I must say, I do enjoy getting letters in the mail, especially from people who I have come to be close friends with. It certainly does bring a smile to my face to see someone’s handwritten letter that they took so much time to write. If you would like to participate in this, please go to the Joyous Home site and submit your info. I would really encourage you to do so. It’s really for all ages!

If you would also announce this on your blogs to spread the word, even if you’re not going to participate, that would be great!

Betrothal Before Marriage

New Christian Take on the Old Dating Ritual

By LAURIE GOODSTEIN

Casey Moss and Kara Price never dated each other, or anyone else. They never shared a meal alone, never talked about their dreams or plans. They never kissed and never held hands.

Yet two years ago, when Kara was 14 and Casey was 20 and heading off to medical school, they pledged their lives to each other in an improvised ceremony at their church that they called a betrothal. They exchanged matching signet rings, promised to be faithful and considered their vows as binding as a marriage.

Only then did they set about getting to know each other and thinking of themselves as a couple. Last month, with their parents' permission, they decided they could start holding hands.

While their story may seem a throwback to the Victorian age, Casey and Kara are actually on the front edge of a small but growing movement among conservative Christian youths who are rejecting the dominant culture's approach to dating and romance.

They are not simply saying no to premarital sex. They are essentially saying no to premarital romance. Convinced that dating causes emotional pain, broken promises and sexual straying, they are trying to rewrite the rules for relationships.

Although a formal betrothal like Casey and Kara's is rare -- even in conservative Christian circles some would consider their union extreme because of her youth -- many people are promoting a similar hand-before-heart approach they call courtship. The commitment to marriage comes first, before a couple is allowed to begin drawing emotionally close. In some cases, they are little more than acquaintances. Even then they are chaperoned and kept accountable by parents, pastors or responsible peers.

Thoughts On Celebrating Christmas

Shalom to you!
Well, it's Christmas Eve and everyone is hustling and bustling to finish up with Christmas preparations and packaging, but as for us...We aren't celebrating Christmas the traditional way this year (we really didn't do it last year either). We're quite unsure of how to celebrate it at all. Over the past few years we've looked deeper into why we have Christmas on December 25th and why we have all the other "signs" of Christmas. Unfortunately most of the things we do for Christmas celebration are of pagan origin. We quite putting up a Christmas tree several years ago, and just recently we found a verse in Jeremiah (even before the idea of CHRISTmas was born) that forewarned us about cutting down a tree and decorating it with silver and gold as the heathens did.

Jeremiah 10: 3-4 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

This entire chapter is really breath-taking and has a lot of strong words.

I was once heard,

"Even if everyone celebrates a holiday for the wrong (pagan) reasons, doesn't mean that we are celebrating the same holiday for those reasons."

Now, I do think this statement is true, but why would we want to take any part in anything that is pagan? It is a hard decision to make and lots of thoughts to ponder. I am torn about it because I don't want to not celebrate Christ, but I certainly don't want to do anything that is un-Biblical.

Robin Sampson @ Heart of Wisdom has been posting some interesting thoughts on celebrating Christmas and Jesus. She did a really good job on these two posts, To Christmas or Not to Christmas? Holiday Dilemmas and King of the Jews: King of Kings, so I would encourage you to stop over there.

I really enjoying reading her blog because she looks at the Bible through a Hebraic perspective. You can learn a lot from reading her blog about the Hebrew culture and why some of the Biblical commands are the way they are, in relation to how Jesus was raised.

And has anyone ever noticed that we say Merry Kris-mas, not Merry CHRIST-mas? I wonder if the pronunciation of Christmas has anything to do with Kris Kringle?

Shalom to you in CHRIST,
Encourage Your Sisters in Christ

I received an email from a well-known blogger mom.

"Yes, I really meant it - I love your blog. :) I think it is wonderful and that you are such a joy to the Lord being so strong in your faith at such a young age. I would give my right arm if I could have been like you that young. It brings tears to my eyes. I had to come to the Lord the HARD way. You can read my testimony on my blog's sidebar. I hope my daughter grows up and is just like you.

God bless and keep strong in Christ,
Heather "

Wow! It brought tears to my eyes... truly. It is so heart-warming and encouraging when you receive nice comments about your blog...especially from a mom-blogger.

As Christian women, we should be encouraging the younger generation, whether you're 15 or 35, to keep strong in the Faith, to seek Jesus in everything, to have hope, to be pure and let them know you're proud of them. If you don't know them in person, drop them a comment (It won't take more then 30seconds to say "good job!") and tell them that way! It will give them "fuel" for their spirits.

The Bible gives good instructions on what/how the older women are supposed to do for/with the younger women...

Titus 2: 3-5
    3The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Here is another comment I received last week.

Spoken by Walkersquiver at 9:09 PM
I enjoyed reading your passion for the Lord. It gives me hope for my own daughter. God Bless!

I am not the perfect role model nor do I claim to be. I have flaws and blemishes. I still sin and disobey... but if in my spirit I can give hope to mothers for their daughters, it keeps me striving to be a "perfect role model".

Shalom
"...it (feminism) is mixed up with a muddled idea that women are free when they serve their employers but slaves when they help their husbands."
Saturday Psalm & Praise - Psalms11

I couldn't decide which psalm or praise to post so I decided to do Psalm 11 since today is the 11th of November.

Psalm 11 reads the following:

1In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

2For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.

3If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

4The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

5The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

6Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

7For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

What a powerful chapter. We are like the bird who flees to the Lord, which is like a giant mountain. He is there ready to protect and shelter us from harm, from night, for the storm.

I have been reading a lot of Deuteronomy, and seeing how the Lord treats those who keep His commandments. Israel was a blessed nation. They were protect like the bird who flee to the mountain. The Lord gave them countless chances, whereas with other nations He simply wiped them from the records. He still does that today. Because of Jesus Christ, we are all able to flee to the mountain... again... and again... and again. There is no limit.

I will put my trust in the Lord, who will keep me, as a little bird fleeing to the mountain. He is my protector.

Please either email me or leave your email address if you wish to receive notices when I update this blog.
Unclean Food

I was reading Deuteronomy 14 today, and found some interesting information about what we're supposed to eat.

I don't eat pork. They are a very unclean animal, and they will eat anything - including dead pigs and fetuses. I haven't eaten pork for several year and always been questioned about this. Is it a religion thing? Well, no, I guess not. I did not stop eating pork because of the laws in the OT. I stop eating pork for the same reasons in the OT though. Pigs are such a dirty animal that the Holy people of the Lord, Israel aren't even allowed to touch them. It was an unclean thing, and I imagine that with what pigs eat it's not healthy for you either. I think if we all went back to eating food according to the Bible we would all be healthier. I mean the Lord made all the animals. He knows what's good and what's bad.

Verse 8: And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.

I don't eat bottom-feeders either - such as shrimp, lobster, and crab - because the Bible says not to eat anything that doesn't have scales or fins. Not to mention that all the waste (human and sea) that settles on the bottom of the ocean is what the above eats, and then we them. It's been hard for me because I do like shrimp, lobster, crab, honey-glazed ham, but it's not worth my health.

While reading on in chapter 14, I saw we're not supposed to eat rabbit. Hmmm.. I had never really thought about this before. I know a lot of people who go hunting and have eaten rabbit. I've even wanted to try some, but the Bible says it's an unclean animal. *crosses rabbit off list*

Verse 7 Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you.

It puzzles me exceedingly that people disregard what's bad for them because they want to eat it. I mean really nasty foods... like pork.

Another thing I hadn't noticed before was that the Lord said we could drink fermented drink... which is beer, ale, wine. Did you know that beer has a lot of b-vitamins and is good for your health? Why then is it exposed as a bad thing, you ask? Because people abuse it. They drink too much and they get harm people and eventually drinking so much will harm them, but it’s not wrong to drink beer.

Verse 26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

I am learning alot by reading my Bible from cover to cover, and I am so glad because I know what the Bible says about things, but I didn't know word-for-word. Now, I am beginning to.
Why Did I Choose Lois the "SIMPLE"?

Because I read my Bible and find truths that are so simple to understand, yet our culture - Christians - have debated about subjects for years. They try to make everything fit into their plans and ideas. They create new translations and add things in a Bible for "better understanding" and so on.

Did you know that the King James Version Bible is the closest translation to the original text? It is also the easiest to read and understand.... but people don't want to understand; they'd rather pull the covering over their heads and trying to find another translation - one that fits them better.

The Bible was not written by men who were total cryptic-geeks. It was written by normal men and it was to be read in a "normal" way. Let's stop trying to find our way around the SIMPLE, and just start reading the SIMPLE truths of the Bible.
Youth Groups

Shalom to you sisters and brothers in Christ!

After posting my last post, I got a comment from ElvishMaiden14, and she asked,

"are you saying that Youth pastors, ect . . should not teach youth group? Or are you saying that there should be no youth group?"

So I thought I would answer with a post so everyone can read my reply.

I don't see the difference between having the youth leader teach the YG or having a YG at all. They're the same thing, and I disagree with both. As I have already written, the Bible clearly instructs FATHERS to teach and train their children in the Lord.

Here in 1 Timothy 5:8, it says, "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."

If a father cannot provide the spiritual leadership he should, he is worse than an infidel. It is not the job of a youth leaders to train the children, but the father's. We have given too much responsibility to others to train and teach our children. Youth leaders is the Christian version of a public school-teacher, except we are giving a higher responsibility to the youth leader - We give them the responsibility of training children for their eternal life - for their soul. It doesn't matter if the youth leader trains up the children in the wrong or right way - ultimately the father will be held a accountable to God for his family, not the youth leader.

So why if the youth leader will ultimately be discounted, why would you take the chance of them teaching your children wrongly?

After reading the Books of the Law, I have come to the conclusion that we are a lazy Christian nation. I once heard someone say that so and so are expecting too much from fathers... I disagree. Expecting fathers to take care of all the family needs, inch by inch, teaching, training, time with each child, always being happy, and so forth... is NOTHING compared to the standards that the Lord gave to the Children of Israel in the desert. No comparison.

Merry also asked,

'But there are total guidelines for the church. The pastor is the one who has charge over the whole church, leading them to YHWH. Isn't this so?"

I am not a %100 sure if that is correct; doesnt' sound like it, but a pastor is different than having the youth pastor, the children's pastor, and nursery teachers. Our culture thinks we have to make everyone comfortable.... the parents are comfy when all the kids are in their classes, and the kids are comfy in their age-divided groups.

I disagree with the nursery and children's classes as well. Children should be well trained enough, by the parents, to sit nicely in church. My little brothers and sisters, have always sat with us in church. It did take training and time, and maybe an embarrassing moment or two of baby cries, but they sit with us, quietly. My parents are solely in charge of their care. Mom always made sure to bring a book or two and maybe a colour book for them, but they sat with us during church.

God created the family as one and we should not be so bold as to divide it. Satan is always looking for ways to divide us and we are just making his job so much easier. It only took one bite for the fall of mankind... just one. Why take the chance?

And, please give me some scripture to back up your beliefs.

Shalom,
Slandering Sister in Christ

I have been reading SuperAngel's blog since she started, and I have gotten to read her all of her posts, and see what a Godly young lady she is. There was recently an outright attack on her character as a Godly young lady, based on her blog theme. I'd like to take the time to defend my sister in Christ.

The blogger said, "I am not saying that it is wrong to have a superman as a blog template. I am just saying that when you write about God, and you preach about it, and have a theme like that, you are not doing as you preach and or setting a good example for people."

I don't, in any terms, think that was setting a good example for anyone. Attacking/slandering your sister in Christ?

1 Timothy 3:11
Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

Besides that, I do not agree with the half-dressed fairies that are displayed on this blogger's blog nor the linked blogger's. Why is half-dressed fairies any less sinful that a superhero, who was in fact model after God/Moses?

First of all, this blogger did not do her homework. She apparently doesn't know anything about Superman, and that is why she sounds so absurd.

>>>> The story of Superman's origin parallels those of other cultural heroes and religious figures such as Jesus, Moses, who were spirited away as infants from places where they were in danger. However, facts of his origin, as well as relationships and abilities, have changed significantly over time. Editors and writers used the process of "retroactive continuity", or "retcon", to adjust to changes in popular culture, eliminate restrictive segments of the mythos, and permit contemporary storylines. These changes are intended to retain the core elements that make Superman an iconic character.

*The italicized taken from PluggedInOnline.com

"Much has been made over the years about the links between the Superman mythology and the story of Jesus. Director Bryan Singer avoids any subtlety in creating those connections afresh. Early in the film, we hear Jor-El telling his son, "Even though you've been raised as a human being you're not one of them. They can be a great people, Kal-El. They wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all—their capacity for good—I have sent them you, my only son."

The bolded words are the words of Jor-el, Superman's father. If you take a look at the scriptures, you will see a likeness:

John 1:18
No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

God as Jor-el did, sent us his only son to "show us light".

And Singer's story piles on obvious nods to Jesus' story throughout the film. Lois and Superman discuss at length whether she and the world need a savior. He tells her that with his god-like listening powers, he hears people crying out for one every day. The climactic battle with Lex Luthor escalates the connection. In an effort not to give too much away, let's just say Superman is attacked in a manner similar to the account of Jesus' death and then experiences a kind of resurrection. At one point, he even assumes the physical position of Christ on the cross as he sacrifices himself to save humanity.

Singer, who is Jewish, doesn't deny the connections between Superman and Jesus, but his statements make clear that he doesn't intend the film as any kind of explicitly Christian story. (And the story's hints at Superman's sexual indiscretions lend credence to his case.) Still, many Christians will make use of the similarities as a springboard to point people to the good news of Jesus. In his new book called The Gospel According to the World's Greatest Superhero, author Stephen Skelton goes to great lengths to reveal how writers for Superman comics, radio scripts, TV shows and movies have intentionally modeled the Man of Steel after the Man of Sorrows. He points out that the "El" in Jor-El and Kal-El can also be seen as the Hebrew name for God. He references the phenomenon of Superman's death and resurrection in the comic book series in the early '90s. In fact, he says in the intro to his book, "I know who Superman really is," explicitly referencing the greatest hero as a picture of Jesus Christ.

And while there's value utilizing any tool available to help others see their need for a Savior, it's important that we don't lose the message that what we need saving from is our own sinfulness. The Bible teaches that Jesus came to die the death we deserved because of our rebellion against God. In that message, Superman Returns parts company with Scripture. When Jor-El suggests that humans can be a great people if someone will simply show them the way, he stops short of the truth that by nature humans are a self-serving, self-destructive people who deserve eternal death apart from God. We needed a Savior to die that death for us, to give us the opportunity through Him to spend eternity with the God our sin keeps us from.

Apart from all this, I really am angered by the fact that this blogger hardly knows SuperAngel, and if she does she has poor judgment, that she would publicly slander her.

We are called to lift one another up, and not to put them down.

As for this, "You should not think me small and insignificant. I know about the Bible and God too. This might not sound like much from a lesser blogger. But that is just an opinion that means a whole lot if you think about it."

No, you're not small or insignificant, but when you don't have ANY facts, and it is just your opinion, then it's not worth much to anyone. Jesus did a lot of teaching, and many people disagreed with him, but he used the WORD and had truth and facts to back him up. I think this is the best way to state your opinion - if you have a basis for it - otherwise, it's *just* your opinion.

Shalom,

Fathers Are To Teach, NOT The Church-Leaders

Really interesting verses that I've found about the family....

Genesis 18:19
"For I have known him in order that he may command his children and his
household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do
righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has
spoken to him."

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is
old, he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 3:12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the
son in whom he delighteth.

Proverbs 27:11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer
him that reproacheth me.

Proverbs 19:18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul
spare for his crying.

Proverbs 23:13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest
him with the rod, he shall not die.

Isaiah 38:19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this
day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

Malachi 4:6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children,
and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the
earth with a curse.

1 Thess 2:11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every
one of you, as a father doth his children,

1 Timothy 3:4One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in
subjection with all gravity;

1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those
of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

After listing all these verses, in both the New & the Old Testaments, I
think the Bible is pretty clear on who should be training children. Look
at that verse in 1 Timothy about what a father is if he does NOT train his
children in the faith - he is "worse than an infidel".

The father is to be the teacher... Not the Schoolteacher, not the
Government, not the children's church leader, not the youth leader. But
the parents, and nowhere, does the Bible tell the mothers to train the
children. These verses are all directed towards the father because he is
the Head of the Family. The one God put in charge when He made Adam and
Eve, and he will be the one charged at the Judgment for his family.

As our great nation grows, we have more women taking leadership roles
where they are in authority over men, which, by all means, goes against
the Bible. In

1 Timothy 2:11-15
1Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

I've heard many times that from women, who say they've been called to be a
youth leader, and since I've never heard of "girls youth group" and "boys
youth group" these women are directly disobeying the Word because they are
taking authority over young men, and instructing them. They are not
following the "women are to be silence in the church" protocol. The Word
has always said this and will forever, no matter how different our culture
becomes.

Fathers are to teach the children, mothers are to be his helpmeet... there
is no place for church leaders to rule over the family. I don't remember
Paul writing anything about Lydia teaching the youth group. Churches in
the Bible were made up of a few families meeting in another family's home.
There were several communities all over the Middle East. They didn't have
a church building because they were the church. Today, we've got to have
the biggest, the bestest, and loudest church on the block. It's
ridiculous. We've lost the idea of what the church really was/is. It's not
this adult's group, and this teen group, and this child's group. The
church is families.

If someone would like to quote a piece of scripture to refute the above
verses, you are welcome to do so. In fact, I would encourage you.

Shalom
Saturday Psalm & Praise: *For The Beauty Of The Earth*

This is one of my all time favourite hymns. I love singing it to my little siblings and they love to sing it. Mom bought a little kids music hymn book, and this song was one of them. The book played a little tune for each song, and so we would play it over and over and over... now it has been played so much, you can barely hear it. The song is really breath-taking and a true description of our Lord of all....

For The Beauty Of The Earth

For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies.

Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour,
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon, and stars of light.

Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of ear and eye,
For the heart and mind’s delight,
For the mystic harmony
Linking sense to sound and sight.

Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth and friends above,
For all gentle thoughts and mild.

Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For Thy Church, that evermore
Lifteth holy hands above,
Offering up on every shore
Her pure sacrifice of love.

Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the martyrs’ crown of light,
For Thy prophets’ eagle eye,
For Thy bold confessors’ might,
For the lips of infancy.

Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For Thy virgins’ robes of snow,
For Thy maiden mother mild,
For Thyself, with hearts aglow,
Jesus, Victim un-defiled.

Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

For each perfect gift of Thine,
To our race so freely given,
Graces human and divine,
Flowers of earth and buds of Heaven.

Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.

Have a blessed Saturday, my friends as sing... "Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise."

Shalom,
Pleas stop over at Lothlorien and read Jocelyn's latest post on writing a Hope Chest Ebook. She needs those of you who have a hope chest to write about it and send it to her, and she might consider putting it in her book.

She says, "I am need of your help for my ebook. I need you, if you have a hope chest, to write why you have a hope chest and what it means to you. Think of it as a writing assignment for my blog-school. Ha-ha! No really, I want to put it my ebook, and I will give you credit and put your blog link in there. It would really be helping me... so who wants to help? You can send it to me in a email and I will read it over. My email is mjdixon@kconline.com."
Shalom... We're Not Dead Yet!

Shalom to all who actually still check on this blog. We are not dead, but I really don't even know if Chloe or Rachel were ever a live... they've never posted on here. I have asked them but they don't know what to write.

So anyway, I just thought I'd post and say we're all still alive. I have just been too busy to post on here. Thank you for your encouraging words.

Shalom in Christ,
