The Young Writers Lounge - Homeschool Blogger

Hello, and welcome to the Young Writers Lounge! Grab a cup of tea, pull up an easy chair, and make yourself comfortable. Our names are Kylie and Ashley. We started this blog because we both like to write, and we knew that other kids & teens liked to as well. Our goal in this blog is that you would be encouraged and perhaps improve in your writing. Each week we shall have a writing assignment, that will be fun, and hopefully challenging. We hope you will join us here!

Hey there~

We've decided to stop posting Lane & Lizzie, because it is going to be really hard to write about it, since we've never been there. However, Kylie might continue writing it, so if you are interested in having the parts e-mailed to you, please let us know. We do have the second part written, if you'd at least like to read that.

Thanks,

'Lane & Lizzie' - Chapter 1, Part 1

Hey everyone,

We have started a story that we're going to be posting a little bit of each week. It is about two missionary kids, Lane & Lizzie. We will be alternating writing every two parts, and Ashley will cover Lane's parts, and Kylie will do Lizzie's. So here is the first part. We hope you enjoy it, and please tell us your thoughts!

'Lane & Lizzie' - Chapter 1, Part 1

Table of Contents

Chapter 1 ~ Part 1

From Lizzie's perspective....

I nervously gazed out the tiny airplane window, anxious to catch my first glimpse of exotic Brazil. It was to be my new home, and I was both excited and apprehensive to see it.

"Hey, Liz, what're you worried about?" My 15-year-old brother and best friend Lane said, playfully. He must've picked up on my stress.

I tried to play along, but the nervous feeling wouldn't go away. I forced a smile, but my tears threatened to spill over.

Lane turned serious. "It IS really bothering you, isn't it?"

I nodded, knowing I must look absolutely pitiful. "I'm definitely looking forward to this new adventure...but... it's just that I'm going to miss home--old home-- in Florida so much!" Now a tear did come, and it slowly slid down my cheek.

"I know how you feel," Lane admitted. I wasn't surprised, but I did wonder why he hadn't told me sooner.

"You know... I was going to miss my friends, and of course the skate park. And all my favorite things about Florida. But I realized I was taking the most important stuff with me--You, Mom, and Dad." Lane smiled, and I couldn't help smiling back.

"At least we have each other," I said, feeling better already.

"Yep, at least we have each other," Lane repeated, brushing my tears away.

"You know what else?" Lane said, after a few minutes. "We have God on our side, too. Just because we're in another country, doesn't mean he doesn't see us or love us."

I nodded. I had known that, but it felt good to hear it again.

Then there was silence. As Brazil seemed reluctant to show itself, although we were almost there, I fingered the bundle of papers I had held the whole trip. They were printed-out e-mails from Mom and Dad, who had gone on ahead to Brazil before us, to get settled. Although I had wanted to go as a family, it just seemed to work better this way. So Lane and I had stayed behind at an aunt's house, waiting for the moment when we could finally see Mom and Dad again.

I opened the first email we'd received from Mom and Dad, and started to read it for the tenth time on this trip.

May 28
Dear Lane and Lizzie,
How are you both? We think of you often, and can't wait until you're ready to join us.
We just arrived in Brazil three days ago. since then, we've been very busy trying to get things ready for you to come live here. We think you'll like it. There is lots of room for you to run around. There are many children & teens here, and everytime we see one we always think of you. The launguage is different, but pretty easy to catch onto, and we think that you two quick learners will have it down in no time.
We found a small house, just inside of Rio de Janeiro that seems just perfect for us. It's small, but we can make do. It's just on the edge, so close enough for you to go exploring with us in the rain forests, but still close enough to civilization. =)
We also got to meet the Brazilian pastor and his wife--Pastor Juan and Maria Hernandez. They are very nice people that will be a joy to work with.
We really feel like this is where God's called us, more and more each day. It's a great big adventure, but we're so glad to have you along with us. We love you and miss you very much.
    Stay out of trouble!! =)
    Love,
    Mom & Dad

It was now August. Mom and Dad had sent many more e-mails describing the incredible new world of Brazil. I read each and every one again, and my excitement increased with each word I read.

Maybe this won't be so bad after all! I thought and smiled to myself. I couldn't wait to see Mom and Dad again--it had been far too long.

"Lizzie, look!" Lane's urgent tone brought me back to the present.

"Oooh," I gasped. Lane was pointing out the window at our first glance of Brazil. It seemed to be a beautiful country. There were dense rainforests and busy cities alike.

"Oh... wow!" Lane exclaimed.

I turned to him excitedly. "Just think, Lane! This is just the surface. There's so much more to explore!"

Lane grabbed my hand in his caring, brotherly way. "We'll do it together," he said.

"Together," I whispered.

TO BE CONTINUED....

Check back next week to hear more about Lizzie and Lane in Part 2!
