It's been a long time

Hi, every one. I'm sorry that it has been such a long time since I posted. And sorry that my last entry was unreadable. Thanks to Heather for showing everyone what to do and what it says.

I haven't been on for so long because we no longer have a computer. I'm working from my brother's computer today so I can get back in touch with you.

Please pray for me and my family. We are going through a major crisis. My dear husband has fallen into some legal trouble and is currently in jail. At this point , things are up in the air and we don't know how long he will be there. It looks like I'm going to be playing the single mom for awhile. Also, in the midst of this, we have a sort of mixed blessing. We are expecting a baby in mid-July. We so wanted a baby, but the current situation makes it rather bittersweet. It all has been so hard on our family.

I will have to support the family now, as well as come up with legal fees. I really want to stay home with my precious children, especialy with a new baby, and homeschool. I'm trying to think of things I can do from home using my talents, maybe some thing with sewing. If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than open to hearing them.

I do have to report that the Lord has been taking this situation, which Satan meant for evil to destroy us, and using it for good. My dear husband has given his life to Jesus and has touched the lives of many of the other inmates with his witness. One has even given his life to Jesus too.

But he is such a baby Christian, and the situation so discouraging at times, and his health not so good that I am seriously concerned about his spiritual and physical well being.

God has been so faithful to us through all of this. We have so many friends, family , and church family coming along side us and supporting us; spiritually, financially, emotionally, helping with the kids.

I'm not sure when I will be able to get back on, but I will be back to check for your comments. Thank you in advance for your prayers, support, and suggestions.

Also, since November is the month of Thanksgiving; I have been making a specific list of God's blessing to be thankful for. So far I've got 30 things on my list. Couldn't we just go on and on?

I'm back

Hi. I haven't been on here for over a week. Our computer was down. Our littlest daughter stuck cotton swabs in the power supply fan and burned it out! We got a new fan but the connector was different from our old one. So my dh spliced the old connector to the new fan. He wanted to make sure it would work before he put every thing back together. Unbeknownst to him, a circuit pad was sitting on the thin metal rim around my countertop. When he plugged it in it shorted out the whole power supply. I'm just thankful that he didn't get electrocuted! Anyway, we had to order in a new power supply, because, of course, they didn't have ours in stock. It was suppose to be here Friday but didn't get in until Monday. My dh had to go all weekend without his computer! I think he went through withdrawl symptoms! haha! I'm trying to get caught back up on computer things; e-mail, checkbook, HSBogger. It will be good to visit you all again and see what you have been doing while I was away.

October happenings

It looks like it has been awhile since I wrote anything. My, how time flies!

On Oct. 5, I went to the Taste of Home Cooking School show with a good friend of mine. I went to one once before, back in 2000. We have been wanting to go to one together since then. As it turned out, they were sold out of tickets when she went to get hers. But she decided to show up anyway on the off chance that maybe some people would not show up and there'd be some seats available. They said that was possible but she would have to wait until the show was just about to start so they would know if any seats were open. So she stood back out of the way and shortly a lady came in and said she had three tickets she couldn't use, did anyone need some? My friend jumped right up and got a ticket from her and got in right away. She went in and saved us seats and they turned out to be right behind my mother-in-law and her friend! It was a nice evening out and everything they made looked sooo good. We each got goody bags with a couple of recipe magazines, samples, and coupons. I know I'll be trying out some of those delicious recipes soon!

I Hate Computers!

I just spent an hour and a half writing an entry about my retreat. I had written quite alot and still was not done. I did something wrong and I lost it all. I couldn't find a way to get it back. I am so angry and frustrated right now. I don't know when I will feel like trying that again. I really don't have that much time to waste. I shouldn't spend as much time on the computer as I have been. Sorry.

Isn't that a wonderful verse? I found it somewhere and decided to copy it down and put it in my planner. We just need little reminders some times about how important a job we have. Mothers really are the heart of a home. And how can a home be a home if no one is there. Take heart, stay-at-home mom; those high-powered career women have nothing on you. Nobody needs you more than your family.

That said, women have and continue to make great contributions in all spheres of human endeavor. I do not belittle that at all (remember the Proverbs 31 woman?). I just believe that if you have a family, they should be your first priority; after God, of course.

Mommy Brain

Talk about Mommy Brain! I was a week ahead of myself. The retreat isn't until this weekend! It's a good thing I found that out before I went over there a week early. I would have been really embarassed! My daughter says that I'm just really anxious for a get-away. It was just as well that it wasn't this past weekend. Our family ended up being sick all weekend.

Our first week of lessons went well. We are easing back into things, working out a schedule. That seems to be my main challenge, trying to fit in all of the things that need to get done. Not just lessons, but everyday things like chores, meals, cleaning; or special projects and holidays. I'm just too easily overwhelmed.

On a solemn note:
I couldn't write today without expressing my feelings about the September 11, 2001 tragedy. Has it really been five years? The memories, the sorrow is still so fresh. My heart goes out to all those who lost loved ones in the attack and in the war on terror. I will honor the fallen, and support our servicemen & women. I will never forget. Their attack was not just on certain people or certain places. Their attack was on my country, my countrymen, on me and my family. We will never be the same. I must believe that Jesus continues to bring good out of this tragedy.

Starting Out Good

Well we started some lessons today. It went pretty well. My daughter wasn't too rusty after her summer break. The hard part seems to be keeping my littlest daughter out of her hair so she can work. She can be rather distracting!

We got a new-to-us bookshelf, and I worked on rearranging where I want to put our books, supplies, and resources. It needs another 1 - 2 shelves, which my brother said he would make for me, but I'm not sure when he will have to time to do it. He's going to be out of town for business for ten days next week.

I get to go to a ladies retreat conference this weekend! My pastor called me this morning to see if I'd like to go. Someone had given him a check and said that it was to send someone to the retreat. I hadn't even considered it as it just wasn't in our budget right now. The Lord is so awesome, giving us so much more than we can even think or ask! I'm pretty excited. I haven't been to anything like this for at least three years. I think it will be really wonderful. What a blessing!

Getting Ready

My oldest daughter is at my folks' for the week. While she is gone I'm trying to get things ready to start lessons when she returns. We were starting to ease back into things before she left anyway. I always intend to do more school through the summer than we ever actually accomplish. We did the summer reading program at the library and were otherwise busy all summer. I'm always amazed at how much our children learn when we aren't even teaching them. They are just natural learning sponges.

Today I started working on the bulletin board that I do for our children's church. I want to get it finished now so I won't have to take time out from lessons next week when we are getting back into the swing of things.

Right now I have my father-in-law's famous sweet & sour ribs cooking for dinner. Yum! I'm also baking an apple pie with the apples my husband brought home from work a few days ago. My crust even turned out OK. The last couple of times I made pie crust, it was greasy and crumbly. And I use the same recipe all of the time. Last time I used part whole wheat flour. Maybe that is what made the difference.

My little daughter had to "help" me with the pie. I'm learning with this second child to be more open to those "wanting to help" moments while she still has them. They outgrow that all too soon, then it is a battle to get them to help.

I'd better go get some other things done before my husband gets home.
