Christian Knighthood Academy for Boys - Homeschool Blogger

We are a homeschool family who loves the Lord! After years of frustration we took our kids out of public school so that we can raise them up the way we see fit. Our goal is to raise our boys into Christian Men using the concept that they are knights. Instilling, the battle belongs to the Lord, putting on the Armor of God, and to be respectfull, shiverious, boys to men! That honor has an action as well as a meaning, so that they will be honorable men of faith.

Good people, Good advice!

We are a new homeschool family, since Feb. 2007. Most of the time we had at the end of last school year we used to "unschool" our boys. Getting out of the routine on rushing through assignments and doing enough to get buy, and getting out from behind the desk, was the bulk of their education. We did work on some other things as well, but our main concern was to get them to understand how different homeschooling would be and how much fun we could have. We did go on several field trips and lots of nature time.
At the beginning of this school year I was getting very nervous about what to do. Well, the good people of the FIAR boards gave us some good advice on how to homeschool. Proving yet again, how wonderful it is to have people to turn to, knowing you are asking some "stupid" questions and no one cares how "stupid" they are. You will still get good answers from which to glean from. Last week was our first full week and it went well. In fact, we are going to rerow the book from last week and can see how to make it better. Not to say that it was horrible but we can see the holes that we left behind and we are going to go back and fill them in. We are still working on the ability to row Beyond FIAR, but that will come too.
My point is if we are willing to listen there are good people with good advice, we just have to be humble enough to take it after we ask for it!

What do you do on Sunday?

I ask this question because it has become an important topic to me. I am a photographer for a big department store and just recently they changed the studio hours from 12 noon to 8pm to the hours of 10am to 7pm. As a result I have to quit my job because I am an active Christian who feels it is necessary for me to attend on Sunday Morning. Why quit you ask? Because I am studio manager and I have to be able to work at all times. Well, the company has other options to cover that shift so that I can go to church. See, I teach children's church and my husband is the preacher. More importantly, why would anyone need to get their picture taken on Sunday morning?
As Christians we hold Sunday as a special day set aside for God and ask; why wouldn't anyone be here this morning? The Answer is, when we stop by the grocery store on Sunday Morning to get that dish to pass at a pitch-in, or when we stop by our favorite fast food stop to get a breakfast biscuit, or the all important after Sunday Morning Service meal at our local Mexican restaurant or Steak House. We Christian force non-Christians and Christians alike to work on Sunday. I know a lady who has not been to church for three years because she is a door greeter at a department store and they will not give her a Sunday off, even after asking several times.
Keep in mind, people get sick everyday, have car accidents everyday and houses catch fire everyday, even on Sunday. The rescue and health industry are a necessity and we should appreciate their willingness to help. What I am speaking about is the things we do on Sunday to MAKE people work. When we go out to eat on Sunday, someone has to cook it, serve it, and clean it up, if it's not you than who is it?
My point is, if you truly want the people in your community to come to church and know Christ's saving grace, then don't do business on Sunday. Stay home to eat, cook your pitch-in dish the day before and reheat while getting dressed, take time during the week to be prepared to go to church and have a lovely Sunday
On of my favorite preachers once said, “You should make the decision to come to church long before Sunday morning.” That being true, we should be prepared to go to church long before Sunday morning.

My First Blog...

Well, this year has been a year of first and new things. We moved to Indiana, pulled our kids out of public school so that we can homeschool them, and now I have a blog, who new?
We are using Five in a Row and Beyond Five in a Row. Our classes start on Tuesday August 14,2007! We are beginning with How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World and The Boxcar Children. I just went to the library today to get some read along books. While I was there I found a book from FIAR Vol 2 for sale for $1, it is The Little Red LIghthouse and the Great Gray Bridge. I was so excited!!! Plus, I found a book on apple crafts, my 2nd grader will love doing some of those things.
I recently learned that having a time to Read Aloud to the family is important, remember I'm knew, and on the FIAR board I saw a recomondation to a book called, The Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. While we do have a larger county library, our town library is small (but not tiny!), and they had this book also! I was just so excited!
I am not a schedule person but have been inspired to TRY to schedule. Now, I am not setting my self up for failer here, I am going to "schedule" what book we are going to read and when we are going to read it. I don't do good with, at 1:00 we are going to do english, 2:00 math schedule. So, maybe this will work better.
Well, this is it for my first blog, maybe my next one will be better!
In Christ Love
