We are moving to a different address.

My apologies but I just was constantly bothered by the title I chose "Diva". I should have known better, as a saved child of God, what we say and do reflects on Him. Since Diva has the meaning of prima donna and goddess (that part I was not aware of), I just can't continue to use it. My apologies, as I know this means you need to change your links on your blogs. My daughter is in the process of transfering over all the posts.. Sadly, for now, I don't know what to do about the comments left on this blog. Our new address is. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/thedietblog I should have subscribed to the old saying of K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid). hee Hee..
Kristy

All the comments have been transferred to the new address.. i will keep this blog running for awhile and then delete it.. Please change the links on your personal blogs to reflect the new address. Thanks!!

Please read

Please read Joyce's comments on the post "Ready, Set, Go". She is sooooooooo correct, you need to write your stuff down. It's important to see what you're eating, so you don't get fooled into thinking your eating less than you really are. Keeping a journel on your feelings is a very good idea, it will help you pin point if you're eating out of emotion.

Thanks Joyce

Ready, Set, Go!!! Day One

As I mentioned in the earlier post, We are at the point of starting tasks. The book recommends a two week waiting period before starting on a diet WHILE you do these tasks. Most of us are already on on a plan, so I will try to condense it all and make it user friendly.

Pull out your 3x5, cards. You're going to make your first response card. Jenn have you done this??

This card is an essential tool that will help you change your mindset and help to control sabatoging thoughts. They will also help to keep you motivated. Read these cards daily, and Dr Beck suggests for the rest of your life.

** Record all the advantages and benefits for losing weight. Use as many cards as you need. You might be having sabatoging thoughts right now about this task, but all the more reason to plow through it and do it!!!

**Make a copy of the card or cards to carry in your purse also.

Here are some other helpful suggestions for your response card.

** Make a screen saver out of them
**Program your e mail to send you messages daily or throughout the day. Yahoo has a calendar that you can use to do this.
** Copy them on a sticky note and post then around your house. In front of the computer is a good spot!
**Put the list on the inside of your diet plan, or pantry, or on the cookie container, the potato chip bag!!!

Use your Advantage Responds cards- While reading think "How important is losing weight to me"?
Read your cards.....

* Daily, at a scheduled time, twice a day at least. More you read the better, the best time I would think would be around meals.
* When you're fighting tempations, cravings, or urges
* Make reading your card a habit-use something to remind yourself to read your card.
* Don't talk yourself out of read the cards!
* DON'T SKIP THIS STEP!! Don't allow sabatoging thoughts to stop you from completing this first task.

Kristy
Ps. I am filling mine out right now.

Let me know how you're doing, or if you have questions.

Hi

Just a quick post for now. I hope to post more later tonight. Thank you for the kind comments on my 'victory' yesterday.

Jenn is doing great! Joyce is doing great too! And Sombra is working her "tuckus" off. Good job ladies!! I am very excited to hear about every little victory. I would like to hear more about the challenges and how you are overcoming them. I am very excited also to hear how much we've lost. So let me know. My weigh in day is Sunday.

I am to the point in The Beck Diet solution book where she is suggesting that we do tasks each day. These are designed to help us change our thinking and approach to food. If you wish to participate in these tasks, then please read the previous post where I've listed supplies needed. I will be posting on that tonight or tomorrow.

Changes
A "Cheerleading Section" has been added to the sidebar. These are folks who are not 'members' but are praying for us and cheering us on! Thank you so much to our cheerleading section!!

Our newest member is Marie. Joyce joined last night. Thier stories can be found under the "Our Stories" section.

Telling your story is totally optional. I don't want anyone reading this to think they HAVE to. We are all on the same Journey and it helps to know each others progress and struggles but no one is required to 'tell all'. But to keep the ticker accurate, I would like to at least know the pounds you're trying to lose.

I changed the name of the blog. I wish I could change the link address but I can't without re-doing the whole thing, I know that would send my daughter over the edge.

Joyce's story

Joyce's Story

My name is Joyce and I have a pretty complicated diet history. I was very thin as a child...never had a weight problem at all. When I turned 19 my menstrual periods stopped altogether and then I began to gain weight. I visited doctors and they wanted to put me on birth control pills...it never really worked and I noticed that I was able to gain very easily. We married and I continued to gain at a pretty even pace. I tried every diet out there...didn't loose too much...but I was active. After 6 years of marriage we really wanted to have a baby...we had problems and I found out that I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome otherwise known as PCOS. Their are many symptoms and I have about all of them...anyhow. I am now 44 years old and I want to be healthy and age gracefully. I have quite a bit to lose but I am not choosing to look at how much...I will start with 29 lbs. That is 10%...then when I reach that...I'll go for my second 10% until I am comfortable with myself. Trying to diet with PCOS is a challenge...but I am so tired of not doing it...so I am going to fight really hard.

I am enthusiastic because I joined Weight Watchers last week and have lost 4.2 pounds...I am off to a great start and really want to keep the momentum going. Just being healthy as I age is most important to me...the other benefits of being thin is just the icing on the cake.

More new members and I met a challenge today!!!

We have two new members! Welcome Joyce and Tess. I know Tess from my personal blog, so I am excited to see her here too. Joyce, I am looking forward to getting to know you .

Today (Wednesday), I went to a Wildlife Sanctuary with a friend and her daughter. You can see the pictures on my personal blog Passionforpurple. We had a good time. After we had walked for a long time and saw all the animals, we then went out for lunch, I was nervous for one reason. I wanted to stick to my diet plan. Now, that is hard to do a restaurant, but I did very well!! I ordered thier special and I only ate half of it AND I told them not to bring the chips!!!!. Yeah for me!! I also did not snack off my childrens plates (Ok, I had two french fries) but that's it! And later I restrained myself and had a very light dinner.

Now, I want to hear your challenges and how you've been meeting them this week?? When is your weigh in day? Please report your weight loss to me, so I can post it and celebrate with you.

Our blog is still going through changes. We've added a catagory & created a link to everyones story. More changes are still to come. Thank you so much to my daughter Julia, who has worked so hard to get the template the way I want it.

I don't know much about this book ,but I saw it in my Crossing Book club mailer today. It sounds interesting and right up my alley----------> Nutrition for Dummies.

Moreofhim's story

Moreofhim

I've been overweight all my life, but really put on a lot after my marriage. I lost some of it again and then in January of 2005, I had thyroid cancer surgery and put on 30 pounds that I haven't been able to take off. I could ill afford to put on any weight, let alone 30 pounds!! I need to lose about 140 pounds. Yes - another whole person!! I am doing the "First Place" program and am on an online support program for that. I've had a hard time, though, with all the stress I've been going through lately, but am starting afresh today again. I found out that I can't lose weight without exercising because of the loss of my thyroid, so am thinking of joining "Curves" this week. Anyone else ever been to "Curves"? Did you like it? Did it help? Anyway, I am 45 years old and all this weight is just too much! My knees are going and I can't do anything I want to do anymore. I'm miserable!

Sombra's story

Morelittlewilsons

I'm a 40 year old woman and I'm still of childbearing age, and I hope to have more. Having said that, each pregnancy of course adds it's weight to a woman's body, and each time, if you don't do the work, you just add the pounds up over time.

I'm 5'4" tall and weigh 152#. Now I know by North American standards, that's not so bad. I can still wear size 29 jeans. But my issue isn't so much a huge weight loss problem, rather that with each pregnancy, I get hypertension, the most recent pregancies have made my BP rise immediately, causing me to lose the last 3; 4 in total. And, by the time I'm 6 months pregnant, I can hardly move because the weight on my belly is so heavy, it hurts my back, hurts my stomach muscles - I'm a sad sight. Too many people tell me I should never do this again.

So, in efforts not to be in pain for the last 3+ months, I want to lose weight and strenghthen my body. Perhaps weight loss isn't my big goal, perhaps it's fitness instead of weight loss. I have been exercising fairly rigourously and regularly for the last 6 months. I have not lost a pound. I have not changed my diet. I do not eat many pre-packaged foods, I do most of my own baking and cooking from scratch. I do eat enough Vegetables, but I don't eat much fruit - I know I should increase there. I'm not a low fat eater, neither do I consume low carb or sugar substitute foods. I do not drink pop on a regular basis. I do drink a coffee a day, maybe some iced tea and lots of water (but probably not enough!). I do not know how many calories a day I consume.

I have been recording my working out and body measurments on my blog. I am using some specific clothing items as goal setting. When they fit without bumps, I know I've reached my ultimate goal. For now, I've managed to at least do the buttons up on all the items - that doesn't mean they're comfortable yet. In my perfect world, I'd be 135# and strong.

Withrowfamily's story

Withrowfamily

I was always a "big" kid growing up. In college I managed to get and stay skinny, until the kids came. After the 2nd kid, I've struggled with thyroid problems. Now, I am almost as big as I was when I gave birth to my first baby. So, I need to lose 40 lbs and I could use some support.
