So sorry I haven't blogged in a while guys! I've been busy with our basement, school, that kind of thing. And our basement witch I have'nt told you about yet. qwik report, IT'S DONE!!!!!!

it's awesome! and i get my own room too!!!! I love it! AND, (yes and)I'M almost DONE WITH SCHOOL!!!!!!! Watch out summer, HERE I COME!!!!

NUCLEAR WASTE

Nuclear power has served our world in many ways. It replaces fossil fuels which produce harmful gases. Nuclear power does not make those gases. Therefore, it is classified as a clean, safe way to make electricity. However, people forget about the waste that nuclear plants produce.

Nuclear waste is used matter from nuclear power plants that is radio-active. Fuel rods and dissected nuclear weapons are some of the many kinds of waste. The radiation can have a lifespan of 100,000 years! It is harmful to all living things, so it needs to be disposed of safely.

There are many ways to dispose of nuclear waste, but few are adequately safe. It can be stored in concrete barrels and inside steel containers, stored in caves, put in water pools or buried in the Yucca Mountain mine. All may seem ok, but there are some problems.

Yucca Mountain is an extinct volcano, and is susceptible to seismic activity. Scientists are trying to predict if it will erupt in the next 100,000 years. Also, the water level in the mine is almost at the level of the waste. If the water happens to reach the waste, the water will become poisoned, killing all plants, animals and people. When contained in concrete, few people can live in the area, because it kills all nearby living things. Although some material can be reprocessed, its high cost prevents all of it from being reprocessed.

Reprocessing used fuel rods helps in two different ways. One, it reduces the amount of waste that needs to be stored and, two, less uranium needs to be mined. Reprocessing can be very useful to our world.

Many ideas have been created to dispose of waste safely, but most likely, not many will be put to use. Some of these are as follows; people want to melt used fuel rods and send them

oozing down a deep hole to the bedrock, or they have another idea to bury it in the sand on the bottom of the ocean. The problem with that is that if an earthquake occurred or a volcano erupted, it would severely harm the marine life. Some of my ideas are to put it into some sort of cheap rocket and send it into space, but most likely that would be too expensive. It could also be used in small amounts in other devices.

Nuclear power is a good source of energy which can provide an alternative to fossil fuels, but people need to learn to dispose of the waste safely.

20'000 Leages Under the Sea

I am in the middle of reading 20'000 Leages Under the Sea and am loving it. It is about a submarine in the 1870's that is mistaken for a sea monster. So, a professor named mr. Arronoex,(he's french)joins a U.S. ship the Abraham Lincoln, in search of this monster. When his ship sunk, he soon finds out about the sub and Captain Nemo, it's owner, and that he is a prisoner of war and he shall stay till his death unles he eacapes. So far, he has gone to pearl fisheries in Indonesa, went under Arabia in a subterrean tunnel, and battled natives in Ejept, and are in the Atlantic coming to America, or at least the coast of it. And he and his friends are planing to eacape.gtg, Footballman.

CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN.

Today I read CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN. It was about a family named the Gilbreths who had 12 children. Anne,Mary,Ernestine,Martha,Frank.J.R,Will,Lillian,Fred,Dan,Jack,Bob,and Jane. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbreth were motion study specialists and were always looking for ways to shorten the time it takes to do somthing. They held a family council on sunday after dinner. they discussed family needs at the family council and jobs that needed to be done. They were paid to do them. The lowest bid got a contract. For example, one time Lillian bid 47 cents to paint the backyard fence....of corse, she got the job( she needed that much to by some roller skates she had wanted for a long long time). After 10 days....10 HORRIBLE days, she went to her father sobbing and with blisterd hands said "i'm done papa. Can I have the money now?" "of corse you can!'' Said her Dad.''Also look under your pillow, I have a surprize there.'' She looked and saw a pair of roller skates.Mr. Gilbreth (Frank jr. the author of CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN.) died in 2001(.P.S. his kids are alive and for all I know Ernestine is still alive)
