Reflecting His Grace - Homeschool Blogger

Yes, I AM a princess... my Father is the KING OF KINGS!
Psalm 54:10-11... "Listen O Daughter, give attention and incline your ear: forget your people and your father's house; then the King will desire your beauty. Because he is your Lord, bow down to Him..."

Adios, Amigos...

So, I'm just going to come out and say it. I am done blogging. I've been convicted about wasting time blogging and stuff for a long time now, and I'm finally giving in. This will be my last post... possibly forever. I'll keep up with comments and stuff, and I'll continue through this Super Secret Angel session, but then I'm outta here.
Did you know that wasted time can never, ever be taken back? Once you waste it... *poof*... it's gone forever. Time is precious, and it is fleeting.
In my mind, blogging was one way for me to connect with the homeschool communtity, but guess what? The real, lasting relationships and connections I should be forming are ones with my family and close friends. I have really enjoyed getting to know you guys, and I want to keep reading your blogs from time to time, but I need to take a step back.
So, I know I kinda advertised a contest, and as embarrassing as it is, I'm going to have to retract that. I debated keeping it on, but I really wanted to start a precedent for my friends. In the face of eternity... how important would writing a story be? Not very.
I'll still be on facebook from time to time, but I'm going to be cutting back. E-mail too... I waste too much time online. :)
Peace be with you,
the Princess

A Little Poetry...

Babysitting Night
(An original poem by yours truly)
I walked down the street
To a house on the corner
It wasn't too cold,
But I wished it were wamer.
My job was to sit
With a sweet little baby
I'd feed her, change her,
Play with her maybe.
Her parents left me there,
All squared away,
She in her high chair,
Eating food off her tray.
There I was, thinking,
"My how she's grown!"
Then I heard a noise,
And remembered I wasn't alone.
It was me, and the baby,
(Who's more chubby than fat)
A balding old man,
And a black and white cat.
Pop-Pop is a nice old man,
He likes John Wayne,
And ESPN,
He shuffles along, but uses no cane.
Faith went to bed,
With her blankie and binky
I patted her head,
Thankful her diaper hadn't been stinky.
I read in the quiet,
Just me and my book,
By the light of a lamp,
On a chair, in a nook.
The kitty came up,
And sat next to me,
Begging to be pet,
Then purring happily.
Her parents got back,
We talked for a while,
They paid me for the work,
And I left with a smile.
I go back next week
For rounds two and three,
It should be fun,
It always will be,
When it's me, and the baby
(Who's more chubby than fat)
A balding old man,
And a black and white cat.

Wordsmith Wednesdays: Lord of the Flies

Title: Lord of the Flies
Author: William Golding
Year of Release: 1954 I believe
Notes: very mild profanity, non-graphic murder
What to say about this book... to be honest, I didn't really like it, it was just a tad depressing. Ok, so a lot depressing, I thought. It's about a bunch of British schoolboys that gets marooned on an uninhabited island.
SPOILER ALERT... if you don't want to know what happens, stop reading now.
At least they think it's uninhabited. Apparently there is some weird "beastie" on the island as well. I didn't really understand that very much. It was the Lord of the Flies, and I can't tell if it was a figment of their imagination, or an actual creature that haunted and terrorized them. I'll admit, I was reading really fast to get it over with. :)
The kids aren't very nice to each other, they call one asthmatic overweight boy "Piggy", and make fun of him and don't include him. The leader, Ralph, is a bit selfish and narrow-minded. Another boy, Jack, eventually leaves Ralph and starts his own "tribe" to have more fun. Unfortunately, having more fun means not keeping watch on the fire used to try and signal passing ships.
One of the boys gets killed by the other boys sort of by accident from what I can tell, that part is confusing. They do get rescued eventually, at the very end after some fight with another island's inhabitants. I think. The fight part was confusing too... the whole last chapter I was about to fall asleep, my bad!
So, if you do read this book... I just gave away a bunch of the plot. Sorry. I hope you enjoy it. :)

Wordsmith Wednesdays: To Kill a Mockingbird

Title: To Kill a Mockingbird
Author: Harper Lee
Year of Release: 1960
Notes: mild content involving a rape trial, some profanity
To Kill a Mockingbird is told from the perspective of an 8 year old girl. She is affectionately known as Scout, but her real name is Jean Louise Finch. A tomboy at heart, she enjoys spending time with her brother and her fiancee Dill. She and Dill are "engaged", but he's got to earn some money and grow up before they can get married. The three children are deathly afraid of the legendary Arthur "Boo" Radley that lives next door. Supposedly Boo killed some of his family members and won't leave the house. When Scout and her brother, Jem, decide to find a way to coax Boo out of his hiding place, they nearly get caught by Boo's brother. Their father, Atticus, is an indulging older man and he treats his children well. The children are also cared for by their black nanny/housekeeper/cook, Calpurnia, while their father is at his law office.. She loves the children as her own and doesn't hesitate to keep them in line. When Atticus agrees to defend a black man in a rape trial, his extended family and friends try to make him change his mind. In a society where racism was a second nature to most people, it was practically suicidal to defend a black person against a white person. What happens? Read it for yourself, I don't want to spoil it!

Thoughtful Tuesdays: The Heart of a Woman

"A woman's whole life is a history of the affections. The heart is her world: it is there her ambition strives for empire; it is there her avarice seeks for hidden treasures. She sends forth her sympathies on adventure; she embarks her whole soul on the traffic of affection; and if shipwrecked, her case is hopeless-for it is a bankruptcy of the heart." -Washington Irving
"A requirement of femininity is that a woman devote her life to love-to mother love, to romantic love, to religious love, to amorphous, undifferentiated caring. The territory of the heart is admittedly a province that is open to all, but women alone are expected to make an obsessional career of its exploration, to find whatever adventure, power, fulfillment or tragedy life has to offer within its bounds. There is no question that a woman is apt to feel more feminine, more confident of her interior gender makeup, when she is reliably within some stage of love-even the girlish crush or the stage of unrequited love or a broken heart. Men have suffered for love, and men have accomplished great feats in the name of love, but what man has ever felt at the top of his masculine form when he is lovesick or suffering from heartache?" -Susan Brownmiller
"It is certainly not new or startling to find that women feel the desire to take care of their children. What is new is the number of women who are startled by such feelings." Elaine Heffner

Music Mondays... my mp3 collection.

You can tell a lot about a person by the music they enjoy. Worldview, morals, and personality can shine through the melodies to form a picture in your mind. Music is such a powerful part of our culture.
Last year I was given an mp3 player by my grandpa. He wasn't using his anymore, and I didn't mind a hand-me-down. It's not your top of the line Cadillac mp3 player, but it fits my purposes. Also, I got a Wal-Mart gift card for the online mp3 download store thingy. I finally got around to using it. Here's what I got:
Rascal Flatts: "Bless the Broken Road"
                      "Long Slow Beautiful Dance"
                      "Secret Smile"
                      "Take Me There"

Sonny & Cher: "I Got You Babe"

Toby Keith: "Love Me If You Can"

Tree63: "Sunday!"

Amy Adams: "That's How You Know" (From the Enchanted soundtrack)

98 Degrees and Stevie Wonder: "True To Your Heart"
If you didn't know already, you can probably see that my music taste is varied. I like oldies, pop, country, show tunes... if you need further proof, you can check out my playlist above. :) I really like Rascal Flatts, I got one of their cds for my birthday from my brothers.
I think I'm finally settled enough to start blogging regularly again! YAY! I will be gone from this Friday-Tuesday though. I'm going on a little work vacation with my dad. I'm off to listen to my new music!

Ok, so once again I'm being a bad girl... not sticking with the schedule. But today is special, so it's ok. :)
IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
The big 1-7...
I'm going to have a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing, and some cookie dough ice cream. For my birthday dinner, I requested Ranch Breaded Tilapia (fish, duh) with Cajun Sweet Potato Fries. And applesauce. :)
That's about all there is to say about it. I haven't opened presents yet really, OH, but I did get 2 Natalie Grant cds from my grandparents. That was cool!
