Historic Snowfall in England!

On the first Friday morning of February, we awoke to an immense snowfall. It lasted all morning and we just had to come out to experience it.

We had been told the week before that a cold front from Russia would be settling over the British Isles for at least 2 weeks. This has been an accurate forecast. It is still cold and snow is slowly melting. The last significant snowstorm that stayed on the ground for several days was back in the early 1980s. We have always lived in mild climates so this was our first time to have snow stay on the ground around us. It snows everywhere else and we only hear about it. The kids were especially happy about it. Even the Brits were pleased and joyful over the snow the covered our hill.
Luckily, there are a few places on the Common where kids can really "sledge" (That's British for "sledding").

Willow doing her duty: Keeping the Common signs cleaned so that people know where they are! hehe.

This is a photo of the Bear of Rodborough Hotel that is located just down the road from us. This day was a sight to behold. Practically all of England stopped that day because there is no more salt and sand to be spread on the roads. They ran out! But most of its inhabitants didn't seem to mind. They stayed home and enjoyed the unique experience that might not come again for a very, very long time.

This has been a memorable winter week for us. So much fun!!!
