OFF TO A GOOD START

WELL WE STARTED OUR SCHOOL YEAR ON THE 8TH . I SO FAR HAVE DONE WELL AT KEEPING TO OUR SCHEDULE. WHICH REALLY ALLOWS THINGS TO FLOW. WE HAD SOME ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENTS THE FIRST TWO WEEKS . WE ARE USING A MISH MOSH OF CURRICULUM THIS YEAR. ABEKA, BOB JONES, ACE, ROD AND STAFF. IM PROBLEY LEAVING SOMETHING OUT. ZACH IS IN 10TH , JAKE IS 8TH( HAS BEEN MY STRUGGLING LEARNER TIL NOW! IS IMPROVING IN HIS READING SKILLS SO MUCH I WAS ABLE TO PLACE HIM IN 8TH!) AND MY DAUGHTER SARAH IS IN 5TH. FOR THOSE INTERESTED THIS IS WHAT OUR SCHEDULE LOOKS LIKE: WAKE UP /EAT/DRESS 8 AM BIBLE 9 AM READING ENGLISH SPELLING 9:30AM BREAK 10:30 AM MATH 11:00 AM LUNCH 12:00 PM HISTORY 1:00 PM SCIENCE 1:30 PM ART/MUSIC ETC 2:00 PM NOW WE ALSO HAVE THE REST OF THE DAY SCHEDULED TOO... MY OLDEST DOESNT FOLLOW OUR SCHEDULE HES MOSTLY AN INDEPENDANT LEARNER . WE JUST USE THE BIBLE AND THE LEADING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TO LEARN GODS WORD. FOR READING WE HAVE OLD ABEKA READERS AND WE READ FOR 20 MINUTES M-TH TOGETHER AND FRIDAY IS COMPREHENSION TIME READING QUIETLY. ENGLISH IS BJU 6TH GRADE FOR BOTH YOUNGER KIDS SPELLING IS JUST A LIST I GIVE THEM EACH MONDAY .THEY HAVE TO WRITE THEM 5X AND GIVE A SENTENCE FOR EACH AND TESTED ON FRIDAYS. NEXT YR I MAY VENTURE INTO THE SPELLING NOTEBOOK METHOD. MY OLDEST USED ABEKA PLUS HAS LITERATURE. MATH IS BJU FOR MY OLDEST (GEOMETRY) SAXON FOR MY TWO YOUNGER ONES HISTORY..WE USE ACE 8TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDY AND I READ TO THEM AND HAVE HANDS ON FOR GEOGRAPHY AS MUCH AS WE ARE ABLE. MY OLDEST USES BJU. SCIENCE MY OLDEST USES ABEKA BIOLOGY PLUS LABS, AND MY MIDDLE IS USING ACE , MY DAUGHTER IS USING ROD AND STAFF( I LOVE IT !!) I ALSO HAVE ABEKA ART FOR MY DAUGHTER. I WILL BE GETTING BJU GUITAR LESSON BOOK FOR MY OLDEST SOON. WELL THATS WHAT WE DO. SO FAR ITS WEEK 3 AND WE ARE GETTING USE TO WAKING UP EARLIER. LAST YEAR MY HUSBAND I HAD A RESTAURANT AND IT WAS SO HARD TO HOMESCHOOL AND HELP MY HUBBY ..I WENT IN MORNINGS AND MY SON WORKED LUNCH. BUT WE DID IT. WE HAD TO CLOSE OUR BUSINESS WHICH IS OK. I FEEL BLESSED TO GIVEN THIS TIME AGAIN SO I REALLY WANT TO BE A GOOD STEWARD OF THIS TIME GOD HAS GIVEN US.

It is amazing to me how fast time goes by . Its been since Oct 16 since my last entry. Wow.

This is a homeschool blog so i will blog about homeschooling. Our hsing year is almost done til we take a break for summer;although we will continue in reading, cursive practive and multiplication practice. May 29th is our last day. This year was more challenging then others but at the same time more exciting. My husband and I have a restaurant now and we had a bit of a hard time trying to figure out how to have me at the restaurant plus effectively hs the kids. We finally after many trials and errors we found out what works. I go in while the kids are sleeping. I go in at 5am and help open up and take care of breakfast shift and my oldest hes 15 in 2 wks wakes up @7AM. And is independant in his studies. Then @ 10 or sometimes 9:30 i go pick up my oldest and bring him in and he works til 2 or 3..then we close(during tues-thursday) anyway..i come back home and teach the younger 2.

This year has been one of my favorite years because I have taken on more of a go with the flow approach and we have had more fun with science and history and just relaxed more..we have still had those days we all tend to have. But I seem to lean more and more towards some what the Charlotte Mason Methods..although i don't proclaim to know all of her ideas. Well i will enter more later..i have to go get the hubby and son...God Bless!!!

ITS BEEN SO LONG SINCE MY LAST ENTRY. LIFE AS YOU ALL KNOW GETS SO BUSY. SO MANY NEW THINGS ARE HAPPENING AND HAVE HAPPENED SINCE MY LAST ENTRY. LET ME START BY SAYING I AM MY HUSBANDS 2ND WIFE. HE HAS THREE CHILDREN FROM THAT MARRIAGE. THE KIDS GREW UP WITH OUT HIM FOR REASONS I WONT DISCUSS. WELL ITS BEEN 18YRS SINCE HES SEEN THEM..UNTIL ABOUT A MONTH AGO HE HADNT EVEN SPOKE TO THEM. WELL THROUGH AN EMAIL I SENT TO THERE HALF SISTER WE WERE ABLE TO GIVE THEM OUR CONTACT INFO AND LOW AND BEHOLD ..ON A SAT AFTERNOON WHILE CLOSING OUR RESTAURANT(ANOTHER NEW THING I WILL SHARE) WE GOT A CALL FROM THE OLDEST SON BRIAN WHO IS 28. WHAT A BLESSINGS..AFTER SOME AWKWARDNESS AND SORRYS ..FORGIVENESS.. WE FIND OUT WE HAVE A DAUGHTER IN AND LAW AND A GRANDDAUGHTER!! ACTUALLY ALTOGETHER WE HAVE FOUR GRANDCHILDREN~!!!! OUR SON(MY STEP) ADAM IS A LITTLE CAUTIOUS AT THIS POINT..BUT THE SAT BEFORE LAST WE RECIEVED ANOTHER CALL FROM OUR DAUGHTER RACHEL!!! AND BEFORE WE KNEW IT MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING TO WHERE SHE LIVES TO PICK HER AND HER BABY UP FOR A WEEK LONG VISIT! WE ARE SO OVERWHELMED WITH GODS PLAN AND HOW IT IS COMING TOGETHER. 18 YRS OF A PRAYER.. GOD MADE A WAY WHERE WE COULDNT SEE A WAY..THROUGH GOD THE KIDS HAVE FORGIVEN MY HUSBAND AND THE THREE CHILDREN MY DH HAVE TOGETHER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO START A RELATIONSHIP WITH THERE HALF SIBLINGS. MY STEP DAUGHTER AND MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER LOOK SO MUCH A LIKE ITS AMAZING.. WE TRUST THAT GOD WILL CONTINUE TO GROW THE RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH OF THESE ADULT CHILDREN. THEY HAVE EMBRACED ME AND THERE SIBLINGS THEY DIDNT KNOW EXISTED UP TIL A MONTH AGO.. OK NOW THE NEXT NEW THING.

MY HUSBAND IS A CHEF (BY TRADE) AND HAS ALWAYS DREAMED OF HAVING HIS OWN RESTAURANT. WE HAD ONE A LONG TIME AGO THAT JUST DIDNT MAKE IT . WELL GOD HAVE THAT PASSION TO MY HUSBAND AGAIN AND AUGUST 13. WE OPENED OUR DOORS TO OUR RESTUARANT CORNERSTONE RESTUARANT. ITS BEEN A STRUGGLE TO GROW BUT IT DOES CONTINUE TO GROW. SO MANY BLESSINGS AT ONCE!

WELL THE THIRD NEW THING IS WE PUT OUR DAUGHTER IN A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL A HOP SKIP AND JUMP FROM THE RESTAURANT. I STILL HAVE MIXED FEELINGS BUT ITS A VERY VERY SMALL SCHOOL AND THEY HAVE FOUR DAYS THEN THREE DAYS ROTATION.. I STILL HOMESCHOOL THE BOYS IN THE RESTAURANT WHICH IS HARD SOME DAYS. I MISS MY DAUGHTER WHEN SHES NOT THERE BUT SHE IS DOING SO WELL THERE BUT IT IS EXPENSIVE AND WE ARE LEANING ON GOD TO MAKE A WAY . I WELCOME ANYONES COMMENTS OR EXPERIENCES ON ANYTHING IVE SHARED. IM SURE THERES OTHER THINGS BUT I WILL KEEP AS IT IS.

ITS BEEN AWHILE SINCE I LAST POSTED AN ENTRY..SEEMS TO BE THAT WAY FOR ME. I LAST POSTED ABOUT THE LITTLE GIRL NAMED ANGELA THAT WE TOOK INTO OUR HOME BECAUSE HER PARENTS ARE IN JAIL. SHES BEEN HERE NOW FOR ALMOST 5 MONTHS. SINCE I LAST WROTE SHES BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH CROHNS DISEASE. WHICH IS A DISEASE WHERE THE IMUNE SYSTEM IN THE INTESTINES GOES HAYWIRE AND ATTACKS IT SELF AND CAUSES INFLAMATION, BLEEDING AND DIAREAH AND STOMACH PAIN AFTER EATING. ITS VERY RAIR FOR A CHILD AT AGE 5 TO HAVE IT. IT CAN BE HEREDITARY. HER MOTHER HAS IT VERY BAD. ANGELA IS DOING BETTER NOW SINCE SHE WAS PUT ON ANTI INFLAMATORY MEDS. THE FAMILY HAS ADJUSTED WELL TO HAVING HER HERE BUT SHE WILL LIKELY BE GOING EARLY JUNE.. WE ARE PRAYING ABOUT WHAT TO DO .. SHE WASNT IN A GOOD SITUATION BEFORE..I WONT GET INTO DETAILS.. ANYONE WHO READS THIS PLEASE PRAY WE DO WHAT GOD WANTS NOT WHAT WE SEE WITH OUR EYES. WE CAN MAKE QUICK JUDGEMENTS BASED ON WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID AND BASED ON HOW OTHERS HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST. IF HER MOM HAS MADE A TRUE TRANSFORMATION I PRAY GOD WILL REVEAL IT TO ME SO I CAN FEEL FREE IN GIVING HER DAUGHTER BACK. THE DAD ALSO NEEDS PRAYER HE SHOWS NO OUTWARD SIGNS OF CHANGE. MY INTEREST IS IN WHAT IS BEST FOR ANGELA. SHE HAS A RELATIVE WHO IM HOPING WITH TAKE HER IN. THE SAME RELATIVE HAS HER BABY BROTHER AND IS ALMOST FINISHED ADOPTING HIM. OK NOW ON TO HOMESCHOOL NEWS.

THERE ISNT MUCH TO TELL..LOL ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR WHERE WE SEEM TO HAVE TO PUSH THROUGH. GOD HAS REVEALED WHY THIS IS HAPPENING AND WE ARE MAKING THE CHANGES. I ORDERED TIMES TALES DELUXE WITH DIVISION AND ITS AMAZING HOW FAST IT WORKS! MY DAUGHTER WHO IS 8 KNOWS HER MULTIPLICATION! MY SON WHO HAD BEEN STRUGGLING IS DOING GOOD WITH IT TOO.. I LOVE IT! I HAVE MORE TO SHARE BUT NEED TO FINISH THAT LATER.

SINCE MY LAST ENTRY MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN SICK AND NOW RECOVERING . SHES NOT HAD SCHOOL (EXCEPT LIFE 101)FOR ABOUT A WEEK. MY SON STARTED FEELING SICK LAST NIGHT BUT SEEMS TO BE DOING BETTER WITH IT THEN MY DD. "SCHOOLING" SEEMS TO BE DRAGGING A BIT BUT THATS THE NORM IT SEEMS FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. I AM LEARNING FIRST HAND ABOUT THE PUBLIC SCHOOL ARENA. STILL A BIT DIFFERENT. ITS HARD TO PUT OUR NEW LITTLE GIRL ON THAT BIG BUS EACH EARLY COLD MORNING. I SO WOULD LOVE TO KEEP HER HOME WITH US. SHE WAS PLAYING THE OTHER DAY AND SAID SHE WAS GONA HAVE HER DADDY HOMESCHOOL HER WHEN HE GETS HOME. I THOUGHT THAT WAS SWEET. SHE KNOWS THE TOGETHERNESS THAT HAPPENS WITH KIDS THAT STAY HOME . I STILL TRY TO TEACH HER WHAT I CAN AFTER SHE GETS HOME..WHICH IS NOT TIL 4:20PM. SHES SUCH A JOY TO HAVE IN OUR FAMILY. I KNOW THE DAY WILL COME THAT SHE RETURNS TO HER DAD BUT I FEEL SO BLESSED TO BE ENTRUSTED (ALONG WITH MY HUBBY OF COURSE) WITH HER. MY HEART BRAKES FOR HER..I KNOW SHE IS SAD CAUSE SHES NOT WITH HER MOM AND DAD. IF I COULD ID MAKE IT ALL BETTER FOR HER I WOULD. GOD CAN THOUGH. HE WILL IN HIS WAY AND IN HIS TIME. I TOOK HER TO SEE HER DADDY AT THE JAIL AND HE WAS EMOTIONAL AS EXPECTED SHES A BIT BOTTLED UP. IF ANYONE READS THIS PLEASE PRAY FOR THIS LIL GIRL AND HER DAD AND MOM. THEY DO LOVE EACHOTHER BUT THEY NEED THE HEALING ONLY GOD AND THERE CHOSING CAN ONLY BRING. THANK YOU.

I CANT REMEMBER IF I TALKED ABOUT CERTAIN PEOPLE IN OUR LIFE HAD BEEN TRYING TO COUNCIL US AND TELL US WE SHOULD PUT OUR CHILDREN IN PUBLIC SCHOOL... JUST TO TRY IT AND SEE. OUR FINANCES ARENT WHAT THEY NEED TO BE. OF COURSE I PRAYED FOR GOD TO TELL US WHAT HE WOULD HAVE US TO DO AND WE FEEL HE WANTS US TO CONTINUE TO HOMESCHOOL. WHEN TIMES GET REAL TUFF AND I TAKE MY EYES OFF OF GOD FOR A BIT THAT THOUGHT," WELL ,BOY IT WOULD BE EASIER TO PUT THEM IN PS. I COULD WORK AND WE WOULDN'T STRUGGLE SO". BUT THEN GOD GETS MY ATTENTION AGAIN AS HE IS SO GOOD AT DOING.. AND I REALIZE, THIS IS OUR MINISTRY.OUR CHILDREN AND AS WE KNOW ANY MINITRY GOD HAS GIVEN US COMES AT A PRICE SOMETIMES...A PRICE WELL WORTH IT. OUR HARD WORK AND STRUGGLES ARE NOW BUT WE WILL SEE GODS GLORY IN MY CHILDREN SOMEDAY. WE WILL SEE WHY HES CALLED US TO DO THIS DIFFICULT TASK. GOD HAS A PURPOSE AND PLAN FOR EACH OF OUR LIVES AND WE CANT LIVE ON WHAT MAKES SENSE ALL THE TIME..GODS WAYS ARENT ALWAYS OUR WAYS...GOD HAS PUT SUCH DEAR FRIEND(SISTA) IN MY LIFE WHO KNOWS MY HEART AND WILL SIT AND LISTEN TO MY BELLY ACHES AND CRYS AND I KNOW SHE UNDERSTANDS AND I KNOW SHE WILL ALWAYS GIVE ME A WORD FROM THE LORD..OR A TESTIMONY FROM HER LIFE OR SOMEONE ELSES..SHE KNOWS WHO SHE IS.. Time flys way to fast..its hard to keep up..well let me bring you all up to date. Well lets start with school: We started out strong and with in about two weeks my husband went to the hospital with a suspected heart attack. Well praise God he was ok and put on a cardiac diet...he had to stay the night so school was put off for two days then...ok now we are about two weeks in to oct...(that heart thingy happen the end of sept) A man from our church needed a home for his little girl cause he messed up and has to go back to jail and do rehab..so i said id take her in if needed so she can stay in school (shes public schooled in Kindergarden) so he took me up on it in a matter of a few days of offering she was moved in with bed, dresser and clothes and toys..

Her name is Angela and she is 5 yrs old. Her parents are both in jail and or rehab and have been in and out since she was born. God has given me such a burden for this child..ive taught her on wednesday nights for about a year and half now. She has the blondest hair and she has such a sweet nature. She can be wild at times but her sweetness and manners just over ride that. Shes been here for almost a week and has been sick the whole week but feeling better. Part of having her here is my adventure..and her being in Public school is the others..as i learn how to be a parent to a child i will have to say goodbye to in 6-9 mos to a life of uncertainty and the other learning how the system oporates and feeling like a foreigner and i watch this little child step up on the bus step and go with a bus driver ive never met to a school full of adults i barely know. God has a perfect plan in all this and i know his name will be glorfied in the end of this adventure. Its gona be a wild ride for sure. I will be sharing my hands on understanding of the differences of my homeschooling my own children with the public schooling of Angela. Well I think thats it for now.. i will return to share more. Please pray for Angela that she is in whos ever hands he would have them to be in. And that His protection and love will continue to cover her no matter where shes at. Thank you!

I NEED TO TAKE MORE TIME FOR MY BLOG!

Well I here I am again and time has gotten away once again. I find myself having to catch up with my blog. Seems to be with friends as well.

A lot has happened since I last blogged. I have a job now working part time nights. Its hard to leave the kids but my husband is so good with them. I dont have to be to work til 8 pm. The kids go to bed soon after that. It has me at times feeling a bit disconnected. God will sort it all out im sure.

I found a homeschool basketball team that my son is on now..they start practicing in the fall. I took my son for his shots(way late for them) and the Dr. examined him and gave him an extra thourough exam. Ask some questions and ask if we had any Marfan Syndrome in our families. I said no. He listened to my son heart. Now we have to take him to a Cardiologist in Roanoke (probley spelled wrong). Hes not sure if hes just genetically tall or possible has this genetic problem. My son is 13 just turned 13 in May and is 5'10 3/4 (at dr's he messured that. We messure an inch taller regardless my son is off the charts on height. Very hugh hands and fingers and very large feet(size 13). He has some other minor characteristics as well. Hes never had heart issues but we are just playing it safe. I have peace about it.

We havent descided when to start schooling again..Either mid Aug or Early Sept. I have been selling my old books on ebay and have been able to get all the ones i need for this year (except a few odds and ends) Im looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

My middle son shows signs of dislexia. I heard that Explode the code is good for someone who has dislexia. Id really like some ideas on how to teach him..so if anyone who has children who have dislexia please feel free to comment below. I found a few things on hslda.org and it was helpful in doing some little tests at home . Hes 11 and a struggling reader..I love him so much. I just want the best for him. I dont want to force him into anyone elses mold i just want him to read the best he can and to write the best he can and be who God calls him to be. I desire that for all three of my children. Well I hope i can come back and share some more alot more frequently than i have been. Heres my precious babies! They are growing way to fast.

Boy I haven't blogged in a long time. I guess I can start with the fact that we are still going strong with homeschooling. Its still a hugh blessing. I am now "preschooling" a 5 year old. Her name is Bianca and shes the daughter of women I go to church with. My son Zach is growing up faster than i can keep up with. He is growing into a wonderful person. Jacob is also started his fast growing just like his bro is doing. Loves adventure and his temper matches his red hair but he is my sweety and has such a big heart! Sarah is in her new stage in her lil life, full of love and life and never a dull moment and she loves to talk. They are all learning so much.

We are very settled where we are in the mountains of Va. Spring is coming soon and Im very excited about that. I feel so blessed! I hope I can take more time to keep up to date with my blog. Well Im gona go now ..my darling hubby just got home and im sure he wants some coffee.

Our life since May.........

Its been since May since my last entry. We moved to a house since then! ITs fantastic! Lots of room. The kids each have there own room.

Its been a busy busy summer. The kids had camp. My 12 year had his 1st year in Youth Camp. He loved it and cant wait until next summer. A week after he had camp my 10 yr old and 6 year old had camp (Camp Frog) I was a camp councilor and My 12 year old was Jr camp councilor for the boys cabin. We all had a blast.

Our church has started a new thing where the parents take turns with the kids while the rest go out for a date. We do that twice a month. Its been so wonderful to reconnect with my husband. Our turn is coming up Sept 22.

We have a puppy now(not sure if i mentioned that before) He is sooo cute. His name is Mr. Tumnus. And we have a kitten name Aslan. They are the best of buds. Both were born in March so they will grow up together.

I have been busy buying books for the kids for the new "school year". I am so excited about this year. I guess I can share what I am doing this year for the kids.

Zach is 12 and in 7th. I asked him what he wanted to use this year and he chose Abeka. He loves it. Not so sure I would have at his age but he loves it and does well with it. For Language Arts/Literature we are using Learning Language Arts Through Literature. I am using that for all three. Jacob is 10 hes not on a specific grade level. He is using Saxon 6/5. And the yellow book for LLATL. And Abeka Science and History. Sarah is 6 soon to 7 and shes in 2nd. Im using the red books for LLATL and Abeka Math, Science and History, Health. I am still praying about what to use for Bible Devotions. I am leaning towards CLP. We shall see how things go this year and adjust where things need adjustment. I am never locked into anything. I just use what the kids are going at a regular pace with and if they are struggling or getting too frustrated or even bored with something I am willing to rethink things. I got most of the books through Ebay! What a wonderful resource. It saved me soooo soo much money. I didn't have too much money this year for books. We are going to start school Sept 4. (i know its Labor Day..I will make sure they know what that means..LOL) Well I think I have my blog up to date now. I hope it isnt too long before I blog again. I just get soo busy as Im sure many of you do. Well Have a blessed Day!! Sorry this is so long.

UPDATE on past Prayer Requests

I had requested prayer for my brother and his family..the update is that they are doing great. They went to my church Sunday! They are going to stay together and now have people in there life that can guide and fellowship with them and help them with there new walk with Jesus. My other brother is moving back to va!! God is doing amazing things. I was also praying to be able to buy books for new school yr and I found a few good things at great prices on ebay.

If anyone has ever used: Learning Language Arts Through Literature I'd sure appreciate your opinion on it. I ordered it for my oldest and and my youngest I just need a students Red book for grade 2 , I have the readers and the tg. My children are bored with hsing. I want it to be fun ..i know it won't always be but i want them to connect learning with a pleasant experience.

I had also requested for a friends son who broke his finger. He is doing fine now and is healed!! My husband is in need of healing,...he was playing football with the kids and twisted and fell and is hurt on his side. He missed a day of work. He never calls out unless its serious so please pray .
