Today was a great day of thrift shopping.

We went to a thrift shop and I spent, oh, an hour or so in the books.

Here’s what I found:

Republic of Plato – Some of Plato’s writings about politics.

Credit for literature and government.

The Odyssey – Oh yes! I’ve been looking for this Greek classic

by Homer for a long time!

The Doctors Book of Home Remedies – Thousands of tips and techniques anyone

can use to heal everyday health problems.

I’m studying in the herbal/natural remedy field

for my future as a missionary’s wife.

The Bantam Medical Dictionary – All the fun medical words anyone could think of!

Safely Working With Chemicals in The Laboratory – To compliment my Chemistry,

I thought this was pretty neat.

New Choices In Natural Healing – Definitely what I’m going for!

Clinical Neuroanatomy for Medical Students – This was SO neat!

It’s a college course of Neuroanatomy and gets deep into it and also includes

‘Clinical Situations’: where it gives specific problems with a person

and tells you to diagnose it, explain what’s malfunctioning, and much more!

How To Be Your Own Doctor (Sometimes) – Another medical reference.

Home Guide To Emergency Medical Situations – Emergencies that must be treated; choking, unconsciousness, heart attacks, seizures,, etc…

with procedures such as CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, closed heart massage, etc…

Very useful!

Well, I had a lot of fun today!

He Went A Little Further...

As I listened to this sermon by Scott Pauley,

it really spoke to my heart and I wanted to share my convictions on it.

It’s a great Easter message, too.

The text was on Matthew 26:36-50, when Jesus prayed and was betrayed.

In verse 39, we see “And he went a little further…”

Sometimes we are content just not going to hell. But shame on us!

We need to want to be one of His disciples, and want to follow Him wherever He leads.

We are, as Christians, commanded to follow His steps.

For us, Jesus was betrayed, mocked, beaten, and whipped horrendously.

But did He stop there?

No. He went a little further.

He picked up a cross, and walked all the way to Golgotha.

He could have stopped there, said it was enough, and ascended into heaven.

But He didn’t. He went even further.

He was nailed to a cross to hang there, our sins were poured on Him,

and He was forsaken by God.

But He didn’t stop there! He went further still.

He gave up the ghost and was put in a tomb.

He didn’t stop there, praise the Lord!

He rose and lives forever now, but He’s

going even further and is coming back for us!

Now the least, the very least we could do is go a little further for Him.

Let’s become what Jesus saved us to be.

Many of us tend to agree to serve and surrender only parts of our lives.

We draw a line and say “That’s as far as I go” or “I’m staying where I am”…

but the best joys, God’s best blessings, and the best of our lives is right over that line.

We are never completely happy unless we surrender everything to Jesus.

5 points to going further for Him were listed:

1. We must be willing to go alone.

It’s easy when others go, and if we obey, others may follow us;

but we still must be willing to go alone.

God’s waiting for us to come to Him, love Him more, and surrender all.

2. We must be willing to humble ourselves.

Do you want to be like Jesus?

Gotta humble yourself!

He was made a bondservant;

a happiness and a blessing comes with serving Jesus and others.

There are hundreds and thousands waiting for us to humble ourselves.

God won’t fully bless us unless we’re willing to humble ourselves.

3. We must be willing to pray “Thy will be done.”

The motto of the Christian life!

‘Ordinary’ Christianity isn’t it.

We must be seeking and willing to do what the Lord wants.

“And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying,

O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me:

nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” verse 39.

Nothing more or less than His will.

The happiest place is in God’s will.

God’s will is perfect and wonderful!

If we go one step toward Jesus, He’ll take you all the way.

Let Him know, and He’ll guide you through.

4. We must try to encourage others to do the same.

When a person truly loves Jesus, they naturally encourage others.

We must stand up and lead somebody else.

5. We must be willing to stand in the face of the enemy.

“And Jesus said unto him [Judas], Friend…”

Our heart needs to stay stirred.

We should be saying “I don’t care what comes. I’ll be faithful and take another step.”

Jesus is our example and motive.

We mustn’t be willing to die someday for Jesus

if we’re not willing to live for Him.

It’s time to go a little further.

I just wanted to express my deep appreciation

and thankfulness for everyone’s prayers for my medical issues.

It really means SO much to me that so many people are praying for me.

Thank you all SO much for your prayers!

I plan, as soon as I’m able, to return comments to

those who have left some on my blog.

I also apologize that I haven’t posted in a while…

I hope to do so in a few daysJ!

During my time of doing practically nothing,

I’ve been blessed with plenty of time to

converse and fellowship with my Jesus.

I’ve also been able to listen to sermons on my

Cd player and take some notes-

which I’m planning on posting soon.

I’ve also been able to catch up on lots of reading

I’ve longed to do for a while!

Well, thank you again for all your prayers!

All Day For One Task... My First Dress!!!

Today was a day unlike most.

I got up around 10, ate breakfast, and decided to sew.

Yesterday I cut out my fabric for a dress pattern we ordered a while ago…

I literally started sewing at 11 and just stopped hardly 15 minutes ago! (8:30 pm)

Mom joined me all day to make 2 more t-shirt dresses for the children

and started on the same pattern for a dress of her own.

This was my very first dress I made on my own… which can be tedious work…

But, after literally all day, I was glad to finally finish my sewing project!

I was determined to get it done today so I could wear it to church tomorrow,

and I’m glad to be finished.

Mom and I were teasing throughout sewing, “Shall we gather…”;

sometimes replacing ‘river’ with ‘bodice’.

Well, I thought I’d share my new dress.

I plan to make more of the same pattern.

It’s from Common Sense Patterns and pattern number 416E – ‘Women’s Square Neck Dress’.

A Thoughtful Gift and The Monthly Thought...

Howdy y'all!

So sorry it’s been a long period of time since I wrote last.

I’ve been quite occupied with my education and reading.

Besides, typing isn’t the best choice for me currently, so I have to keep this short.

I thought I’d share a thoughtful gift that I received yester night from

my youth Pastor and his wife, with whom I’m well acquainted with.

So cute!

It is something that they told me about earlier, that they enjoyed.

It’s a bulb Hyacinth plant.

All you do is put water in the vase with the bulb on the top,

and watch it grow from the bottom and the top!

So thoughtful!

Also, I thought I’d share the 'thought' (poem) of this month and last’s while I have them on hand…

February-

Hit the deck! Snow up to your neck!

It’s variable; some might say terriable!

Mercury plummets, snow on the summits.

This week’s bright and beamish.

This is not for the squeamish!

March-

Use this hiatus, a new storm’s here to inundate us!

The UFO, the experts say, is called the “sun”,

But it’s gone away.

Just a note, because the grammar is extremely inadequate, I don’t make these up!

Another note, Dad and I once teased that the UFO, when referring to the sun,

is an acronym for ‘Unidentified FRYING object’!

HAPPY MARCH!!!!!

Hand-performed and Home-done Hair Styles

For Christmas I got a self-hair styling book, and ever since,

I’ve been trying new hairstyles; on myself and people who will let me.

Although there’s almost a whole section (a pretty one, too)

that I have to skip because my hair is too long.

(An oxymoronically good bad thing, I suppose!)

I’ve personally favored putting my hair up in a bun,

which I was never able to do until it showed me in 3 simple steps

and now I wear my hair in a bun when I feel like putting it that way.

Not lately because I’ve been and still am very sick.

I’ve never been able to do buns, so this was a great accomplishment for me!

Excuse the thin hairs poking out here and there,

my hair is very hard to handle.

I’ve also done a sloppy French herringbone, French braid,

braided chignon, and a regular herringbone on myself,

but haven’t had photographs of them.

On friends I’ve done twists, rolled braids, French braids,

herringbones, and French herringbones.

Again, I didn’t get photographs.

But today, my dear sister Beth was kind enough to lend me her

doll for a few minutes to try a ‘not so sloppy’ French herringbone on her.

And I can definitely do them better on others than myself!

(Though I’m better at French braids on myself than on others)

I like that style, and perhaps I’ll practice more on myself.

Well, January’s almost over, and I didn’t give the poem of December,

so I’ll give January’s real quick:

“Sunshine, flurries, & frozen pipe worries.

Testing easing – coastal blow, island snow!

Melt song won’t last long.

Chilled to the core worth waiting for!

Sled dogs mush through rain and slush!”

Well, I’ll be going so mom can detoxify the premises I’m currently occupying.

Live Each Day As Your Last

Do you ever feel like you’ve been a failure?

Like you try hard but it seems like you can

never be the person God wants you to be?

Or feel like you’re wasting time and aren’t doing anything for the Lord?

I have!

There are so many times I know what I should be doing,

but I do what I want to do instead,

thinking “I can do that later” or “I can quit this later”.

Twice in the Bible it talks about redeeming the time.

(Ephesians 5:16 and Colossians 4:5)

Because when this life is over, only what’s done for Christ will last.

Like in a few posts ago, I shared that song ‘Only One Life’,

we only have one chance to do the Lord’s will.

Today in Sunday school, we read,

“For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing,

whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Ephesians 12:14

EVERY thing we do will appear at the judgment seat of Christ.

Now that’s kind of a scary thought!

I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in ourselves,

we don’t keep it straight in our minds that God’s watching us,

He knows EVERY thought, action, desire, & imagination.

And sometimes, when the Lord reveals what we’ve been doing,

we may say “oh, I’m sorry, forgive me Lord!” and then go and do it again!

The fact is, we don’t know how long we’re going to be here.

God can take us whenever He pleases.

So, a trick is to live each day as your last.

If this was your last day on earth, how would you spend it?

Life is only so long- made up of so many days, hours,

and minutes to make the right choice.

Once that time goes by, there’s no pushing rewind and redoing

it the way it should have been done.

Now death isn’t the only thing that will end our chance.

Jesus says,

“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day

nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 25:13

He also says,

“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all

these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” Luke 21:36

We are commanded to watch, for Jesus may come anytime!

Before we do something, we might want to think, “

"Would I want to be doing this when Jesus comes back?”

Now sometimes we think, “I just can’t! I’ve tried! It’s too hard!”

But God tells us that,

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13

Just ask Him for the strength and He’ll give it to you.

Like I said in a previous post, God gives us the strength to do what He commands.

God doesn't want us to feel like failures.

He will give us the victory!

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us

the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1Corinthians 15:57

I encourage you to live each day as your last.

Watch for Jesus, He’ll be here any minute!

Delightful Day, Dangerously Delicious Desert, and Done!

Sorry I haven’t written in a while.

I’ve been really busy getting school started back up again and errands.

Anyway, Tuesday, my friends came over for lunch and dinner.

We had lots of fun and we ended up baking – which we love to do,

you can see from other posts a while back!

We decided on a chocolate cake we’d never tried before, and started with our alterations:

½ cup butter or margarine

2 cups sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

2 cups flour

½ cup packed cocoa

2 tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 ½ cups milk

Beat butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla.

In separate bowl, combine all dry ingredients;

Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.

Pour in a greased and floured baking pan.

Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.

Let cool in pan for 20 minutes,

then cool on wire rack before frosting.

The frosting recipe given was:

½ cup margarine, softened

2 ½ cups powdered sugar

½ cup baking cocoa

1 tsp vanilla

2-3 tbsp hot water

But, we decided to go with Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Frosting.

It made it so rich and chocolate that I couldn’t eat a whole piece!

(Which, being lactose intolerant, I shouldn’t have been eating it anyway!)

My friend frosted it, and I decorated it.

So fun and yummy!

Also, Will and I started a hard 600 piece Global Puzzle Monday.

Well, we finished it today, and I’m so happy!

It took a lot of work, but it was fun.

Well, I gotta go take supper out of the oven.

Please pray for my mom recovering from oral surgery today.
