Today

I am so glad to be the wife of a potential pastor. As much as I know that God called Mike to be a pastor He called me to be a pastor's wife. I know that I have a lot to learn and a lot of growing to do. Today sitting and listening to Mike's sermon, I was astounded by the wisdom that the Lord has bestowed upon him. Every time he gets in the pulpit, I am anxious to hear what the Lord has revealed to him in the past week. On a different note, I am looking forward to the next week of homeschooling. I am making a couple of changes and I am hoping that they go smoothly.

Thursday Ailments

I hope Thursday is not turning into the day I take one of the kids to the doctor! Last Thursday I had to take Abby for strep throat and today I had to take Trevor for poison ivy. He got it working in the yard cutting up a huge limb that fell during a storm. He wasn't able to go to work because he is so miserable. My sister and I are official mall walkers. This morning we wanted to go walk but it was raining. We decided to hit the mall and it was perfect! You don't have to worry about bad weather and the temperature is always pleasant. Thank you, Lord for doctors to take our precious ones to when they feel icky and the ability to exercise: ~)

Those Little Whispers

I am so smitten with my 4 yr. olds little whisper. When she comes up to me and leans real close to my ear and says "Mommy, can you get __________down for me?" I just can't stand it! I love her little face and that she has a tiny bit of a lisp. She could be asking me to get down the Crisco to smear all over the bathroom mirror and I would have to think about it real hard before doing it. I love it! Well, because I love her! Today was a good day of school, I just went to peek in on Trevor and he is feverishly working on his Geography work. Done my mama heart good, I tell ya! Thank you, Lord for school at home and little whispers!

Beautiful Day

It has been a beautiful day here in Middle Tennessee. We have enjoyed being outside and playing. We did school this morning and this afternoon has been so pleasant. I was able to do all my laundry and hang it on the line. I did my dishes in front of the open window watching the girls play. I have been listening to a cd by our college choir and I never get tired of it. It lifts me up when I am tired and it helps me praise the Lord. All the songs are so good and I love it when I can play a cd and love each song on it! Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful day!!!

Going to the Dr.

I took Abby to the Dr today. She was talking to me this morning and I got a glimpse at the back of her throat~~and OH MY GOODNESS her tonsils were swelled real BIG! Well, let's start from the beginning~last night she fell asleep and she was snoring really loud. I mean so loud I had to roll her over on her side to stop her. I started thinking maybe she has strep throat. My sister use to get strep alot growinrg up and since I am eleven years older than her I remember it vividly. When she would get it she would snore and her voice would change a little like there was something wrong. I asked Abby if her throat hurt and she said no but I suspected something anyway. I called the doctor's office and they fit her in this morning. When the dr came in the room she had a kind of "why are you here attitude" She asked Abby if her throat hurt and again Abby said no. She asked me if Abby had been running a fever~no she hadn't. She seemed a little annoyed until she looked on the computer screen and the strep test was positive. BOO~YAH!!!! One for Mom here!!!!! The Dr. said I was very perceptive for catching it that quick! That's right, that's right!! I patted myself on the back quite a few times. Well~this is one time I can give myself the GOOD MOMMY award :~)

Our Friday

We went to the State Fair on Friday and we were quite disappointed! We planned to stay the whole day but left around 2pm because we had already done everything we could!!! We don?t ride the rides or do those ridiculous games. We go for the exhibition hall and the other things. There was hardly anyone there and I guess a lot of people had already left. We did decide to enter in some of the contests next year. We talked to a lady that had won lots of blue ribbons for cooking and she was very encouraging. We did get to see the livestock and go to the shark show. Friday night Mike and I went to The Cheesecake Factory for supper. A dear friend of ours gave us a gift card for our anniversary and we were finally able to use it. It was so great! We went early enough to beat the crowds. We only had to wait about 20 minutes. Mike got the Honey Maple Pork Tenderloin with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and carrots. I got the Chicken Madeira with mushrooms, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. Both of our entrees were wonderful! To top it off, we got a piece of Oreo Mudslide Cheesecake and shared it! The portions are so big we ate the rest of our meal last night for supper. Mike was shocked at how much food you get for the price. Homeschooling went good last week and I hope this week will go even better.

Seminar Notes

The first seminar last Thursday night was on emotional needs of pastor's wives. (and wives of men on the ministry) Coping Strategies 1) Lower Expectations There are seasons in life and we just can not do it all!! Simplify! Be focused and single-minded. Find out what God wants you to do and do it, not what others expect you to do. Lower your family's activity level. 2) Lower your Standards Everything doesn't have to be perfect and you are not a bad mother or wife if it's not. 3) Have an Anchor Every day spend time alone with God. In the moments God speaks to you write it down. Obey what the Bible says. 4) Praise God every day Be thankful! You must think before you thank. Praise doesn't change circumstances but it helps you put things into perspective. 5) Take time for yourself regularly! 6) Build relationships We must choose to do things that are important. Build a good relationship with your husband. Make time for each other. 7) Stay physically fit 8) Laugh!!! Don't take yourself so seriously. 9) Plan- But be flexible! Write lists and do a schedule. If your plan fails---let it go!! 10) Keep this life in perspective. We are only here for a short time. 4 things we can learn about ourselves by taking care of houseplants. 1) You must know what conditions are best. What suits you best? God knows our personalities so ask Him what you are to do. We should not compare ourselves to others! 2) Give plants water-occasionally. Only you know what energizes you! Hurting people hurt people-so don't try to help someone if you are in need yourself. Include time for you. 3) Repot-when necessary. Changes come-it is difficult but necessary. Look for the good in it! 4) You have to break the plant open sometimes. When we are broken we are able to help others. Do not resist discomfort. Scripture references Hebrews 13, Isaiah 61:3, II Cor. 1:4, Hebrews 12:1-2

The Seminars start tonight!!!

The college that my husband attends is starting a 10 week seminar for Pastor's wives. I have been looking forward to it all summer long and for the past week I have been kinda nervous. You know how it is~~ it's something new, you don't know how things will go, you only know one person that will be attending, where is child care located??, and I could go on. I have chosen not to let the devil scare me! I am praying that God will reveal lots of things I will need to know as a soon to be pastor's wife. As most people know, God doesn't just call the husband to the ministry He calls the wife too!! My husband is getting plenty of training to be a pastor in his classes~~I, on the other hand, feel kind of clueless about my role sometimes. I am excited about meeting new people and learning new things! I am willing to do my part in this ministry God has called our family into and I am looking forward to seeing what His plan is for us. I will be posting what we talk about every Thursday night for 8 weeks so that I can look back and see what I have learned. Who knows, maybe the information will help another pastor's or soon to be pastor's wife.

The Crocodile Hunter

Okay, okay I know that there has been alot of talk about Steve Irwin's death and it is kind of a sick obsession in our society. BUT, I am upset about it! My kids loved the Wiggles and they have a video with him and they feel in love with The Crocodile Hunter. My oldest daughter had a Crocodile Hunter birthday party when she turned 3 because~~~~he was so cool! I wanted to do a princess party but NOOO it had to be the crocodile hunter! We looked high and low for decorations and finally ended up making our own to make the party a success. We still have the cake topper of him wrestling a crocodile that amazingly we found somewhere! When you push the button on the back it says "Crikey". That was a great party!!! My mom helped me on that search for all things Croc and when she heard the news on Monday she called to tell us. She knew it would be a shock and I am glad she called to tell us before we saw it on TV or the internet. Anyway, those are some of our memories of the Crocodile Hunter.

Our First Week of School

This week was our first official week of homeschool. We got pretty much into our routine. After our company left last Monday and Mike registering for classes we got everything together to start school this past Monday. We are using Math U See for the first time this year and they are liking it alot!! I hope they continue to be excited about doing it. Trevor's schedule at work has been cut back for the school year and things are moving right along. Mike has classes at the college on Mon., Wed., and Fri. the only day he has to be there till 3:30 is Wed. I think this schedule will suit us more for this semester. I am excited because he will be home till 12 and will be available to help with the kids some mornings. He has already helped this week with some of Trevor and Shelby's school work. Mary has been helping with Abby but that will change on Tuesday because she starts her new job. We are not planning much for the weekend, maybe a cookout or something. I hope that everybody has a great holiday weekend!!!
