<title>Strength from the LORD</title>

he has become my salvation.
He is my God, and I will praise him,
my father's God, and I will exalt him.

Deuteronomy 6:5
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
&amp;nbsp;
2 Samuel 22:33

1 Chronicles 16:11
Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.

1 Chronicles 16:27-28
Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place. Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

<title>Romans 5:1-11</title>
<description>Peace and Joy
&amp;nbsp;Therefore, since we have been justified through faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, t
hrough whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.
And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that
suffering produces perseverance;
perseverance, character;
and character, hope.
And hope does not disappoint us,
because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man,
though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Since we have now been justified by his blood,
how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!
For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son,
how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
&amp;nbsp;Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom we have now received reconciliation.</description>

<title>Language Arts Games</title>
<description>For attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young - let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance - for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Proverbs 1:2-7

<title>Science Games</title>
<description>In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Genesis 1:1&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;
We are using &quot;Science of the Physical Creation in Christian Perspective&quot; by Abeka for 9th grade science this year.&amp;nbsp; Since my 9th grader's favorite subject is NOTscience, I've been looking for ways to make it a little easier and fun to study. Yesterday we discovered a really fun, easy to use website to create flash games. Teachers are able to enter the questions and answers to personalize the game, or may choose from an enormous list of games other teachers have made.
Not only did my daughter think it was awesome, but the boys heard us having a good time and wanted to make games out of their lessons, too!
My daughter helped me create the games ~ we picked vocabulary term and concepts out of the &quot;Science Manual with Lab Demonstration Exercises&quot; that coordinates with the Abeka curriculum. I had her recite to me the answer and question that I typed in. (She was learning and reviewing just by creating the game - shhh - don't tell her!) Then, of course, we had fun playing the games to reinforce the concepts.
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; In fact, she played them several times with a smile - now you know if I ask her to keep studying the terms with just the textbook, she wouldn't be smiling!&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;
Games we made to go with Chapter 2: The Atmosphere:
Chapter 2-1 Terms: Speed Match Game
Chapter 2-2 Terms: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
Science 2 Matching: Jeopardy Review Game
&amp;nbsp;
I hope these may be helpful to other who may be using this curriculum, also. We will add new games as we&amp;nbsp;make them. Have fun!
&amp;nbsp;
There are also a Speed Match Game, an Online Board Game, and some other interesting flash tools.

<title>Patriotic Music - Star Spangled Banner</title>
<description>Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;
Psalm 33:10-12
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;
Patriotic Music
As we've been studying our nation's beginnings and it's important documents, we thought it important to also learn about music that tells of our country's honor ~ Patriotic Music!!
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;
Star Spangled Banner - Francis Scott Key
&amp;nbsp;
Originally entitled &quot;Defense of Fort McHenry&quot;, this stirring poem was written by Georgetown lawyer Francis Scott Key after observing the Battle of Baltimore between the British and American forces during the War of 1812 in Baltimore, Maryland on September 13 - 14, 1814.
&amp;nbsp;
Mr. Key had been sent aboard one of the British battleships to help free a civilian prisoner. He was successful, but was not to be released until after the battle because the British knew he could ruin their surprise attack plans. Therefore&amp;nbsp;he observed&amp;nbsp;the long battle from the British side. After seeing the &quot;rockets red glare&quot; and hearing &quot;the bomb's bursting in air&quot;&amp;nbsp; &quot;through the night&quot; he was not aware of the condition of&amp;nbsp; &quot;what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming&quot; (flag) through the smoke and confusion. He knew if the Americans were defeated, the flag would be down, but if it were still&amp;nbsp;&quot;streaming gallantly&quot;, the Americans had survived the hard battle.&amp;nbsp;Imagine his excitement when he saw &quot;by the dawn's early light&quot;, the &quot;broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight&quot; and it &quot;gave proof through the night, that our flag was still there&quot;! The battle was won and &quot;that Star Spangled Banner yet&quot; waved, &quot;o're the land of the free, and the home of the brave&quot;!
&amp;nbsp;
English composer John Stafford Smith titled the tune we use for the SSB, &amp;nbsp;&amp;ldquo;Anacreontic&amp;rdquo;. Composed while Smith was in his teens in the 1760&amp;rsquo;s, its original lyrics and meaning are completely different than how we refer to the music today. The tune&amp;rsquo;s lyrics had been changed several times over the years, and the tune was a popular one at the time in America. It was Mr. Key&amp;rsquo;s brother-in-law, Judge Nicholson, who put the tune and the lyrics together the first time.
&amp;nbsp;
The original garrison flag sewed by Mary Pickersgill and her team of seamstresses was to be displayed 90 feet&amp;nbsp;in the air&amp;nbsp;and seen at very far distances. The dimensions of this humungous flag were 30 feet by 42 feet with each star being 2 feet in diameter and each strip 2 feet long! The fifteen stars and stripes were to represent the original 13 colonies plus Vermont and Kentucky. The flag that we now know as the &quot;Star Spangled Banner&quot; was delivered to Fort McHenry in August of 1813. That&amp;nbsp;original flag from the battle is displayed at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, USA for all to see.
