School's Out

Finally, school is out, well almost. We have a couple of tests to do and then we're off for the summer. I really need a break. I have so much to do this summer. Before I know it, the new school year will be upon us and I'll have a 10th grader and a 6th grader. There is a strong possibility that my nephew will be staying with us indefinitely and I have volunteered to homeschool him too. He is 7 and will be in 2nd grade.
Life seems to have gotten so hectic in the last few months. I find myself on my knees very often praying for God's guidance.
I'm putting both my children in summer camp next week so that I can have some free time to work around the house undisturbed and work out at the Y. I've added a few unwanted pounds and am determined to lose them.
Well, got to go for now. My husband and I are attending a dinner lecture tonight and I have to get ready. Maybe I'll add a comment about the lecture tomorrow.

Ernesto - a little wind

Well, Ernesto, came and went and brought some very badly needed rain to Florida. I am so very thankful that the storm was not as bad as it could have been. The one thing I absolutely hate about Florida is hurricane season. The rest of the year is great! I hope we can get through September without another hurricane.

Our children are looking forward to Labor Day. We have a friend from church who has planned a Labor Day party. She is such a wonderful entertainer and we always have a splendid time. There is little to equal the fellowship of friends in the church. There is a safety that is felt unlike other friendships.

I am now in the process of working a home-based business. I am a distributor for Juice Plus. When I got sick several years ago, I started learning about nutrition and now I have learned more by becoming a Juice Plus distributor. Juice Plus is whole food nutrition, which is bio-available for the body to use instead of trying to use isolated vitamins and minerals. I encourage the readers of this blog to go to my website: www.familytalents.net and learn more about Juice Plus and its wonderful benefits. I can send you any information that you need to answer your questions. Also to you moms out there, Juice Plus is FREE to children 6-15 years old, when sponsored by an adult who is also taking Juice Plus.

Working this home-based business is not easy, but for me I am now having to learn to be more organized with our homeschooling, home management, and home-based business. And I thank God for the good health I now have.

Blessings to you all.

Another Hurricane Season

Today is June 13. Thirteen days into the 2006 Hurricane Season. We've had our first brush of the season from Tropical Storm Alberto. I am so not-ready for this hurricane season. After going through 3 major hurricanes in 2004, I do not relish facing another season of high winds, fierce rain, and little or no electricity! But for better or for worse, we live in Florida and hurricanes now seem to be a part of our lives. They bring an uneasiness and added stress to our lives.

But with all that said, I realize that hurricanes just as tornadoes, earthquakes, drought, blizzards and every other kind of weather event is in God's hands. I am so small and insignificant compared to the power of the storms and their destructive nature. But even in my smallness, God can and does wrap his hands around me and protect me in the midst of the storm. Just as Jesus told the wind and the waves to be still, I know that God has the power to do the same.

I don't know what this hurricane season holds for us, but I will trust in God to deliver us through another season.

New Adventures

Now that I have my book in hand, each day is exciting when I receive an order or have someone tell me how much they enjoyed reading it. I even had one visitor to my front door who was so thankful that she had read the book and received encouragement from it. That had been one of the goals I had when I wrote How I Survived My Doctors' Care. God is so wonderful. I feel blessed to be able to offer encouragement and help to others.

This week I took part in a natural health Bible study and the leader of the group asked me to present my book and make a presentation about something from the book. Being my first experience speaking in front of a group, I was glad there were only a handful of people there. They were receptive to my message and even bought some of my books. I am praying that God will keep me humble. It is only because of Him that I am alive today to tell my story.

I hope that sales will continue so that I can pay off the tremendous medical debt we owe; but even more so, I hope and pray that God will bless each and every person that reads my book.

My book is available at my website: www.familytalents.com. If you read the book, please let me hear from you.

My book is done!

It has been 2 long years in coming but my book is finally done. PTL The title is How I Survived My Doctors' Care and What I Learned Along the Way. After what we had been through with my illness, I wanted to encourage others, share knowledge, and of course, praise God. When my husband suggested that I write a book, I never knew how long of a process it would be; but as I look back, I'm glad I did it. However, had it not been for the grace of God, the book still wouldn't be done. So many times I sat down to write and had nothing. But as I prayed, the words would start to flow. God is truly amazing!

My husband has been tremendous. He was there for me while I was sick and he has helped me so much during the writing of the book, and during the self-publication. He did all of the print layout, cover design, and is now working on the website. Our website is www.familytalents.com. Because of time constraints, he has put my press release out as our home page so that a click anywhere on the page will allow the reader to send me an email for further info. Hopefully in the next few days, he will find the time to finish the website so that readers can click on Paypal to purchase the book and we can also have links for other products that we wish to offer for sale.

A different phase of the book starts now with promotion. I'm not quite ready to give the book over to a distributor who will want 55% of my book sales so I am having to be creative in ways to get my book "out there." Doors are beginning to open with chiropractors, health food stores, and Christian book stores. I am looking forward to having a book signing very soon at one of the largest Christian book stores in the Orlando area.

One day I overheard my husband telling someone he had just met that I am an author. It seems strange to think of myself as an author. I would have never believed that I would write a book. Life has turned out quite differently than I would have imagined when David and I married 24 years ago. David is the one who has always said he wants to leave his mark on society. I would have been happy to raise our children and then spoil our grandkids.

I can say this that whenever the Lord works things out, they are so much better than I could have done. I am excited to see what tomorrow will bring.

Just yesterday...

Just yesterday, Kasey was a tiny little thing that would run out of the room and then back again to grab my leg, hug me and then run off again. When she smiled her eyes looked like half-moons and her entire face lit up. Each stage of change in her size and personality has been amazing to me. How time flies! Now that she is a teenager, I pray everyday for the wisdom to know how to handle the changes taking place in her now as a teenager. I am determined to talk with her more than my mom talked with me. When I was 13, my mom didn't have to worry about me reading pornography or seeing it on the internet. Today it is different.

A couple of days ago, my daughter's best friend checked out a book from the library. By the title and cover, the contents were not clear. When I read some of it, I was surprised that the library would have such filth on its shelves. I thought one would have to go to a porn shop to check out such garbage, but there it was sitting in our local library! It contained things totally unfit for adult consumption, much less a 13-year-old girl. The mother of my daughter's friend, allowed her daughter to keep the book. I'm not thrilled with her decision. To be honest, I'm not sure she really knows what is in the book. What has this got to do with the first part of my story. Not a whole lot, except that, as my daughter grows up, I am trying to instill in her the need for purity in her mind and heart. I can't totally separate her from the world, but I can talk, talk, talk and continue to tell her how much her Dad and I love her and what God expects of her as one of his children. We are trying to help her be strong in the face of temptation.

Her friend may read the book. I have no control over what my neighbor allows in his/her home. I pray Kasey will be an example for her friend and that my comments might have some kind of an impact on her friend as well.
