Back again

Well we are all moved and so far it went well. The flight was great really. We are waiting on our stuff to get here and we are moving to a bigger place next month.
The girls are so happy to be with their dad, and we were here for the Holidays too, so that was great!
We are learning from the area, as most of the books are en-route still too. Living overseas gives you so much to learn with out books though. We have a program to help learn the language and the older girls are finally starting to want to learn it, which is so good, since we will be here for 3 years.

Moving again

Well once again we are moving. We spent the
last 2 days driving from PA to MN. Now we spend a week packing our
house and moving again. This time we move overseas. Some days I feel
like we do nothing as far as school work, but I then I notice how much
they are learning from life, and well military life adds some extra
lessons to that too. Some are harder then others, 9 months with out dad
around, some are good though, traveling around meeting new people,
seeing other countries.
The girls are excitted I am excitted and frazzled trying to make sure
everything is in order for the move.

More books

SOTW came in last week, it is really nice. The girls really like it. I think there might be something to the classical approach once they start reading on their own some more. We got 2 science books in too; they can't wait to do them. They are hands on type so they are looking forward to that, but then so am I too. Course I got Breanna a math book and she got 100% on the end of book review before we did the book, so she is waiting on her next level book to come in. I have learned my lesson, from now on get 2 math books at a time. Katelyn uses Miquon and Breanna uses Developmental math, course they have to use different courses too. Breanna just did not like the rods at all, so no point using a Rod based math for her.
Still waiting to move again, looks like another holiday away from my husband.

Back in PA

Well we have made it back to PA. It is nice to be home again too.
We have found a homeschool group and are planning a trip friday with them too. I can't wait. I am ordering the girls shirts this weekend too, then they can wear them on our homeschool outtings.
Now to change all the state requirments over and notify people here that we are here. We are hoping to move before Thanksgiving, but I am not getting my hopes up to much over that either.

I ordered more books again. I am trying a different math program with Breanna then with Katelyn. I finally got the Story of the World and the Active book and workbooks, Rod and Staff, for Danelle in Pre-school.

One more day

   Till
my mom gets here. The girls made signs to hold at the airport for her.
They are so excited to see Nanny. We have so much to do before we leave
Sat too though. The house is clean, the laundry is 90% finished. We
have to pack, and finish the last of the laundry. We mailed out a
box to Tim again today, and one to Alex, crafts for her and her sister
to do when she gets home for the hospital. The girls got cards for Alex
today too, they go out tomorrow. Alex is my best friend’s daughter that
has cystic fibrosis (http://www.cff.org for more info). She is a very
brave little girl, with strong, incredible parents. I finally
started sewing on Morgann's Halloween outfit today. It should be easy,
Danelle's is the same, but different fabric and Katelyn's is almost the
same too. Breanna's I know will be easy so I haven't started it. Oh and
I have no idea what to dress Terresa as at all.

Faith and life

I just bought the girls religion courses, 3 of
them, Katelyn and Breanna got their own, and I got one for Morgann
Danelle to share and I am in a religion crisis
myself. I am wavering between Roman Catholic, what I was raised and
keep going
back to, and Orthodox Catholic. There is so little difference on the
outside,
and I can't go to services till I go home next week, there is no
Orthodox close
to me right now. I am buying a book that is written for Roman Catholics
about
Orthodox too see what it has. I have learned so much of about the
religion
since teaching the girls, and while it has helped my relationship with
the
church and God, I still have this thing in my head about the Orthodox
Church.
The little thing in my head is what has always brought me back to the
church,
so it is hard to listen when it is a different church and it is very
hard not
to listen too it at the same time. Hubby is little help, he will look
into
either, he was raised Lutheran and has already started looking into
converting
and goes to Mass with me. He says he will learn about Orthodox catholic
if that
is what I want.

Dick and Jane books

Are great too. We have a set of 12 of
them, it is a box set hubby bought at Sams. Katelyn read 2 books
tonight, 3 or 4 stories per book. Short ones but still, she only had 2
words she had to get help with. Breanna is doing great with reading and
math. I am ordering more math books next week for them. I am thinking
of changing Breanna's math though. She is doing great with the
worksheets I print and our math, but the course I have for her, she is
not getting at all. I am also looking into getting or trying to
make pocket charts for them. Math, Reading, and Science, I have them
done in my head. I want a time line type one in my head for Religion
and History, which we tie together some, but still 2 lines. One AD one
BC. I can't wait to move to set it all up though.

Going home

The girls and I are going to my mom and dad's house for a
few weeks, next week. I can't wait. I miss my family so much right now. Plus it
will be the last time in a long time we see them, some it will be 2 years till
we see them again. We will be in Korea by Thanksgiving. It has been such
a long time since we started the process, that it hardly seems real to me, and
till I am holding plane tickets for me and the girls in my hands it might not
sink all the way in either. My mom is flying up next week, course the girls
think she is coming the day after she is coming so they will be SO surprised
when we get her a day early.

Writing the Road to Reading

I think this might be the best reading course there is. I
love it, my girls love it. They both (Katelyn and Breanna) work together at the
same time, on different levels and it totally WORKS! Unit studies did not work
last year, but if this is an indicator, we are going back to them.
Katelyn is much farther then Breanna, but we do a review for 5-10 mins which is Breanna's main
lesson, then we do 5-10 mins on the next lesson, Breanna either does her writing
then or pays some attention to Katelyn's lesson. Then Katelyn does her writing
and reading and when Breanna is done I read her an earlier reader. Katelyn is
reading some of them, but only to her sisters when she wants too. She is still
a shy reader and doesn't like reading as much as being read to. Think she can
get wrapped in to the book if someone is reading it instead of her reading it
still at this point.

Course math is going well, and Faith and Life is an incredible religion course
too. Science and History we are starting to add some. I like the classical
approach, but will probably stay with what I have.
Danelle is doing more and more with us, I think by Jan she will need her own books.

My Favorite Web Site

http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/index.htm From her site: The focus here is on low-cost, home-cooking from scratch.
The recipes are all tested in a real kitchen with hungry children,
stalking cats, begging puppies and a playful husband underfoot.
The ingredients are affordable and readily available in most areas. She has so many great tips, recipes and links too.
