http://thecastleberrys.net is the link to our main website for those who are interested. I'm only homeschooling one of my children at present but am hoping to return to my homeschooling roots very soon! What I'm currently reading with the children: Little Town on the Prairie & Book 1 of the Shagbark Hickory Series (Pathway Publishers). Also, "Foxe's Book of Martyrs" with Jacob.

Remember me?? Between chicken pox running through the three youngest children (the boys had already had it) and getting all of our ducks in a row to purchase a home (aaacckkkk!!!!) not to mention househunting via the internet night and day, we've been super busy and insane. You know, the usual. We searched and searched in Missouri which was our original choice of location and almost settled on a farm there but ended up finding one that met more of our criteria in Arkansas! Anyway, here's an arial view of the house/barn/land (15 acres). We're finishing up the paperwork with the VA and the loan officer this week and Lord-willing we'll be in Escrow (sp?) by the end of the week. Once it's a done deal I'll post more pics of the house. I just don't want to get ahead of myself just yet. Oh boy but we're praying!!!!!

Sorry to be away so long but things are crazy over here right now!!

God Bless! <><

It's been awhile.

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted an entry here. I just learned this morning of Missey's passing. How sudden and so very sad. My heart, thoughts and earnest prayers are with her husband Tom and her five precious children. I know I will have so many questions for God when I get to Heaven. I know He has His reasons for allowing things like this to happen, I just wish I could see the end result of this one. I know He will care for the family she left behind and heal the hearts of her loved ones, family and friends.

As for us, things are going along as usual. The move to Missouri is still on and we will be moving sometime in April, a few weeks later then planned. I can't wait.

I just bought a Little House on the Prairie trivia book and am looking forward to asking questions from it! I don't know how much of the information my boys retained but we'll see!

Have a blessed Lord's Day tomorrow!!

Owl Pellets??

For those of you who have never heard of these take heart, I hadn't either until last Friday! No, they aren't what they sound like either! LOL! CLOSE though! When an owl eats a small rodent (or whatever) it eats it whole. The owl's body can't process all of the bones, fur and whatnot so whatever the owl's body can't use, the owl regurgitates back up! Hence the owl pellet. Gross?? Yes. Fascinating?? Oh yes! Especially for two little boys!! So today, we're armed with magnifying glasses and tweezers to pull apart three of them! I'll take some pictures too so you can all see what it looks like. (If you dare!!! LOL!) The pellets actually come from a place online that sterilizes them before they ship them so there aren't any germs! Pretty neat!!

*Owl Pellet Link*

Our social studies theme for the past few weeks has been "Discovering Different Cultures." I'm able to check out educational materials from the county's educational department. Last week I checked out a video on families in Russia. It was fascinating!! We wrote down all of the similarities and differences between the children's lives there and here. This next week we're going go over families in Japan and Mexico. Should be interesting!

For Science, Jacob is studying volcanos and earthquakes...imagine that! ;) Jamie is studying the life cycle of a sunflower (this past week) and the "life" of a raindrop (next week). We make up special projects for each subject.

Hannah is still learning by leaps and bounds. She can now read a few more words than Jamie! I'm amazed at her learning abilities at such a young age.

Today Jamie is watching another *gasp* educational video about...you guessed it...TRAINS!!! What a suprise! For social studies we've been continuing (albeit VERY slowly) reading through the Little House on the Prairie series and discussing what life was like back then. The boys are very excited to know that we're going to be moving near where some of that took place! I'm excited too! I can't wait to go to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum!! Talk about a field trip!! :)

I have a meeting at the homeroom today to pick up some teaching supplies I ordered about a week ago from the county. Here's a list of what I ordered: (they're all in VHS format)

812313, VH Are You My Mother?/ Go, Dog, Go!/ The Best Nest

812293, VH Discover Magazine: Genetics

812311, VH Genes, Genetics and DNA

811475, VH Bill Nye the Science Guy: Farming

812066, VH California's Gold: Trains

184624, VH Goofy's Field Trips: Trains

811192, VH Physical Science for Children: All About Magnets

811116, VH Thomas and His Friends Get Along

811197, VH The Eddie Files: Episode 201: Hot Dog Heaven

They're all on loan to me for a week unless I need to renew them, which I doubt. As you can see, some of the items are much more geared towards Jamie and others are geared towards Jacob. In October I'll be receiving on loan a life-sized skeleton made of fiberglass! I'll have him here for 2 weeks! I had to pre-order him!! I can't wait! Jacob is just going to flip!!! There's also a rubber (sounds really gross...) torso that you can pull all of the various, internal organs out of. Jacob is really interested in anything medical or bodiliy-related so I thought I'd take that interest and run with it!
