We have done our vocabulary words for the day, math, bible, etc..

Next week we are going to add some Thanksgiving lessons to our school plans. And of course some decorating.. :)

Responsibility..our focus for the week...

We finished our 10 day Astronomy Unit Friday and this week is our off week. (We school 3 weeks on 1 week off)
But instead of having nothing but wasted time on our hands I decided to spend this next week doing a character study. A friend of mine is using the Book of Virtues by William Bennett and so I looked online and found a free complete lesson plan with worksheets, vocab, etc..
I chose responsibility as our character trait to focus on this week. This is always something that the children can work on.
I am looking forward to the exciting changes this small study will bring!

It's a challenge..

Yes it's a challenge for me. Learning to teach my dd who has some special needs. Learning the best way to help her learn the best way she can!
We follow a unit study method of learning and while my other children do well with it Gabriellia does not. So yesterday I pulled her out of the unit study and begin to use textbooks. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well she did! She read and answered the questions getting them all right. I think she just needs something more concrete in front of her. I am excited to see her blossom! :)

Our astronomy unit is going well. The children are learning alot. We're on day 4 and we have gleaned much information already,

We have learned about the moon and did some moon mapping. The sun was next. We drew the stages of a solar eclipse. Yesterday my children did solar system worksheets on each planet filling in each planets information. Things like color and appearance, distance from the earth, composition, etc.. We will be doing some neat experiments with this unit and learning many new things we didn't know before!

Well, it's time for learning! :):)

Update & Middle Eastern Meal

Mama is pregnant and so she has been letting this blog go for a bit now. But she is feeling better and heading into her 2nd trimester so this blog should now be kept up to date!

We just finished our Temple to Tabernacle Unit. I believe the children enjoyed it. As a close to the unit the children have planned and will be making a middle eastern meal. This will happen tomorrow evening.

Tomorrow we are also starting a new unit: The Heavens Declare His Glory, which is a unit on Astronomy. I am looking forward to it!
Mama made it to the library this afternoon to get some good books and biographies on astronomers and astronomy.

The children's menu for their middle eastern meal is as follows:

Appetizers..
pita bread with hummus
chickpea and olive

for the first entree'
cucumber soup
tabboule'

the 2nd entree'
spincah salad yogurt

the main dish
stuffed pastry squares

and for dessert
halva

It sure sounds good to me! I am looking ahead to tomorrow's supper with much anticipation!!

Blessings!! :)
Finished the unit and on to the next one!

The last thing we did in our Roots and Relations Unit was a Family Crest. All the children worked on it together.

I think it turned out well!

Monday we started a new unit. Oceanography. We're already learning alot together!! The munchkins have done a few days of labeling a map with geography terms like canals, isthmus, ocean currents, etc..

Yesterday my devotion was talking about not comparing ourselves to other families and how they homeschool. We need to do what's right for our family. This was so timely for me as I sometimes find it too easy to compare our way of homeschooling to what other's do. Some want their children to attend college, others plan for their children to attend a trade school and some don't plan at all. Some use unit studies, some textbooks, some follow the trivium or classical method and other unschool. We are all so varied and it's in this diversity that we are strong!!

Today the children are working on making a family crest along with math, bible and our daily subjects...

I can't wait to see the finished project!

We got started late today as we headed to the library this morning. The children did well and I was pleased.
