1. Why did you start a blog?
I love blogging, and have always had one on another site. I wanted to start one here, because I wanted to find other home school families that may have an interest in animals or animal rescue.

2. What did/do you hope to accomplish with your blogging?
I have not really had time to accomplish that goal yet.

3. Have you found that you don't post as much as you did when you started?
Oh yes, the more involved our family has gotten with animal rescue, the less time I seem to have for posting anything on any of my blogs. I am able to keep up with our photo blog much easier. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mycatranch/

4. If yes, why not?
Too involved in our animal rescue volunteer work to find the time to blog much anymore. A quick photo post to Flickr seems to be much easier lately.

5. How important are comments to you?
Comments are very important to me. It tells me that someone is actually reading my posts.

6. Do you ever find yourself wishing people would not always leave comments that agree with you?
Not really. While I really enjoy comments that agree with my post. I am open to any and all comments, as long as they are polite. Constructive criticism can also be good.

7. Do you comment on other people's blogs a lot, sometimes, or very little?
Not very much. I normally only post on someone else's blog if they have commented on mine, and if I also saw something I felt compelled to comment on.

8. What determines why you don't post a comment on someone else's blog?
If I don't feel I have anything to add to their post, I don't think to comment.

9. What determines why you do post a comment on someone else's blog?
When I like a post and want to encourage them. Or, if they are asking for advice and I feel I have something of value to contribute to the conversations.

10. Do you have more than one blog?
Yes, I do.
http://rambeaux.livejournal.com was my very first blog. I normally only have time to use the Flickr feature "post photo to LJ blog," rather then posting something original.
http://www.acadianahumane.org/catblogger/ is our official animal rescue blog. This one is run by our volunteer webmaster, and she does most of the blogging. I sometimes add an entry when I have time and something to share related to our rescue.
I also have blogs on MySpace, Blogger, and a few other places. But, I post at those even less then I do here.

11. Do you read random blogs either off of random blogger or friends lists?
When I have time I do. But, that is rare.

Cat Shelter Foundation Poured Today!

Our prayers are being answered, and our dreams are becoming a reality. Today, Monday, November 5, 2007 thanks to a generous supporter, we were able to pour the concrete for the foundation for our Hurricane Proof Cat Shelter! Pet Overpopulation and Rescue Plea

Animal Overpopulation Crisis in Lafayette

The animal overpopulation crisis is exploding in Lafayette.
It may seem hard to believe, but last month, more than 1000 animals were processed into the Roicy Duhon Animal Control Center in Lafayette.
Of those, over 750 were euthanized, simply because so many hundreds of pet owners refuse to spay or neuter their animals, and there just aren't enough homes to go around.

Lafayette Animal Control kennels are overflowing with dogs and cats, kittens and puppies, desperately in need of a loving home.
That's why we're urging you to look closely at the little faces we're about to show you, in the hope there's room in your home, and your heart, for one of them.

If you're a cat person, you're in luck. There are also some beautiful cats and kittens at the shelter in need of a home.

Please adopt an animal, and save a life.

Cat Transport from Lafayette to Dallas

On May 20, 2007 eighteen rescue cats were transported from Lafayette, LA to Dallas, TX. Acadiana Humane Society sent eight cats from my Cat Ranch. Kristy's Critter Kingdom sent ten of their Roicy rescue cats. All 18 cats were fully vetted and ready for adoption. The receiving rescue was the SPCA of Texas. Many of these rescue kitties were quickly adopted within a week of arrival in Texas. This video documents their journey from Lafayette, Louisiana to Texas. New Puppies at my Cat Ranch

We took in some new puppies recently. We are in the process of getting them vetted and ready for adoption.

My Cat Ranch Update

We've been very busy over the past couple of months. I never seem to have time to update my Blog anymore. In case you are wondering, here is the Reader's Digest version of what's been going on.

On November 24th, our three daughter's each entered cats, kittens, and rabbits in the 4-H Fall Fest Cat Shows and Rabbit Show. Every animal they entered came home with a ribbon. To see pictures and find out more, check out my Cat Ranch moblog: http://mycatranch.textamerica.com/?term=4h&tag=Y

In November and December, we borrowed several safe traps, and made a concentrated effort to TNR (Trap Neuter Release) as many of our feral and free roaming cats as possible. During this TNR blitz we spayed/neutered 17 cats and kittens! We also relocated 8 oppossums to their new country home. In November, thanks to April's help, we placed two dogs in new homes up North through Labs4Rescue. A Siberan Husky named Diamond and a Golden Retriever named Ace. We had two cat adoptions in November: Jessie a Blue Tabby, and Angelina a Torbie kitten. In December we found adoptive homes for Chewie a Lilac Point Ragdoll kitten, David a Blue DLH kitten, and George an Orange Tabby kitten.

My Cat Ranch has been working together with Acadiana Humane Society. Almost every Saturday, between 11AM and 3PM you can find us and some of our adoptable animals at the Petsmart in Lafayette, LA for Adoption Days. In December, My Cat Ranch, working together with Acadiana Humane Society and ARNO (Animal Rescue New Orleans) we saved three cats from death row at the local Animal Control facilty. First was Jenny, a beautiful long haired Tortoiseshell. We had her spayed and fully vetted. Second was Binx, an owner surrendered neutered and declawed Buff Tabby. We took Binx to the vet and got him up to date on his shots and tested. The most recent cat saved from Roicy was a beautiful Tabby they called Soft Meow. We named her Brianna. Brianna was a temporary Cat Ranch resident. We took care of her while she was sick, and got her vetted and almost ready for adoption. She left today to go to the ARNO shelter in New Orleans, where they will get her spayed and find her a furr-ever home. Jenny and Binx are still at My Cat Ranch and are currently available for adoption.

Christmas was quiet on My Cat Ranch. The kittens had as much fun as the girls did. The kittens opened the first present of kitty toys. The weekend of December 30th, Louisiana experienced a lot of rain. We weren't able to attend Adoption Day at Petsmart because we were flooded in. Click here to see the flooded road near our Cat Ranch.

On Monday, we pulled a 3 year old owner surrendered neutered Siberan Husky named Zeus from death row at the pound for Alaskan Malamute Rescue in Louisiana. Zeus is staying on at My Cat Ranch through his quarantine time of ten to fourteen days. We took him to the vet and had him heartworm tested and got his rabies vacination. Zeus is HW-! Yeah! Zeus is a real sweetheart and a wonderful house dog. He is a real people dog and cries when he can hear us but not see us.

Thanks to April of Labs4Rescue, our beloved Beethoven was adopted this week up North. Beethoven celebrated his adoption at the doggie park with a doggie cake from the doggie bakery, and his new doggie friends. The biggest announcement of all, is the merger of My Cat Ranch and Acadiana Humane Society on January 1, 2007. On the first of the month, I became the new President of Acadiana Humane Society. I am now operating both animal rescues as one under AHS. This means we are now non-profit. We can be a part of saving more lives, and helping to place more animals in loving furr-ever homes. One of our first goals is to obtain a physical shelter to house some of our rescued cats.

We are also very active in helping to plan the arrival of the Big Fix Rig in Lafayette, Louisiana. We are currently making plans, and trying to raise the $300.00 a day funding to keep the spay/neuter clinic open for four weeks in March. This will provide low cost spaying and neutering of cats for low income families and rescues. There will also be dog spay/neuter vouchers made available during this time for qualifying persons/families. Two of my friends from AHS and I already volunteered once when the Big Fix Rig was in St. Bernard Parish back in July. Urgent Prayer Requests!

I would ask that those of you who read this, please add my husband's sister, Evelyn to your prayer list. Evelyn has cancer and is going downhill fast. The Hospice nurse has said she has 3 days tops, as all her organs are starting to shut down. The family is coming in from all over to see her once more. This is a difficult time for everyone. We would appreciate your prayers and thoughts.

Also, I had a phone call yesterday afternoon from my friend and My Cat Ranch volunteer, Allyson. She was admited into the hospital straight from seeing her doctor. Her MRI showed 50% bone compression in the spine of her neck. It looks like she will be undergoing surgery today. Please pray for the doctors hands for steadiness and skill. Please pray for Allyson and her husband for peace, comfort, and no fear. Also, please pray for no complications and a quick recovery.

Quick Cat Ranch Update

We've had a couple of cat adoptions recently. Jessie, a Blue & White Tabby adult, and Angelina, a six month old Torbie kitten were both placed into wonderful new furr-ever homes.

We have also been involved in a TNR program for the past couple of weeks. As of today, we have spayed/neutered six cats and six kittens. This morning the last of the female ferals that we feeding are now spayed. We just have five more feral males, that we know of, that still need to be neutered. Many thanks to Kristy, Paula, and Wendy who have loaned us TNR traps!
