Lift Off!

We began homeschooling today, and so far it has gone well. Ben has been very keen to learn, although he has had his own agenda too! Today we studied English, Math, Science, we did some PE on the trampoline in the garden, and we have begun a unit study on dinosaurs. Just from doing a little today with English and Math I can see that Ben is behind, and he needs to work on things. He is very keen though - I know it won't continue, he already said we should have next week off. He should be so lucky!

I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow.

We finished!

Ben finished school on Friday, which he is pleased about. I anticipate within a few weeks of Ben being home that Grace will change her mind, and want to join us earlier than the fall, I might be wrong though! We are on a mid smester break here, so we'll be starting to homeschool as of June 4. We've signed up to the Homeschooling Network for six months, and will see if they suit our needs. I've also got lots of good stuff off the Homeschool Estore (which I love!).

Informed school!

We informed the school that we were removing Ben which they didn't take too well! They felt that it would not be in Ben's best interests etc. Ben, who has special needs, really struggles with school. We've given it a good go (almost 4 years now), but it just doesn't work for him. He is really looking forward to homeschool! Grace will remain in school until the end of the school year. Then from September we'll have them both at home. We have decided to go the eclectic route, although for the remainder of the school year we will let Ben go through a period of deschooling. Homeschool is something which we've been seriously looking at on and off for two years now. It's exciting that we are going to be finally doing it!
