Peter & The Wolf
November 1 - Main Stage
11:00 a.m.
$6.00 per ticket

This classic story of Peter and the Wolf begins with a twist involving the Russian writer himself. In this new for BCT adaptation, we meet Sergei Prokofiev and Natalya Satz as they are in the middle of creating a “symphonic fairy tale for children”. We watch and listen as they begin to match instruments in the orchestra with possible characters for a story. The flute sounds like a bird; the oboe like a duck quacking. The clarinet is smooth and aloof like a cat. The instruments define the characters and from those characters a story is discovered...

From Prokofiev's creative mind and his childhood memories of the Ukraine, we see Peter, his grandfather, and his friends: the bird, the duck, and the cat all coming to life on stage. When a menacing wolf traps Peter and his animal friends, he tests his courage and cleverness to outsmart the beast. All ends well in this magical production that combines the Orchestra, Russian history, dance and theatre to capture the essence of Prokofiev's classic; the triumph of taking risks and trusting the limitless potential of the imagination.

Unbeknownst to Juliet her father prepares to marry her to to Count Paris in three days. Friar Laurence comes up with a plan to render her unconscious for 42 hours in which her family would think her dead and put her in the family tomb. He sends a message to Romeo of the plan. However the message never arrives and Romeo shows up in the tomb just moments before Juliet is to awaken, but in his sorrow, he kills himself with poison. Juliet awakens to find Romeo dead and uses Romeo's dagger to kill herself.

The Prince, the Capulets and the Montagues enter the tomb. What they see is enough to make them proclaim peace to one another for all time.
