Enduring

Is there anyone that doesn't feel overwhelmed by the work they have facing them? I saw a sermon by Joni Erikson Tada and she said just putting on a smile every morning for the woman that came to get her out of bed took prayer. Imagine not being able to even wipe your own nose, do your own teeth, bathe. And her prayer was to smile through it. Surely we can smile through what we face.

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you" (John 14:26). COMFORTER!

Choices we choose

I have had this on my mind for a long time. It is our choices that make a difference in this life. We can choose to work or stay home. We can choose to be honest or dishonest. We can choose to give God all of us or we can hold on to what we call self-sufficiency. For us, we choose for me to stay home with the children. I am very satisfied with that choice. I could work. I have the ability and knowledge needed to get a job. But, since I have made that choice, I don't feel it's right to ask the government for help with food or housing. I am very frugal and can make do. I can grow my own garden, cook from scratch, hang out the laundry. I have found that paper towels are a luxury. I can make my own rags and use them just as I would a paper towel, then throw them in the laundry and use them again. Rags also make great wash clothes. Some are better than others. People are usually willing to give you their rags. Many people wouldn't think of making old sheets into wash clothes. Old pickle jars make great drinking glasses. Keep the lids and the kids always have a place to keep the bugs they catch. Of course, you don't have to keep them after the bugs have been in them, just buy another jar of pickles. Also, our garbage never goes to waste. There is always an animal that will it what you are throwing out.

We also have a choice in how we react to people. We can only control ourselves, not others. Can we make other people work, be honest, be respectful? All we can do is set an example before others and hope they will choose to work hard, tell the truth, treat others with respect. I do find smoking cigarettes is an excuse to get out of work. For some reason, working hard and smoking cannot be done at the same time. But, can you stop someone from smoking? You can legislate all you want, but it will not change them. They have to change themselves. They have to make the choice to change.

God gave us free choice. That is how He wanted us. We have to make the choice to follow him or not. No one can make it for us. We can't even make the choice for our children. Just as God lets His children make their own choice, we must let our children make their own choice. They cannot ride our coattails into Heaven.

Levi means blessed union

Several days ago, DH and I were talking to Levi, telling him his name meant blessed union. We told it was true that he had blessed our marriage. Yesterday, out of the blue, Levi said, " I'm blessing yours union everyday." I promptly agreed and called DH to tell him. Then yesterday, Levi was watching Little House on the Prairie. Laura said history was studying dead people. Levi asked me if he could study history nexted week. He wanted to know where Abraham Lincoln was buried. He was planning on digging him up and studying him.

Brokeness

I have come to a point in my life when I understand that I know nothing. I have lived half my life and have a total lack of knowledge. I know less, understand less than I ever did before. Oh, to have youth back when I thought I knew so much. Everything was so black and white, then life showed up with shades of gray.

Laughing in their sleep

I love hearing the kids laugh in their sleep. It let's me know they are truly at peace in our home and happy. My kids have had a very happy weekend. My oldest dd just had a dream come true. She got a horse. The people we take lessons from made a deal with her so she can buy it. In a time when there was no way for us to buy her a horse, God made a way. He never fails to amaze me with his gifts to us. I remember the verse about how His gifts to His children will be better than what we can give them.

Deceived

“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ” (Colossians 2:8).
To some men, lying becomes a habit. It's hard when you find out you've been deceived once again.

I have been blessed

I am feeling so blessed this morning. My children are all around me. I have a husband that loves me. Most of the food on the table is what we have grown. Ds3 started riding a 2-wheel bike last week. His training wheels had broken off when ha threw it out of the bed of the truck a couple of months ago. He worked at riding it, scooting along with his feet on the ground, occasionally trying to pedal. Then, last week, he did it. He pedalled and didn't fall for a good 10 feet. Now he's going much farther without falling.
Dd1 came up and said she was going to eat something with less carbs in it than corn on the cob so she could lose weight. I said I didn't think the corn had many carbs if you didn't add the butter. She replied it's what we use to fatten cattle.

Staying strong

I will not roll over and play dead to this economy. I will fight to to endure, to keep what we have. When property taxes or medical bills try to defeat me, I will remain strong. All through the power of the Lord who clothes the flowers and feeds the sparrows. I will not go down without a fight!
